Teens Facilitating Real-Life-Skills Adventure for Tweens
The specific problem we are addressing within the Learning for Civic Action Challenge is the lack of accessible and engaging opportunities for tweens (ages 8-12) to develop essential real-life skills, which encompass social-emotional learning (SEL), and a scalable approach that empowers teens as facilitators and role models. Globally, millions of young people, particularly those in underserved communities, lack access to high-quality education and skill-building experiences that foster critical thinking, communication, and collaboration. Studies have shown that early exposure to SEL leads to increased civic participation (Flanagan & Levine, 2010).
Our solution, the Fulfillment Source Code (FSC), addresses these challenges by providing an innovative educational program that equips both teens and tweens with the real-life skills they need to thrive in the 21st century and engage in effective civic action in their communities. A crucial component of the FSC's approach is empowering passionate teens with basic facilitation skills, enabling them to serve as assistant facilitators for tweens. This peer-to-peer model not only enhances the learning experience for tweens but also offers valuable leadership opportunities for teens, who develop their own real-life skills through teaching using the Feynman technique.
By training and supporting teens as facilitators, our solution fosters a sustainable, scalable, and community-driven model for both real-life skills and civic education. This approach has the potential to reach a large number of young people, bridging the gap in civic education and helping to create a generation of empowered, engaged, and socially responsible citizens.
In summary, the problem we aim to solve is the lack of accessible, engaging, and effective educational opportunities for teens and tweens, especially in underserved communities. Our solution addresses this issue by providing an innovative program that develops essential real-life skills and civic knowledge in both teens and tweens, while simultaneously empowering teens as facilitators and role models. By harnessing the power of peer-to-peer learning, utilizing the Feynman technique, and focusing on the unique needs and strengths of each community, the FSC has the potential to drive lasting, transformational impact for millions of young people around the world.

Our solution, the FSC's Real-Life Skills Adventure, is an innovative brain-based educational program designed to empower tweens (ages 8-12) and teens (ages 13-18) with essential real-life skills that foster civic engagement and personal growth. The FSC program combines technology with a community-driven approach, leveraging the power of peer-to-peer learning and mentoring to make a lasting impact on young people's lives.
The FSC program consists of two main components:
1. Real-Life Skills Adventures: These are highly engaging, effective, and easy-to-deliver brain-based, learning experiences for tweens that focus on developing essential real-life skills such as self-awareness, critical thinking, collaboration, communication, problem-solving, and interpersonal dynamics. The program is based on evidence from multiple disciplines, including neurology, biology, psychology, nutrition, and genetics.
The course content is already parent-teacher and student-approved, but don't take our word for it (https://bit.ly/Kids_say_it_best).
The Adventure Format provides an engaging and interactive structure for learning, which is structurally similar to games like Dungeons and Dragons. Whereby 95% of the work is complete, with the remaining 5% to be customized by local facilitators to ensure it resonates with the participants.
The course is very easy to onboard and deliver effectively. Each adventure integrates technology, making the content accessible and adaptable to various learning styles and contexts.
2. Teen Facilitator Training: This component was designed to empower passionate teens who wish to help facilitate the Real-Life Skills Adventures for their younger peers. Through a combination of online training modules, mentorship, and supervised practice, teens learn the principles of effective facilitation and gain valuable leadership experience. This not only enhances the learning experience for tweens but also allows teens to deepen their understanding of real-life skills through the Feynman Technique, which is learning by teaching.
The FSC program utilizes technology to connect learners, facilitators, and mentors, creating a supportive and collaborative online community. The program incorporates a variety of digital tools, such as video conferencing, online forums, and interactive multimedia content, to ensure that learning is engaging and accessible for all participants. Additionally, the program's digital platform allows for easy implementation that can be delivered in a variety of environments as well as tracking of progress, feedback, and communication between learners, facilitators, and mentors.
