Decentralized NFTs for Girl child Digital Education
We are solving the issue of the neglect of Girl child participation in education in Nigeria, as seen with issues of a larger population of out of school children ,digital exclusion in her education development and gender in-equality.
The Nigerian Bureau of statistics in 2021 has reported a huge gap in the literacy index in Nigeria as ''57.8 million children are of school- going age (6–15 years old), with 28.7% of all school-aged children whose data are included in the survey are not attending school. This issue is tightly linked to multidimensional poverty: where 94% of all out-of-school children are poor.''(see report source: www.nigeriapovertymap.com)
The population of out of school youths and children in Nigeria reported by UNICEF 2022 is currently standing at 20.2 million been the highest in the world (see https://data.unicef.org), with the female share of this population of 10.6 million; which according to UNICEF every 1 out of 5 girls out of school in the world, is a Nigerian.
The underpinning factors projecting this figure also includes the high poverty index, insurgence/banditry, religious apathy for female education, less infrastructural access to digital tools and high illiteracy.
UNICEF Deputy Representative in Nigeria Rushnan Murzata, on her presentation in 2021 as quoted “On digital access in low- and middle-income countries such as Nigeria, more than 50 percent of women are offline, and women are 20 per cent less likely than men to own a smart phone. Digital inclusion and specifically digital literacy are becoming just as crucial to well-being and success as the ability to read and write’’. Murzata also said on her note that, “Over 1.3 million Nigerian adolescent girls are estimated to drop out every year before reaching the last year of lower secondary education’’. This have reflected in the communities with girls exposed to the under listed issues.
- Early marriages from 10 years old in girls especially in Northern Nigeria communities
- Child beggars and street hawkers
- Girls sexual abuses and molestation
- High drop-out rates in girls education
- Child trafficking and girls trafficking
- Girls displaced to IDP camps from insurgency with no education provided
- Poor access to learning
- Teenage pregnancy and high mortality etc.
The on ground assessment of this statistics is prevailing in the communities, with the lack of social help system and the huge burden on NPO/NGOs to serve these communities needs in supporting girls enrollment, providing educational assistance to displaced communities due to insurgency and engaged social engagement for digital inclusion/gender exposures.
Our solution is segmented into three working parts
- First it is to use NFTs, Non-fungible Token ensembles as an adapted tool to bring social, educational and digital awareness to tackle the plight of the girl child education across the several communities in Nigeria in a bid to promoting community interaction and drive support for engagement in girl child education.
(Work-done on this part- We have created an NFT Opensea project in partnership with local NGO-RHGE). Titled: NFT Support Project for Girls Education in West Africa, Nigeria (See/ Corporate Social Responsibility | Elixa Digitals and Enterprise.) This work has drawn support to girls in the community in bringing awareness of the various challenges faced for girls’ education, it has also help to raise funds for NGO in supporting direct school enrollment and digital learning for girls’ students in Kubwa, Nigeria.)
- The second aspect of the solution is in engaging schools across the communities in creating decentralized educational resource that will provide an open access to education resources and also provide digitally Minted curated art/ NFTs work open to students/schools; where schools, NPOs, communities across the different Region of Nigeria/Africa would have free access in enabling girls’ students engagement in digital work, literacy development, females engagement in creative arts science, designs/curative ensembles and also having access to digital STEM/Resources through the platform
This is as a way to decentralized access to educational resource and drive local participation in STEM/STEAM for girls, support digital literacy development, sustain learning to unreached areas, empowering their creative minds of the female population, support their inclusive rights for education and social justice, and support the integration of African traditional cultural art work in schools curriculum by digital educational provision for students engagement in NFT designs and cultural art designs.
(Work-done):
- Students have created their own NFTs as seen in the Opensea project
- NPO- Have been helped in the community to use NFT in engaging the students
- Digital study resource have been developed by Elixa Digitals in work with RHGE and NITDA in driving digital curriculum with the NDLF framework of digital literacy in Nigeria.)
- The third part is to provide physical support by providing teachers/students with cognitive training skills in digital creative arts/STEM/STEAM development, build competence by offering digital competence educational learning and creating opportunities for NGOs/NPOs to promoting local girl enrollment to schools and supporting her digital inclusion
- Work-done on this part - We have supported the training of Teachers in digital literacy, STEM adoption in Kubwa.
- Support Mini computer labs for schools in Kubwa
- Created NFT resource
- Created NITDA NDLF educational resource for digital literacy
- Support MIT scratch use in schools for digital content.
