Kelas by Pengajar Belajar
According to the Ministry of Communication and Informatics in Indonesia, by 2030, the country will require 113 million individuals with digital skills. Unfortunately, it is predicted that only around 104 million people will possess the talents required by that time, leaving a deficit of about 9 million digital experts, both in terms of quantity and quality.
To address this challenge, Pengajar Belajar has developed an innovative solution to provide teachers with industry-focused STEM knowledge and equip them with modern classroom technologies. Our organization has already made a significant impact, having reached 32 provinces in Indonesia and over 16,000 community members, with an impressive 245 hours of workshops completed to date.
Our major initiatives have enabled teachers to make the transition to online learning environments and develop curricula that align with the needs of the industry. Our interesting classes will further support teachers in adopting modern online teaching methods.
Moving forward, our goal is to spread KELAS throughout the country, including in rural areas, to ensure that all teachers have access to this innovative platform. We believe that this will have a significant impact on the ability of Indonesian students to become the quality engineers that our country needs by 2030.
KELAS by Pengajar Belajar is a platform that aims to bridge the gap between teachers and the ever-changing IT sector by providing them with free and readily available IT lesson resources. This low-tech platform offers instructors with ready-made content that can be utilized in their classroom right away. By assisting teachers in upskilling, KELAS ultimately benefits the students who are able to develop the necessary skills to become top applicants for future employment.
In addition to offering free resources, KELAS also provides support and training to teachers who are looking to improve their IT skills. Through workshops and webinars, instructors can learn about the latest trends and developments in the IT industry and gain valuable insights into how to incorporate these trends into their teaching methods. With KELAS, teachers can stay informed and up-to-date with the latest technologies, ensuring that their students receive the best education possible.
KELAS is a low-tech portal that offers free, ready-to-use resources to Indonesian high school and vocational high school instructors. All curricula have been authorized by industry professionals and are in accordance with national regulations for their particular majors. With KELAS, teachers can be confident that they are providing their students with the most relevant and up-to-date information, preparing them for success in their future careers.
At Pengajar Belajar, we strongly believe that teachers are the foundation of high-quality education. We understand that teachers need to be equipped with the latest industry-relevant skills and technology to support the modern classroom. Our aim is to provide teachers in Indonesia with the necessary resources to help them provide a better learning experience for students.
Our organization is committed to addressing the significant challenge of poor knowledge of information technology among 60% of Indonesian instructors. We recognize that this is particularly difficult in rural regions where resources are limited. To overcome this challenge, we have implemented a comprehensive training program to educate teachers on how to effectively use technology in the classroom. The program covers a wide range of topics, including the use of laptops, tablets, and educational software.
In addition to the training program, we are also working to increase access to industry-relevant curricula to ensure that students receive the best possible education. We believe that by providing teachers with up-to-date resources and training, they can make a significant impact in the lives of their students. We are dedicated to supporting teachers in Indonesia and believe that education is critical to the development of any nation.
With our ongoing efforts, we are confident that we can help teachers become better equipped to provide students with the education they deserve. We believe that this will ultimately have a positive impact on the nation as a whole, as educated individuals are better equipped to contribute to society and drive economic growth.
Our leadership team has held numerous managerial and technical roles at various Indonesian unicorn tech firms. We have a wealth of experience working with agile methodologies while still maintaining a high degree of innovation. Our CEO, who holds a degree in Social Entrepreneurship from the London School of Economics, is a key member of our team, providing valuable assistance with effect evaluation.
We are also proud to have Tania as our CPO and Team Lead for Pengajar Belajar. Recently, she earned a Master's Degree in Education from Harvard Graduate School of Education, which has given her a deeper understanding of teaching pedagogy. Her expertise and insights will be invaluable as we continue to develop our platform and bring innovative educational tools to Indonesia.
To ensure that we are always delivering high-quality content, we have our own curriculum creation team. This talented group of instructors is responsible for developing and refining our curriculum, ensuring that it is always in line with current and future demands. We also tap into a diverse range of professionals and industry partners to assist us in this effort, ensuring that our curriculum is always up to date and relevant.
But our team is not just made up of instructors and curriculum experts. We also have a talented marketing staff, consisting of individuals with backgrounds in graphic design, marketing, and branding. They are responsible for creating effective methods to promote and entice instructors to utilize our platform, while also building relationships within our Pengajar Belajar community.
Finally, we have an event management staff that is responsible for creating and administering all workshops, bootcamps, and projects to promote our KELAS platform or other companies. With an average background of experienced and skilled event planners, our Event Operations team ensures that every event is a success and that attendees come away with valuable insights and skills.

