FriendnPal
In Africa, most especially Nigeria, mental health is not taken seriously and under emphasized and this has led to depression, sickness and even avoidable death. Contrary to the 'quiet' nature of most mental health issues, depression is causing waves in the African society. Well over a 100 million people in Africa suffer from clinical depression and don't get us started on other mental health issues like PTSD, eating disorder.
Growing up in a community where there is stigmatization of mental health and therapy, I have seen the problems this has caused and this is why people find it difficult to confide in others and this is what we are trying to curb. FriendnPal was birthed to proffer solutions to the stigmatization and frustration of mental health therapy in Africa.
FriendnPal has the potential to revolutionize mental health care in Africa. With the COVID-19 pandemic causing significant disruptions in traditional mental health care, digital mental health services have become increasingly important.

By leveraging data and machine learning algorithms, our AI can help identify patterns and predict potential mental health disorders before they escalate, leading to faster and more effective treatment and also be used to provide personalized interventions and support, such as chatbots that offer counseling and support to our users.
Additionally, our AI will help our mental health professionals better understand and diagnose mental health disorders by providing more accurate assessments and predictive analytics. By analyzing patterns in data, AI can help clinicians to identify key risk factors and develop targeted interventions.

The technical aspect of our AI mental health chatbot (Pal) targeting Africa involves various components that work together to create a seamless user experience. Here are the key technical elements that form the chatbot:
1. Natural Language Processing (NLP): Leveraging AI to understand and interpret human language/speech. Pal will use speech-to-speech to make communication efficient (emulating the standard conversation with a human
therapist).
2. Machine Learning: We have made a huge time investment when it comes to collecting and storing data on user interactions. The data can be analyzed to gain insights into user behavior and preferences, which will be used to improve Pal's performance
3. Chat Interface: User-facing component of Pal, implemented as a mobile application. The chat interface will allow users to interact with Pal and receive mental health support.
4. Cloud Computing: Pal will run on a cloud-based system that uses a combination of servers and databases. This will ensure scalability, improved response time, and reliable uptime.