We are now putting these three aspects of our solution to a common work platform, for an integrated solution.
The Decentralized NFT platform in this work is aimed to serve the following
- Underserved communities with no digital resources for learning especially in the Northern Regions of the Country and in the south, would through the ''integrated platform'' have access to digital resource learning, where girls would have access to these resources to learn. Unreached communities, insurgent places with no educational buildings, internally displaced persons settlement which amount to the millions out of school girls, with this platform as integrated would provide centralized open resource in order to decentralized accessibility to multiply communities, for example girls that have no access to class room due to insurgency would have this decentralized learning platform. (Direct beneficiaries would be Girls in IDP and insurgent areas, NGOs/NPOS would also have resources in driving their engagement across the regions).
- Communities/NPOs can use the NFT to campaign the peculiar cases of girl child challenges and also promote support to drive female enrollment, issues of justice and equality to access to education. (This you can see with our Opensea project- NFT Support Project for Girls Education in West Africa, Nigeria. - Collection | OpenSea)
- Students that have no access to schools due to lack of funds can have free access to learning resources and a go to decentralized platform where they can raise for support using their own NFTs.
- Girls in Junior and Secondary Schools, would have access to Digital content creation, tools/STEM Tools and NFT creative tools, curative art which gives them skills to help their economic situation, engaged in continuous education, encourage their digital inclusion and education. (This would be a lift for the MIT scratch, where students can use Scratch to develop their own NFTs, in this way engaged with STEM resource- https://scratch-mit-edu.ezproxyberklee.flo.org/)
- Schools, Teachers and Administrators in the communities would see the impact in having access to creative design tools and digital literacy tool to aid digital learning to students, support students hands-on engagement.
- Support girls to use their arts and designs across the communities as mints on blockchain to voice campaigns for their inclusive education, drive cultural designs for economic empowerment and social justice
- Schools in poorer communities and rural communities can have access to shared digital learning resources through this platform as a way to build an inclusive digital presence to un reached localities.
- Engage schools to deepen curriculum in design arts, digital learning by creative NFT designs which would assist schools in our communities in driving creativity and allowing improvement on the educational curriculum in allow traditional arts to be expressed through digital media that connect local students’ communities to other talent communities.
- It would serve the teachers in the community to have access to digital resources and training to empower their digital competence and STEM practices.
We created the NFT project in Opensea (NFT Support for Girls Education in Sub Sahara Africa- community Support Project) which has helped our partner NGO- Rising Hope Girls Education (RHGE) to test this adoption, which has helped to raise support for girls’ education in her enrollment in schools in Kubwa communities, this we can expand to have greater impact spread across other communities. We have engaged in providing technical support to NGO (RHGE) to provide digital skill competence learning in Kubwa, Byazhin, Dutse, Del- Del, Shere, Gidangolo regions in Bwari Local government areas, where we have supported NPO with technical volunteer services, training resources in actualizing Digital support for Teachers, and Girl’s education across the region.
Our work in community social engagement has driving technical digital solution for an open inclusive digital economy. We have worked in the North Central Region of Nigeria in having direct support to NGOs/NPOs involved in Digital training access, project assistance and also support unserved digital communities. We have worked in partnership with local NGO in supporting the use of digital tools to help schools in their digital experiences and STEM drive as seen in their use of MIT scratch, K-12 tools etc. These experiences positions our team to provide both digital community work and on ground direct technical support in our project.
We have worked with Rising Hope Educational Foundation and their work partners, Team4Tech and National Information Technological Development Agency NITDA in Nigeria to supporting community literacy project of the NDLF framework aimed at achieving 95 percent of Digital literacy for Nigeria by 2030. (The framework combines the UNESCO Digital Framework competence and the EU Digicom 2.0 Framework). We have work technical material in helping NPO realize digital content for Teachers/ student digitally learning). This would form a part of realizing connect resources that would connects our communities in localization of the NDLF.
We have engaged in leadership training in the Commonwealth regions in digital readiness for leadership in communities, this we see the opportunities of our team to creating and adapting solution in driving SDG 4.0, 9, 13, to the most vulnerable in our communities and the also to reach the unreached communities across the regions of Nigeria. (We have certified training of the commonwealth/Intel - Digital readiness for public sector leaders)
Our team is made of different technological experts/consultants in offering digital service to tools development, which includes Blockchain, Digital tech, data managements consultant, digital applications etc. This also makes us to strongly support digital service offerings to our communities and engage in technical set of application for social deployment services.
