Children Health Care Management health centres are saving children’s lives.
The effects of drought and food insecurity have left children in the country at great risk of diseases, including measles.
Health centres mobilize workers who reach out by text messages, phone or in person to make sure children have access to vaccination services.
“Outreach is very important to reach the child who cannot come to the health centre and the mother who cannot come,” says mafa, a 24-year-old clinical health and social worker at Sultan Health Centre.
Amina, a mother of four, walked for an hour to have Kafio vaccinated – she was responding to a message she received from Mafa health centre.
“That’s why I always vaccinate my children,” said Amina. “I don’t write and I don’t read but they give me calls on the phone.”