The FSC program is an innovative solution that combines a brain-based learning adventure with a community-driven approach to equip tweens and teens with essential real-life skills, fostering civic engagement and personal growth. By leveraging the power of technology, peer-to-peer learning and mentoring, the FSC program has the potential to create a lasting, transformational impact on the lives of young people, particularly those in underserved communities.
Our solution primarily serves tweens (ages 8-12) and teens (ages 13-18), with a particular focus on those from underserved and marginalized communities. These young people often lack access to high-quality education and skill-building opportunities that foster personal growth, critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and civic engagement. They may face socioeconomic, cultural, or geographic barriers that limit their ability to participate in traditional educational programs, leaving them with fewer opportunities to develop essential real-life skills.
The FSC program directly addresses the needs of these young people by providing an accessible, engaging, and community-driven educational experience that equips them with essential real-life skills and fosters civic engagement. Through the Real-Life Skills Adventures, tweens acquire vital competencies that not only help them succeed academically and socially but also enable them to become active participants in their communities. By connecting learning to their lived experiences, the adventures make the content relevant and meaningful, increasing the likelihood of long-term impact on their lives.
In addition to benefiting tweens, our solution also empowers teens by providing them with valuable leadership and facilitation skills through the Teen Facilitator Training component. This unique opportunity allows teens to deepen their understanding of real-life skills, enhance their self-confidence, and gain practical experience in a leadership role. As assistant facilitators, they serve as role models for tweens, inspiring them to take an active role in their own learning and development.
The FSC program's focus on peer-to-peer learning and mentoring creates a supportive and collaborative environment in which both tweens and teens can thrive. By fostering a sense of belonging and mutual support, the program helps to build strong relationships among participants, contributing to a positive impact on their mental and emotional well-being.
Our solution serves tweens and teens from underserved and marginalized communities by providing them with an innovative and accessible educational program that develops essential real-life skills and civic engagement. By empowering teens as facilitators and leveraging the power of peer-to-peer learning, the FSC program has the potential to make a lasting, meaningful difference in the lives of young people, helping them to thrive academically, socially, and as active members of their communities.

At the core of our mission is the belief that every child, regardless of their background, deserves access to and would benefit from growing up with the science-backed, evidence-based fundamental WHYs all humans have and the real-life skills they need to thrive.
From the very beginning, designing a program that applies to and resonates with children from around the world was our first challenge. Our belief is that all children are ‘Unique Humans’ and through the real-life skills adventure + the adventure format we have found an innovative way to balance the human part with the unique part.
We are dedicated to ensuring diversity, equity, and inclusivity are “baked into” our program and have been since day one. We demonstrate this in the following ways:
Diverse Leadership and Team: We recognize the importance of having a diverse team to ensure that our program is culturally sensitive and relevant to a wide range of communities. Our leadership and team members come from diverse backgrounds culturally, geographically, and in education, gaming, psychology, and community development, which helps us create a more complete and comprehensive solution.
Content Review: We have consulted with top professors from various fields to gather content that reflects the diverse needs and perspectives of our target audience. To ensure the inclusivity of our content, we have sought the expertise of multiple DEI organizations to review and provide feedback on our materials, leading to the development of our groundbreaking adventure format.
Flexibility and Local Adaptation: We understand that no single person or program can connect with all kids everywhere. That's why we have designed our FSC program to be both scalable and adaptable, with 95% of the work being done, leaving the best part for local facilitators to be flexible and adapt the program to their specific community's needs and strengths. This approach enables us to work in cooperation with local facilitators, ensuring that delivery of the FSC program is contextually relevant and inclusive.
Ongoing Commitment to DEI: We are continuously learning and striving to improve our approach to diversity, equity, and inclusion. This includes regularly assessing our internal practices, soliciting feedback from the communities we serve, and actively seeking ways to make our program more accessible and relevant to a broader range of young people.
By prioritizing empowering children from all backgrounds and walks of life with the essential real-life skills they need to lead fulfilling lives, diversity, equity, and inclusivity is embedded in every aspect of our work. And through our dedication to what the children need, we hope to foster a more equitable and inclusive world for future generations.
