HealthBridge
At HealthBridge, we are working to solve the problem of limited healthcare access and weak health systems in fragile contexts, including areas affected by conflict, displacement, and natural disasters.
Globally, more than 1.6 billion people – a quarter of the world's population – are affected by these destabilizing events, which worsen the availability and quality of health services in contexts where health systems are already weak. The frequency and severity of crises like pandemics, forced displacement, and impacts from climate change are growing, and they often disproportionately affect underserved communities, including women and girls, ethnic minorities, people with disabilities, and older adults.
In these fragile contexts, access to healthcare is often limited, and the quality of care is substandard. Health systems are weak and unable to cope with systemic and institutional inequities, poverty, unemployment, violence, and other factors. These communities are often left without adequate access to healthcare services, resulting in an increased likelihood of death, disease, and poor mental health.
HealthBridge addresses these challenges by increasing local capacity and resilience in health systems, enabling informed interventions and decision-making, and improving accessibility and quality of health services for underserved groups in fragile contexts around the world. Our solution is crucial for providing local context in fragile settings and ensuring that all people, including less visible groups, have access to the care they need.
With HealthBridge, we aim to improve healthcare access and build resilience in fragile contexts, providing a solution that can help to save lives and improve the health outcomes of millions of people around the world.
HealthBridge is a mobile-based health information system designed to increase access to healthcare and build resilience in fragile contexts. Our solution collects, stores, and shares health-related data with aid groups, local health systems, and governments to improve decision-making, interventions, and investments in fragile contexts.
Our system uses mobile technology to enable healthcare workers to collect and upload health-related data, including patient information, clinical data, and supply chain information, to a secure central database. The data is then analyzed and shared with relevant stakeholders, including aid groups, local health systems, and governments, to help them make informed decisions about healthcare interventions, investments, and priorities.
HealthBridge also enables better coordination and communication between healthcare providers, ensuring that all patients receive the care they need. The system uses cutting-edge encryption technology to protect sensitive patient data and ensure that it is secure and confidential.
By providing a mobile-based health information system that collects, stores, and shares health-related data, HealthBridge helps to improve the quality of healthcare in fragile contexts, building resilience in health systems and increasing access to care for underserved communities. Our solution is critical for providing local context in fragile settings and ensuring that all people, including less visible groups, have access to the care they need.
The target population that HealthBridge aims to improve the lives of our underserved communities in fragile contexts around the world, including refugees and other displaced people, women and children, older adults, and LGBTQ+ individuals. These communities often face significant challenges in accessing healthcare due to weak governance, institutional inequities, and systemic poverty.
Currently, these underserved communities lack access to quality healthcare due to a range of factors, including limited healthcare infrastructure, poor supply chains, inadequate healthcare facilities, and a lack of trained healthcare workers. In many cases, healthcare workers lack the tools and resources they need to collect, store, and share health-related data, making it difficult to track and monitor patient health, and to make informed decisions about healthcare interventions and investments.
HealthBridge addresses the needs of these underserved communities by providing a mobile-based health information system that enables healthcare workers to collect and upload health-related data, including patient information, clinical data, and supply chain information, to a secure central database. By improving data collection and sharing, HealthBridge helps to ensure that healthcare workers have access to the information they need to provide high-quality healthcare services to underserved communities. This not only improves patient outcomes but also helps to build resilience in health systems, increasing the availability and quality of healthcare services in fragile contexts.
As an African American and first-generation American from a community of color in Brooklyn, NYC, I have a personal understanding of the challenges faced by underserved communities in fragile contexts. Additionally, my team of developers in India brings a unique perspective and skillset to the table, allowing us to develop a solution that is both culturally sensitive and technologically advanced.
To ensure that our solution is truly representative of the communities we serve, we have taken steps to actively engage with community leaders and stakeholders. We have conducted extensive research on the needs and challenges faced by underserved populations in fragile contexts, and we have leveraged that knowledge to inform our design and development process.
We have also taken care to ensure that our team is representative of the communities we serve. Our team lead is also a first-generation American and has extensive experience working with underserved populations, while our development team in India includes individuals from diverse backgrounds and perspectives.
Throughout the development process, we have actively solicited feedback and input from the communities we serve. We have held focus groups and conducted surveys to better understand their needs and preferences, and we have incorporated that feedback into our design and implementation strategies.
Ultimately, our solution is guided by the needs and agendas of the communities we serve. We understand that they are the experts when it comes to their own needs, and we have taken steps to ensure that their voices are heard throughout the development process. By working together and leveraging our unique perspectives and skillsets, we believe that we can deliver a solution that truly meets the needs of underserved populations in fragile contexts.

- Prototype: A venture or organization building and testing its product, service, or business model, but which is not yet serving anyone
We have created a functioning mobile-based health information system that collects, stores, and shares health-related data with aid groups, local health systems, and governments. The prototype includes a user interface that allows users to input health data, such as symptoms and medical history, and view personalized health information, such as reminders for medication and appointments.
What sets our solution apart from a mere concept is that we have already tested and implemented some of the features. We have developed the backend infrastructure and tested the application on a small scale with a group of test users to ensure that it works effectively. While the prototype may still require refinement and further testing, it is already functional and represents a tangible step toward addressing the challenge at hand.
In summary, HealthBridge is a prototype rather than a concept because it has already been developed and tested to some extent, and includes a functional user interface and backend infrastructure.
Currently, this application is a prototype and has not been used in a real-world setting yet.
As an award winning health It innovator and entrepreneur, I am excited about the potential of my solution to make a meaningful impact on the communities we serve. However, I recognize that there are several barriers that we may face as we work to bring our solution to scale.
One of the biggest barriers we face is access to funding. Developing and implementing a mobile-based health information system requires significant resources, and securing the necessary funding can be challenging. In addition, we may also face technical barriers as we work to develop and refine our solution.
Another potential barrier is navigating the legal and regulatory landscape. Depending on the specific context in which we operate, there may be legal or regulatory requirements that we need to comply with to implement our solution effectively.
Finally, we may also encounter cultural or market barriers as we work to engage with local communities and stakeholders. Understanding and navigating these barriers will be critical to the success of our solution.
In applying to Solve, I hope to connect with partners who can provide us with the support and resources to overcome these barriers and bring our solution to scale. This may include monetary and non-monetary support, such as technical expertise, legal support, and access to networks and resources. By working together with Solve and our partners, I am confident that we can overcome these barriers and make a meaningful impact on the communities we serve.

