SpeakUp NG
The provision of public services in less-developed countries is rife with corruption problems. On the 2020 Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) score, Sub-Saharan African countries average a score of 32, whereas the 10 least corrupt countries in the world averaged about 66. Corruption at the local level is particularly problematic and directly harms the masses.
The 2020 Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) reveals that most countries are showing little or no improvement in tackling corruption, with a decline in Nigeria's score at 25 compared to the previous year.
There is a clear link between citizen voice, transparency, and accountability, so SpeakUp is building a platform to address this problem.
Our solution SpeakUp is a decentralized online engagement platform(web/mobile/SMS) that collects real-time citizen feedback about public services to improve the accountability and transparency of government institutions.
SpeakUp provides citizens a way to give meaningful feedback to improve public services; and present this feedback effectively to local offices and headquarters. By picking up what citizens value and recommend month after month, they make incremental improvements to their service quality.
SpeakUp is developing user-friendly data collection tools that allow all citizens to give anonymous, quick, and reliable feedback about their experience at public offices. We currently collect most of the citizen feedback through a USSD code that citizens can dial from any place of their convenience to give feedback as well as lean customer satisfaction surveys.
After the data is gathered, it is presented in digestible and customized citizen feedback reports that allow the lowest-ranked public servants to understand how they are performing. Finally, our data-to-action strategies provide different incentives to public offices to improve their services, while sharing results at different decision-making levels, including local offices, headquarters, and Ministries.
Our target customers include local governments, to national governments and parliaments, marginalized groups, entrepreneurs, and youths.
The solution will impact their lives by enabling transparency and accountability across several tiers of government thereby fostering change and economic development.
My team is qualified to design and deliver the project because we have a track record of delivering innovative projects.
We've gathered a lot of data from our target market, and so far, their response has been positive with some areas of improvement.

I'm applying to MIT Solve Programme because I think the program will bring me into the presence of industry experts that I, as a growing entrepreneur can learn. I want to share our ideas for the future of SpeakUp NG with the experts and receive feedback and grow from the feedback received. We want to learn the best way to take SpeakUp Ng from where it is to where we want it to be: which is to become the number one citizen engagement and reporting platform in Africa.
Also, I believe I have a wealth of knowledge to share with others at the
program.