Apart from the financing that would help our organization grow, we believe that becoming a member of the MIT Solve community would be highly beneficial. With the help and guidance of the MIT community, we are confident that we can expand our impact not only in Indonesia but also beyond its borders. Winning the Solve award last year was a major milestone for us, and it provided us with invaluable opportunities to grow and develop as an organization.
We are particularly inspired by the innovative mindset that characterizes the firms and organizations associated with MIT Solve. Our goal is to learn from our colleagues and mentors during this challenge and to refine our approach to addressing Indonesia's education crisis. We believe that the resources and support provided by MIT Solve will be instrumental in helping us achieve our mission and make a difference in the lives of students across Indonesia.
As we are building our organization, we are facing some challenges that we want to overcome in order to achieve our goals. These challenges include improving our product, managing our finances, and finding the right market entry strategy.
To address these challenges, we believe that we can benefit from MIT Solve's expertise and networks. Specifically, we hope that MIT Solve can connect us with like-minded organizations that share our vision and can help us to build a more effective and accessible platform for teachers. We also hope to receive guidance from MIT Solve on how to approach our market entry strategy, especially through interactive engagement on social media. By leveraging the power of social media, we believe that we can reach out to teachers all across Indonesia and spread awareness about our KELAS platform.
In addition, we are also exploring other strategies to overcome our challenges. For example, we are looking into ways to improve our product by incorporating more features and functionalities that can better serve our users' needs. We are also exploring different funding sources and investment opportunities to ensure the financial sustainability of our organization. Ultimately, we are committed to overcoming these challenges and achieving our vision of providing quality education to all teachers in Indonesia.
- Business Model (e.g. product-market fit, strategy & development)
- Financial (e.g. accounting practices, pitching to investors)

The COVID-19 pandemic has brought about a seismic shift in the field of education across Indonesia, with many teachers struggling to adapt to the new online learning methods. This has triggered potential challenges for students who may face barriers when it comes to becoming "quality engineers" in the future. Furthermore, the students residing in rural regions of the country are facing additional difficulties due to the lack of access to curricula and resources relevant to the industry.
In response to these challenges, our team has worked tirelessly to develop KELAS, a free online platform that aims to provide teachers with the necessary resources to impart industry-relevant knowledge to their students. With KELAS, teachers can now gain access to a wide range of information and teaching materials that can help them better prepare their students, especially in the STEM fields. Instructors from over 8,000 Vocational High Schools that focus on IT can now upskill themselves and gain access to the platform, which will aid in adding an additional 400,000 employable engineers to the workforce each year, thereby driving the country's economic growth.
Our mission is to make quality education accessible to all students in Indonesia, irrespective of their location or financial resources. We firmly believe that by providing teachers with the necessary tools to succeed, we can help bridge the gap between education and industry, and ultimately create a more prosperous future for all Indonesians. Our commitment to our mission is unwavering, and we aim to continue expanding our platform and offerings to reach more students and teachers across the country.
As we continue to work towards achieving our goals, we are looking for ways to make KELAS even more accessible to students and teachers in Indonesia. For instance, we are exploring the possibility of offering government-sponsored programs that can help students and teachers in remote areas gain access to the platform and its resources. We are also working on developing new tools and features that can help teachers better understand their students' needs and tailor their teaching methods accordingly. By doing so, we hope to empower teachers and students alike and create a more robust and dynamic educational ecosystem in Indonesia.
Our education team is currently working on expanding the class offerings for IT-focused degrees, and we have plans to diversify our platform to include other areas of study as well. We believe that education should be accessible to everyone, and that's why one of our top priorities over the next five years is to open-source the curriculum on our platform. By doing so, we hope to encourage collaboration and contribution from both instructors and industry experts, to ensure that the curriculum is always up-to-date and relevant.
Our goal is to provide industry-relevant instructional materials to 160,000 instructors, with a focus on Vocational High Schools and IT education. We aim to bring 400,000 qualified and employable engineers to the workforce each year, in order to meet the demands of the ever-growing tech industry.
To achieve these goals, we are planning to create practical and transferable programs. We will be enriching our workshops and curriculums to be more hands-on and practical, to allow for better transferability to classroom practices. Additionally, we will be hosting offline and hybrid events for community members, to promote engagement and collaboration.
Another important aspect of our plan is to secure partnerships with industry leaders and KOLs. By doing so, we can ensure that our curriculum and programs are relevant to industry needs. Engaging with more industry leaders will also allow us to constantly update our offerings, to stay ahead of the curve and provide the most up-to-date education.