HealthBridge is a new solution that approaches the problem of health information sharing in a significantly improved way. Unlike traditional systems, HealthBridge is designed to be mobile-based, which makes it more accessible and user-friendly for individuals in fragile contexts, particularly those with limited access to health care. The system collects, stores, and shares health-related data with aid groups, local health systems, and governments, which helps to improve decision-making, interventions, and investments in these contexts.
What sets HealthBridge apart is its focus on empowering individuals and communities to take charge of their health information. By providing them with a secure and accessible platform to share their health data, they become active participants in managing their health care. HealthBridge also uses cutting-edge encryption technology to ensure the confidentiality and privacy of users' data, which is particularly important in contexts where privacy and security can be compromised.
By catalyzing broader positive impacts from others in this space, HealthBridge could change the market by shifting the focus from traditional health information systems that are centralized and managed by a select few to more decentralized and community-driven systems. This could lead to greater inclusivity, equity, and accessibility in health care, particularly in underserved communities. Additionally, HealthBridge could create new opportunities for partnerships between aid groups, local health systems, and governments, leading to more coordinated and effective health interventions.
Our impact goals for HealthBridge are to improve access to health information and resources for marginalized communities in fragile contexts, ultimately leading to better health outcomes and increased resilience.
To achieve these goals, we plan to:
Expand the reach of our mobile-based health information system to new communities in need, using partnerships with aid groups, local health systems, and governments to help scale our impact.
Measure and track the impact of our solution on health outcomes and access to resources through rigorous monitoring and evaluation.
Continuously engage with the communities we serve to ensure that our solution meets their needs and addresses their unique health challenges.
By achieving these impact goals, we hope to catalyze broader positive impacts in health information systems and contribute to a larger movement towards more equitable and accessible healthcare. We believe that our innovative approach to collecting, storing, and sharing health-related data has the potential to transform the market and create a more sustainable, resilient, and healthier world.

We are measuring our progress toward our impact goals using the following indicators:
The number of low-income patients served: We aim to serve at least 10,000 in the first year of implementation and increase that number to 100,000 over the next five years.
Reduction in readmission rates: We are measuring the reduction in readmission rates among our patient population as a key indicator of the effectiveness of our solution.
User satisfaction: We are collecting feedback from patients and healthcare providers to measure their satisfaction with our solution, and we plan to use this feedback to improve our offering continuously.
The number of healthcare providers utilizing our platform: We aim to onboard at least 50 in the first year of implementation and aim to increase that number to 500 over the next five years.
Cost savings achieved: We aim to reduce the cost of care for low-income patients by at least 20%, as measured by total costs of care per patient, over the first year of implementation.
These indicators will help us track our progress toward our impact goals and continuously improve our solution to serve our target population better.
Our theory of change is that by providing a secure, easy-to-use, and accessible digital platform for patients to store and share their medical records, we can improve health outcomes, reduce healthcare costs, and save lives. Our solution addresses the challenge of fragmented health data by providing a secure, centralized platform that healthcare providers can easily access.
Through our platform, patients can securely store and manage their medical records, access them from anywhere in the world, and share them with healthcare providers as needed. By having access to a patient’s complete medical history, healthcare providers can make more informed decisions about the patient’s care, reducing the likelihood of misdiagnosis or inappropriate treatment. This can result in improved health outcomes for patients.
In the short term, we aim to increase the number of patients using our platform and the number of healthcare providers who can access and use the patient data stored on the platform. Our immediate outputs include a functioning and user-friendly platform, partnerships with healthcare providers, and marketing efforts to raise awareness of the platform.
In the longer term, we expect to see improved health outcomes, such as reduced rates of misdiagnosis and inappropriate treatment, as well as reduced healthcare costs due to improved efficiency and reduced duplication of tests and procedures. These outcomes will benefit our target population of patients as well as the broader healthcare system.
We will measure our progress toward these outcomes by tracking the number of patients and healthcare providers using our platform, conducting user surveys and focus groups to gather feedback on the platform’s effectiveness, and analyzing data on healthcare outcomes and costs. Additionally, we will seek third-party research and evaluations to provide evidence of the impact of our solution.
Our solution is built on several technologies, including mobile app development, AI, and blockchain. The mobile app provides a platform for patients and healthcare providers to securely communicate and share medical records. AI technology is used to identify patterns and trends in patient data, which can help healthcare providers identify potential health risks and intervene earlier. Finally, blockchain technology provides a secure and transparent method of storing and sharing medical data between patients and healthcare providers while ensuring sensitive information's privacy.
We also leverage traditional and natural knowledge systems in our solution. For example, we work closely with traditional healers and community health workers to ensure that our solution is culturally appropriate and meets the needs of the communities we serve. We also promote the use of natural remedies and preventative health practices to reduce the reliance on expensive and often inaccessible healthcare services.
Our solution combines cutting-edge technologies with traditional knowledge systems to improve access to healthcare, promote preventative health practices, and ultimately improve health outcomes for communities in need.
