Being an African, we have seen the strengths and weaknesses in typical African countries. As a child, I was recognised as gifted and talented by the Federal government and given the best education on scholarship. But consequently, left to my own devices, I started under performing. An eager learner can become mediocre without the right motivation, finances and support.
I became a volunteer tutor in 2004 because I saw how big an influence a great teacher, creativity and a support system can have on a learner's performance. In addition to teaching Mathematics, I taught phonics to primary school students in disadvantaged communities. I have seen first the necessity for education in Mathematics, Reading and and financial literacy.
My colleague and co-Director grew up in lower income areas of Lagos, Nigeria before eventually studying for an MSc in Computer science in the United Kingdom. Our combined experience and networks in Nigeria has enable us do training content creation with institutions like the Nile University in Abuja, Nigeria. There is still a lot of potential to accomplish impactful projects on the continent and with Africans all around the world.