- Provide access to improved civic action learning in a wide range of contexts: with educator support for classroom-based approaches, and community-building opportunities for out of school, community-based approaches.
- Nigeria
- Growth: An organization with an established product, service, or business model that is rolled out in one or more communities
- We want to decentralized learning tools and digital learning education in producing arts design, STEM, STEAM resources. To have a decentralized resource to allow for learning, creative designs, create awareness and also engage stakeholder in the communities and schools to engage in digital learning. We seek collaboration with organization and MIT solvers that can provide ED tech tools , provide Creative design tools/template and other resource which students can have access to learning digitally in STEM, STEAM.
- (For example, the MIT scratch tool, can be used to support this process in allowing the students in using scratch to engaged and create NFTs of their own digitally, this would also be a way to integrate traditional art to include digital work, thereby exposing the students to coding in Scratch/STEM resources, which can spur them to produce their own digital contents right from the schools which can be put on blockchain in connecting with broader communities)
- We are seeking the MIT solver community to allow platform community integration as in Discord channels, which would allow the community to champion the Girls education neglect issues of out of schools, provide decentralize way to publicize these issues and engage with the communities of references. This we see as an opportunity to drive communities in Africa to have access to show the challenges and the solutions available globally.
- We seek collaborators who can share tools, expertise, equipment to drive digital literacy to unserved communities; which is seen in our communities as exclusive for the rich and the privileged ones.
- Public Relations (e.g. branding/marketing strategy, social and global media)
- Technology (e.g. software or hardware, web development/design)
The use of NFTs in Digital ensembles and educational asset NFTS, shows an innovative way in advancing social good and in promoting campaigns for female education in African communities. The deployment of NFT would connect communities that are unreached to Global platform in creating awareness of both off chain and on chain communities to the issues of the girl child education as adapted in our solution. This is a innovative step to broaden the sphere of traditional process that allows for digital representation of local communities to promoting civic issues of girl child education in Nigeria and African at large. Our work in Opensea has seen us promote girl’s enrollment in communities with NFTs, which has brought support to local schools which couldn't had the access both in awareness and support funds. This has broadened the interactive space of showcasing the impact of the girl child educational challenges from the traditional process, which provides a holistic way to canvasses the connecting issues as it affects the different regions.
It provides a strong opportunity for students, Educators, NGOs and social administrators to connect communities that have no access to digital resource to now having a decentralized educational NFT resources, digitized curriculum and Open resource access (Educational assets- would now be decentralized as assets NFTs). Which would be beneficial in reaching the population in the communities with free asset digital resource for use. This would mean in simple terms that communities in insurgent part of the country where you have no access, NFT resource would serve them and support their common digital economy.
It gives an innovative process to engage students and Educators in creative art digital designs, which would enrich local traditional cultural studies in finding practical expressions in schools, in using it to engage the students in digital use ( for example using MIT scratch for digital art work), content creation, curations, imaginative arts which would further deepen their digital engagement. This would spur digital drive and also engage them with resource learning in STEM, STEAM as part of the NFT portfolio asset for Learning.
This decentralization of the digital space also means an open inclusion, participation and engagement of others in this space to engage in civic support for girl child education with digitized resource, it will drive engagement of NPO in using NFT to campaign for Girl’s education and also allow organizations to partner on resource sharing in STEM/STEAM to different schools. It would support a decentralize traditional education resource learning tools, it would be a way to engage teachers with digital learning resources for improving curriculum in digital learning and literacy, schools can create their own projects. It would impact the market as educational assets would become digitized assets assigned to a blockchain for ownership rights and users can access the resources as provided.
Our impact goal in the next year is to synergize all the work part of this solution on the Blockchain based web 3.0 protocol.
- Creating the project in more Blockchain protocols, and integrating them for active collaboration
- Directly supporting girls’ enrollment in school through this process in a decentralized access where a ward can receive support for school in a way that would not be too difficult with current traditional process.
- Develop more STEM/Digital resources and drive local communities to a more digitally interactive communities that would affect the population of girls digital inclusion in this project
- Support NGOs/NPOs technically on Blockchain adoption use NFT for campaign on girl child education
The projection for 5 years would see a regional interface with more communities, ministries and institutions, which would link many communities in achieving
- A broader support for out of school girls projected to meet 500,000 and more in enrollment.
- See Schools/students creating impact NFT project designs and drawing qualitative expressions from their designs, see students and educators design practical digitized projects.
- Engage 200 – 300 schools across communities with digital STEM, STEAM and Digital arts resources with a population target of 200,000 to 500,000. Engaging a larger population of practicing STEM teachers raised in the project.
