Instadoc (doctor on the go)
The problems we are solving are:
- Poor access to health care due to high attrition rate of health care workers
- Prolonged waiting time in health care facilities
- Overwhelming workload on the available health care workers
- Further marginalisation of underserved population
With the increase in growth annually across the globe and specifically in Nigeria, queues are increasing daily in hospitals, with everyone desiring attention for one ailment or the other. People spend hours waiting to see a doctor and often because there are long queues, some of these doctors cannot afford to spend time to attend to their patients. This does not allow people to go the hospital and in some cases even when they go, they leave unsatisfied or without being able to wait. It has in some situations caused loss and in others, leaving people wary of the medical system. Some have gone to quacks and others end up self-medicating which leads to further issues.
Our solution is:
- An online app that enables people have their consultations with healthcare practitioners from the comfort of their location (through their devices without having to go to a hospital)
- The service runs on 3 different packages: chat, phone call and video call (for an appointment)
- With the app, clients can book their appointments with a medical personnel at any time of the day
- The app ensures a sense of privacy as there is only the client and the healthcare practitioner on the call. Patient-provider confidentiality is maintained
- It is a web-based application that can be accessed either on one’s mobile or through a web browser.
- In locations with poor Internet connectivity, clients can dial in.
More people would rather go to a chemist or pharmacist than the doctor due to the unending queues, fear, lack of funds, stigma, among others. Instadoc is an app designed such that from the comfort of your home or wherever you are, you have access to any healthcare professional. The app can be downloaded either through one’s mobile phone or on the web. It encourages people to care for their health without necessarily having to physically go into the hospital. One subscribes on the app and can chat, talk with or have a video call with our healthcare professionals. The app provides privacy between our clients and doctors as no one else is in on the calls and there is more than one consultation to the subscription. We offer one-on-one consultations, wellness sessions, health audit claims among other services. Our wellness sessions are provided to organisations, schools etc., while the claims are focused at assisting HMOs (Health Maintenance Organisations) with keeping their books in order.
Instadoc serves people of all ages, culture, class, sexual orientation etc. Our target is any and every one desiring the best healthcare for themselves and their families. Our services to elderly people and children avail them the opportunity to access health care services from the comfort of their location.
Our packages are at different levels and address the matter of an individual’s concerns (cost wise). Through the app, we have been able to assist and care for people of all ages with different health concerns.
We have over the years had the opportunity through the app to care for people. The app is a means to positively reach and impact lives and reduce lack of growing health concerns across Nigeria and beyond.
Our team are professionals who cut across various backgrounds i.e. our healthcare professionals, administrative, customer care, IT, social media. The team has members who speak some of the major languages in Nigeria; this is a win for us especially in taking care of some of the people we consult as not everyone speaks English. We are structured into different sectors; organisations, youths, older adults and the workforce (without HMO provision and traders).
Our wellness sessions give us the opportunities to further help people understand that taking care of their health is essential. These sessions hold online and in person. They are not just talk sessions but we involve the participants to join in on through a question and answer portion and also exercises.
The team overseen by our board continually seek the means to show people our commitment to serve them through our app/services. We have had the opportunity to partner with NGOs and top-level companies in Nigeria.
- Increase local capacity and resilience in health systems, including the health workforce, supply chains, and primary care services
- Nigeria
- Growth: An organization with an established product, service, or business model that is rolled out in one or more communities
500 people across Nigeria
We believe that our service is needed by more people especially in a region like ours and need Solve to assist
For funding
Recognition, support and a wider impact
- Business Model (e.g. product-market fit, strategy & development)
- Financial (e.g. accounting practices, pitching to investors)
- Product / Service Distribution (e.g. delivery, logistics, expanding client base)
- Public Relations (e.g. branding/marketing strategy, social and global media)
- Technology (e.g. software or hardware, web development/design)
It is not about the app but the attention to care and concern; ensuring that our clients are well taken care of such that they would always remember to reach out if they have any other health concerns or people who do.
Our solution gives the client access to a medical practitioner 24/7; the clients book their meetings themselves and are consulted with. Even in cases where older adults come onboard; most of them may not be tech savvy but we have that covered as we have also created a platform within our services whereby our customer service team onboard them manually and they receive our services.
Our impact goals for the next year and five years are in consonance with our plan to ensure that people receive the best healthcare and attention that everyone desires and needs.
In the next one year, we see ourselves reaching and providing services to at least another 2,000 people across Nigeria and Canada, ensuring that people have their doctors within their reach.
In five years, we will have reached 12,000 people and hope to be a household name. Other areas are:
- -To be a one-stop-shop for meeting the health needs of organisations
- -To reduce the mortality rate across the country through more people knowing about our platform and taking advantage of it
- -To increase the rate at which people take care of themselves as individuals through our wellness sessions etc
- -To assist more HMOs and Health Insurance companies with their audit claims
- -Reach at least 5,000 youths through the youth-corper service scheme. We find that a lot of them go unprepared for this one-year period away from home
- 3. Good Health and Well-being
We are measuring our input, output and outcome using indicators such as:
- Activities of our team members using a project tracker
This is done through our daily activity sheets and our meetings to ensure that we are working with our goals and plans per time
- Number of app and web users
- Tracking of clients (potential and existing)
We follow up with our clients and ensure that they are always doing well by sending mails, calling or sending texts/chats.
- Tracking of Partnership engagements
- Using data for decision making
We believe that of we are able to reach individuals and corporate organisations with the ease for accessing healthcare, there will be less people needing emergency services, more people will live a healthy life with a better life expectancy. Therefore, healthier people will be able to create and maintain wealth, resulting in better individuals, households, nations and global communities as a whole.