Lastly, we will be exploring more digital channels for engagement. By creating variations of content and using different platforms, we can better facilitate the needs of teachers and students. For example, we may produce Medium articles, podcasts, and videos to reach a wider audience and provide different types of content.

Our organization has developed an impact evaluation methodology to measure the effectiveness of our programs and products on our beneficiaries. This methodology is meticulously implemented in all our programs to ensure the best results. We also measure the MVP Success Metrics for KELAS, which is a great way to determine our progress.
To achieve our objectives, we aim to transform the current Pengajar Belajar curriculums into engaging videos and low-tech exercises that are accessible to all. We are also planning to establish an innovative leaderboard system, which will enable us to track the progress of the students and provide them with real-time feedback. Additionally, we will be implementing a state-of-the-art assessment system that will help us to evaluate the students' performance and identify areas of improvement.
Our ultimate goal is to empower our students with the knowledge and skills they need to succeed in life. We believe that our innovative approach will revolutionize the way education is delivered and will have a significant impact on the lives of many individuals.
Our solution, Kelas, has identified three objectives to improve the education of Indonesia's local tech industry. Objective 1 aims to help SMK IT teachers update their curriculums to meet industry needs. Objective 2 aims to provide teachers throughout Indonesia with useful resources via a scalable, user-friendly platform. Objective 3 aims to add more employable engineers to the local tech industry.
To achieve objective 1, we plan to build offline-friendly lesson materials that require few resources. We will measure our progress by the number of cities reached through Kelas. For objective 2, our target is to create a simple, user-friendly platform that is easy for teachers to use daily in their classrooms. We will measure our progress by the number of teachers reached through Kelas. For objective 3, we aim to ensure curriculums follow national requirements with updated languages and tools. We will measure our progress by the number of students reached through Kelas annually and by the difference in scores of pre-test and post-test.
In the future, we aim to create pathways for students who complete our curriculum to job opportunities in local tech companies. We will measure our success by the percentage of students who receive job opportunities compared to those in the same programs without Kelas.
In January 2020, the Pengajar Belajar team was founded with the goal of boosting STEM education in Indonesia. We believed that by providing free STEM training and tools to Indonesian teachers, we could help enhance the quality of education imparted to their pupils. With this objective in mind, we began developing seminars in both technical and soft skills, which assisted in upskilling IT High School and Vocational High School instructors across Indonesia and guiding them in building better teaching materials for their students.
Our workshops have been conducted by experts in the field and run by our team and operational partners in the form of live (virtual) courses. These synchronous trainings have been a huge success, with over 16,000 teachers having already participated in them. In addition, when necessary, we established a Training of Trainers (ToT) program in which we selected and trained Mentors to teach our curriculums. This program has helped us reach out to more teachers and has enabled us to provide them with valuable skills and knowledge.
To grow our impact and reach out to even more teachers, we decided to establish a platform to give industry-relevant, ready-to-use STEM curriculums to teachers. This platform will make our curriculum more accessible and will help us achieve our goal of adding 400,000 employable engineers to the workforce each year. We are confident that with our efforts, we can help shift the direction of STEM education in Indonesia and create a brighter future for the country's youth.
KELAS is a revolutionary online platform that offers an extensive range of resources to teachers worldwide, which enable them to provide their students with industry-relevant curriculums that are up-to-date with the latest trends in education. Our platform is designed to be accessible to anyone with an internet connection, regardless of their location or access to technology. We have created a low-tech, mobile-friendly web-based platform that can be used even in areas with limited technological resources.
At KELAS, we understand that not everyone has access to high-speed internet, and that's why we have taken steps to reduce bandwidth usage. For example, we have developed an innovative text replacement tool for each video, which allows users to still receive valuable information without requiring a high-speed internet connection. This text replacement tool is a game-changer as it ensures that students who are in areas with limited internet access are not left behind in their learning.
Moreover, in addition to our online resources, we also provide offline activities that supplement the learning experience. These activities are tailor-made to be used in remote locations, so that teachers can provide their students with quality education no matter where they are located. These offline activities are interactive and engaging, which ensures that students remain interested and motivated to learn.
At KELAS, we are committed to providing quality education to everyone, regardless of their location or access to technology. Our resources are designed to be accessible and easy to use, so that all teachers can provide their students with the tools they need to succeed. We believe that education is the key to unlocking an individual's potential, and we are dedicated to bridging the gap between knowledge and accessibility.