- 4. Quality Education
- 5. Gender Equality
- 8. Decent Work and Economic Growth
- 9. Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure
- 10. Reduced Inequalities
- 11. Sustainable Cities and Communities
- 17. Partnerships for the Goals
The Impact of this work would be measured with both National and Global indicator.
The National Indicator would align with NITDA NDLF goal of achieving 95 percent digital literate population in Nigeria by 2030.
The Digital resource content in this project would be measured on the number of teachers/students that have digital impact through our offering both in terms of training documents, participating in our workshop/training in the different regions of our served communities.
The Global UN indicator 4.1.1/4.1.2, would provide a global measuring index for girls in grade 2/3 and lower secondary school of the opportunity with STEM/STEAM access through this project, which would support the cause of using technology/digital offerings in supporting sustained educational completion in our communities and drive digital engagement to unserved communities/schools.
See Indicator description below
(4.1.1
Proportion of children and young people (a) in grades 2/3; (b) at the end of primary; and (c) at the end of lower secondary achieving at least a minimum proficiency level in (i) reading and (ii) mathematics, by sex
4.1.2
Completion rate (primary education, lower secondary education, upper secondary education)
The project which is working on girl child education as our primary target group, uses the NFT produces by students to draw campaign for female equality for education, sexual violence, abuses and rights. It would serve as an Innovative process for NPO to campaign across communities of the different issues of girls gender equality issues, connect with stakeholders of the schools and the public with NFT . This would also drive for public support to help in girls enrollment in schools and drive her engagement across the communities.
This would be measured with indicators of the UN 5.1.1,5.2.1, 5.2.2, 5.3.1, 5.3.2. As described below:
5.1.1
Whether or not legal frameworks are in place to promote, enforce and monitor equality and non‑discrimination on the basis of sex
5.2.1
Proportion of ever-partnered women and girls aged 15 years and older subjected to physical, sexual or psychological violence by a current or former intimate partner in the previous 12 months, by form of violence and by age
5.2.2
Proportion of women and girls aged 15 years and older subjected to sexual violence by persons other than an intimate partner in the previous 12 months, by age and place of occurrence
5.3.1
Proportion of women aged 20-24 years who were married or in a union before age 15 and before age 18
5.3.2
Proportion of girls and women aged 15-49 years who have undergone female genital mutilation/cutting, by age
Finally, our monitoring and evaluation of the project would follow the use of
Project assessment report
Survey report
Monitoring and Evaluation reports
Annual report
Performance project report These reports would all be used to show the Impact drive of the solution in meeting the local goals / Global indicators indexes of the solution as described
The use of directive cognitive training in digital technology has proved effective to reach to un learned digital communities as describe in the article of ‘’: Saarinen, A., Lipsanen, J., Hintsanen, M, Huotilainen, M.& Keltikangas-Järvinen, L. (2021). The Use of Digital Technologies at School and Cognitive Learning Outcomes: A Population-Based Study in Finland International Journal of Educational Psychology, 10(1), 1-26. https://doi-org.ezproxyberklee.flo.org/10.17583/ijep.2021.4667’’
Using adaptive innovative process and cognitive NFT digital learning assets in the digital process can be a way to produce cognitive change that is adapted to suite the problems of our communities.
we supported the digital learning of 52 teachers in Kubwa Nigeria with cognitive digital resources, the results were positive as they were able to adapt to tools in helping them develop digital learning, support their literacy. Having this project where teachers and students in different communities would be exposed to cognitive resources in digital blockchain, it would serve to help un learn communities to build digital capacity.
The use of Digital Technology can produce cognitive outcomes for students’ digital education drive in NFTs, Creative designs, and STEM guides.
Block chain and Web 3.0 technologies, where decentralized asset Non fungible tokens NFTS is stored on blockchain in providing access solution to third parties without a centralized medium. We use this technology as a way to creating educational assets on chain, which would de-bottle traditional method to offer educational assets to local communities and provide an innovative way to solving traditional problems of girl’s education in Africa/Nigeria. NFT technology would be the conveyor belt to indulge the female population in communities and schools in driving digital inclusion, drive learning, improve on their education curricula and drive campaign support for their issues in terms of promoting girl education and gender equality right for her education. It would connect classrooms digital work to digital communities there by creating a common digital interface for all. It would help NGOs, Educators to drive off-chain and on chain support for girl education in Nigeria, which is an added advantage as a step up from the traditional process.
