MyBasura Tracked and Recycled
The market for waste management and recycling services is growing rapidly, with an increasing number of households, schools, and businesses looking for eco-friendly solutions to reduce their environmental carbon footprint. According to a report, the global waste management market is expected to reach $530 billion by 2025.
FACTS :
-Philippines is fourth in 2022 garbage disposal polluter in Southeast Asia and world top ocean dumper. In 2020 study, approximately 2.7 M of metric tons of plastics collected every year. However, based on 2022 data from 2022 to 2025 it is estimated Philippines will generate a total waste of 92M tons in total. The huge difference in tons is partly due to the increase in healthcare waste and having a high garbage collection rate in Southeast Asia is an indicator of how plastics are over-used and improperly disposed of. (EMB)
-In 2020 World Wildlife Fund reported that 35% of Philippine plastic waste goes to the environment and 33 % were collected and disposed to the landfills and that less than 10% were being recycled. IN 2018 report showed that 74% of plastic collected ends up in ocean.
-In another study only 40 to 85% of wastes are being collected depending on the Local Government Units implementing programs. The remaining percentage are disposed of improperly. In Metro Manila 85 % are being collected but in other cities and municipalities especially the provincial areas as low as 40% is the collection rate and again only less than 10% are being recycled.
COMMUNITY PRACTICES :
Filipinos are noted to be resilient but lack awareness and understanding of the effects of improper waste disposal. Local Government Units may have implemented programs in compliance to RA 9003, otherwise known as the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000 but still have been found to be ineffective.
The lack of discipline and awareness of one’s carbon footprint to the environment has to be addressed. The single used plastics and the home consumable products in sachets are one of the factors.
PERSONAL EXPERIENCE :
Decluttering our belongings end of March 2023 as we need to transfer to another condominium, we realized we have accumulated 4 large size garbage bags containing microwavable food plastics over the last 2 years alone. As a mother I maybe a hoarder as I intend to have them reused but at this point its no longer necessary to have them brought to our new residence. And so, I sourced for a recycling facility in our area as there are other items need to be disposed of. I realized looking for a recycling facility that truly process the items in our area is a challenge.
With my personal experience we realized there's a huge gap between the national laws on Ecological Solid Waste Management and the policies of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources towards the implementing agencies which is the Local Government Unit in reaching out as to the disposals of the public-the households and establishments in particular.

MyBasura is the first online booking platform for waste and garbage in the Philippines. The manner community garbage collection is being done is still traditional. There maybe several collecting contractors, segregation and recycling facilities in the area but most of them are in contract with the local government units. Most often there's a downside when the waste materials go through a long process. But with MyBasura, our platform has the potential to make a significant impact on the environment while providing a convenient and efficient service to our users; households and business establishments alike.
MyBasura introduces a system that is accessible from the household or the pickup point and the Accredited Waste Collectors to the Material Recycling Facilities.
This year we expect to increase the country's recycling rate from less than 10% to 40% at least depending on how we run our school to school campaigns plus the CSR's for business establishments and corporates.
Targeting to reach population of the following areas this year:
