Plugin Democracy
Citizens today, at best, have indirect control over their government and communities. This places citizens out of the decisions and control that direct their communities. In 2016, The Economist Intelligence Unit downgraded the United States from a “full democracy” to a “flawed democracy” in its Democracy Report, an annual study of the “state of democracy” around the world.
Plugin Democracy is an application that allows communities to operate as Direct Democracies. It open-sources society. It provides transparent accounting of the community's resources and the ability to democratically override any decision made by a governor. Do you want to propose improvements to a local park? You can do so through the platform. You can also request the funds and volunteer help to do it. Do you want to help improve the educational system? Provide ideas for transportation in your community. New laws? You can actively impact the world you live in.
Plugin Democracy is a platform that:
- Enables communities to operate as direct democracies
- Provides transparent access to the community's accounting
- Allows citizens to band together and collaborate
Plugin Democracy serves citizens of small communities in the United States who seek a more direct, transparent, and inclusive way to participate in local governance. These individuals, from diverse backgrounds and socioeconomic statuses, are currently underserved due to the limitations of representative democracy, which often results in a lack of transparency, accountability, and citizen input.
Our solution addresses these challenges by empowering citizens to take an active role in their communities, fostering a sense of ownership and civic engagement. The platform enables community members to:
Participate in direct democracy: Citizens can propose, discuss, and vote on local issues, ensuring that decisions are made by those most affected. This promotes inclusive decision-making, considering diverse perspectives and needs.
Access transparent financial information: The platform provides an open view of community accounting and budget allocation, allowing citizens to see how resources are managed and hold leaders accountable for public funds.
Collaborate and support each other: Plugin Democracy connects individuals with shared interests and goals, facilitating collaboration on projects, volunteer opportunities, and resource pooling, fostering a strong sense of community and mutual support.
By initially targeting small communities, we aim to build a solid foundation for Plugin Democracy, refining the platform and addressing any challenges that arise before expanding to larger towns, counties, and eventually states. Our goal is to create a scalable solution that can be adapted to different levels of governance, potentially even reaching the federal level in the future.
The impact of Plugin Democracy on the lives of its users will be significant. Citizens will gain a sense of empowerment, knowing their voices are heard and that they can directly contribute to their communities' betterment. Increased transparency and accountability will help build trust between citizens and their leaders, leading to more effective and responsive governance. Ultimately, Plugin Democracy aims to strengthen democracy by encouraging active citizenship, promoting transparency, and fostering collaboration among community members.

Successfully bringing Plugin Democracy to market requires legal help because communities are not legally set up to operate as Direct Democracies. However, I believe this can be changed by adding a single law to localities.
For me, this is a great opportunity to network and get the idea out there and make people aware of it.
In the technical area, it would be great to be able to connect with people with experience that could help move the database to a blockchain.