Our objective is to provide skills and resources to disadvantaged populations in order to develop a more just and equitable education system for all students in Indonesia while serving as a high quality resource for the teachers that will teach them. One of the ways we strive to achieve this is by conducting extensive research on the needs of the teachers and students in the area to ensure that our programs and resources are tailored to their specific requirements. In addition, we work closely with local communities and organizations to ensure that our efforts are aligned with their goals and objectives.
To achieve our objectives, we ensure that all members of our organization are on the same page and have a thorough understanding of our vision and mission. This includes regular meetings and discussions to determine how to make decisions that will best benefit our beneficiaries. We also encourage open communication and transparency within the organization to ensure that every person's needs and expectations are taken into account.
Each member of our team comes from a different background and has various experiences, which allows us to bring diverse perspectives and ideas to the table. We always make sure that everyone has a distinct function, but we all have the same goal, which is to empower teachers in Indonesia to affect the number of quality talent in the future. We accomplish this by providing training and resources to help teachers improve their teaching methods and stay up-to-date with the latest developments in their field.
Alongside our goals, we are always monitoring to see if we have given our team members the opportunity to grow and expand as individuals. We believe that investing in our team members is crucial to the success of our organization, which is why we provide them with access to various learning and development opportunities. This includes mentorship programs, skills training, and leadership development programs.
In order to ensure that our programs and resources are effective, we keep our flow with the culture code in order to always align our culture in working and in making programs for our beneficiaries. We want to ensure that our team members are always learning in whatever process they are now involved in; we want to provide them with the greatest tools and resources to help them advance in their careers. Our organization has a flat structure with no levels of hierarchy so that everyone feels comfortable, they don't have to fear particular positions, and they can freely contribute their ideas and opinions in the process as long as we all have the same goal of making an effect in the future.
Our non-profit organization is dedicated to providing free, high-quality information and tools to teachers. We are able to do so by partnering with numerous respected industry leaders and enlisting the help of a large network of expert volunteers. Our co-creation strategy has proven successful in the past, allowing us to develop our material for free.
While we have already amassed a community of over 16,000 teachers throughout Indonesia, we are always looking to expand our reach. To accomplish this, we have begun collaborating with schools to offer workshops on our platform. In addition, we are actively promoting our solution via social media, which has proven effective in reaching our target audience.
Looking ahead, we plan to continue building partnerships with industry leaders and expert volunteers in order to create even more high-quality educational material. We also aim to establish more partnerships with schools to offer training sessions and workshops. Furthermore, we will continue to engage with our community through social media and events to raise awareness of our platform and expand our user base. With these efforts, we are confident that we can continue to provide free, high-quality resources to teachers throughout Indonesia and beyond.

We are currently exploring various strategies to receive consistent donations from a larger number of individuals. One of the ways we have attempted to achieve this goal is by registering for several grants and challenges to assist us in financing our platform and organization. In addition to this, we are working on forming partnerships with prominent institutions in Indonesia to assist us in conducting seminars and bootcamps both academically and financially. By forming these partnerships, we hope to expand the reach of our organization and platform.
Our goal for the coming year is to reach out to government sectors and collaborate on both sides to grow our platform and organization. We hope to achieve this by establishing strong partnerships with the government and working together to achieve our shared goals and objectives.
Furthermore, we are also working on partnering with more foundations and philanthropic capital to help us become more financially stable and to have a greater impact on our beneficiaries. We believe that by partnering with these organizations, we can leverage their experience and resources to expand our reach and impact, and create lasting positive change in our communities.
Since its inception, our organization has faced several challenges to ensure financial sustainability, despite receiving funding from several grants and partnerships. As a non-profit organization, we rely solely on funding from external sources, such as Yayasan Anak Bangsa Bisa (Gojek Foundation), Digital Ocean and Caterpillar Foundation, which awarded us the MIT Solve award last year.
To achieve our goal of financial sustainability, we are taking several steps to align our financial strategy with our mission. We are currently in the process of creating a strategic plan that will help us measure our impact and ensure that our financial strategy is in line with our mission. We are also closely monitoring our cash flow to stay on top of costs, while working to diversify our sources of funding.
In our quest for financial sustainability, we are exploring new partnerships and grant opportunities. In addition, we are considering the implementation of social enterprise initiatives that align with our mission and values to generate sustainable revenue streams. We are confident that these measures will help us to achieve our goal of financial sustainability and enable us to continue making a positive impact on the community we serve. We are committed to ensuring that our organization remains financially sustainable so that we can continue to serve the community and make a lasting impact for years to come.
