E-Maternity
14.5% of persons with disability in Uganda are Women. 15% of the women in Uganda have a disability. (UBOS 2016). These women have similar fertility rate and reproductive needs as the able bodied women. However, these women have evidently been challenged in accessing equal reproductive and maternal health care as their counterparts. Most especially Antenatal care-ANC. With poor uptake and utilisation of ANC obstetric mortality and morbidity, undesirable pregnancy outcomes have been recorded in these mothers. Moreso, it has contributed to the current Ugandas maternity Mortality Ratio of 336 per 100,000 live birth.The health care system has not included this population in service delivery, moreso, due the disability, geographical challenges have hindered their access to quality and timely ANC services. This calls for measures to provide equitable, affordable and friendly access to quality ANC among this population.
Enable Maternity.
Integration of Online application communication systems for an online/mobile clinic to provide Antenatal care-ANC services for movement impaired and incapacitated mothers (Mothers with both acquired and inborn disability) at their homes and at their comfort.
Enable Maternity shall utilise online application system as a communication platform an interface between clients and E-Maternity clinic health care providers: the online app will be a portal that allows mothers to sign up for accounts as well as healthcare providers. Mothers can be able to access basic Antenatal care information like warning signs during pregnancy,,and contact E-Maternity clinic for consultations which shall be either be online or physical. For pregnant mothers, they shall be able arrange their Antenatal care contacts with E-Maternity while at their homes and at their comfort. E-Maternity clinic with it's partners, they will be providing healthcare providers: trained nurse, medical officer, Lab technician with their equipment to the mother's home. They shall be Conducting basic medical check ups, recommended Antenatal care services: pregnancy monitoring, imaging: ultra sound scan,baseline and routine investigations : lab investigations; urinalysis, CBC, malaria, Syphilis,Hepatitis B screening, preventative therapy for malaria, Tetanus, cervical cancer screening, Folic acid and iron supplements, Antenatal education and counseling.
The E-Maternity healthcare providers shall be providing consultations, follow up of clients till delivery, referral of clients where necessary. Moreso, client's records will be recorded into the software. This is the most effective and efficient record storage in health system. With time, E-Maternity clinic shall introduce Maternity Cards with QR codes embedded with details of the client. Easiest way to keep medical records and easily accessible at any time by the client.
E-Maternity enables pregnant/expectant mothers with movement incapacitation and impairment access Antenatal care services at their comfort.
Mothers with disability both acquired and inborn are challenged in all ways from physical to emotional in accessing Antenatal care services with easy. Due to their disability they too face social stigma and discrimination by even the health workers at certain facilities. This has significantly instilled fear in these mothers to even conceive due to the challenges that await them ahead.
E-Maternity will provide mobile Antenatal care services to these mothers at their homes and at their comfort. This will eliminate social stigma, discrimination and neglect ,fear thus improving their social living, security and mental wellbeing.
More so, E-Maternity will promote confidentiality and privacy since services will be provided at the homes and comfort of mothers.
Saving time while at a facility and preventing the risk of hospital acquired infection. With the ugandan health systems, populations receiving care from health facilities are always more than the staff.. thus line up waiting for long hours to receive care. Moreso the facility staff may be tired and mothers are sent back unattended to irrespective of where they come from and expenses. E-Maternity will surely eliminate this hiccup since services find you home this clients can attend to other activities with out the pressure to prepare for a travel to health facilities for service that can be brought to their homes.visiting hospitals is a risk factor of acquiring infection. With E-Maternity.this is avoided. Mothers are out of this risk. E-Maternity will improve patient centered care to the clients. Accessing health care services with ease.
Saving clients from the travel fears, geographical challenges, physical challenges in accessing the facility, staircases, poor terrains to support the aid devices for the disabled mothers.
I have volunteered in different regions, health facilities, and medical camps. For example Bukedea district in National Medical Camp Bukedea Eastern, Camp Karamoja Northeastern Uganda, Kyabirukwa HC 3, Isingiro District this also serve Nakivale Refugee settlement camp, Bunagana Town council Kisoro district, Bwindi community Hospital in southwestern Uganda, Lira Regional Referral Hospital in Northern Uganda, Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital. This experience and exposure as the teamlead has equipped with the motivation to champion positive change to the neglected populations. I am a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery student at Mbarara University of Science and Technology-MUST Uganda, on top of my career professional in providing healthcare, MUST provides mentorship in Technology and innovation through different sections like CAMTech Uganda as evidenced by innovations it has spearheaded at MUST and other innovators,mentors at MUST.
The team has two nursing students, one offering Bachelor of Nursing Science Completion. She has attended a working experience with these mothers and community interaction for more than 3 years. This a skill in community condition and Antenatal care services provisions. Moreso, as part of professional training, medicals students are trained in radiology and imaging techniques thus we can conduct Antenatal imaging. The IT personnel, to hundle the Technology part: bachelor of computer science.better resources to handle the business.
I have attained certificate in Project monitoring and planning, civic leadership and participation from Ecourse4 Michigan fellowship Agribusiness Initiative 2022, millennium fellowship class 2022, Medxmentorship. These are capacity building programs in project management.

Utilising mobile application and software with mobile clinic to provide Antenatal care-ANC services to mothers with incapacitated movement isn't the traditional way of healthcare delivery. E-Maternity uses prevailing and sophisticated technological advancement to improve access and uptake of Antenatal care-ANC. The idea of using mobile application and software mobile clinic to offer Antenatal care and supplementary cares borrows knowledge from Rocket health and Telemedicine. Integration of the innovativeness of these two depicts the advancement in knowledge.
Since mothers shall be receiving ANC at their comfort, their lives in all aspects: social, emotional, attitude and practices on ANC uptake,will improve. Patient centred care concept shall be well displayed due to high order of privacy and confidentiality. Mothers will be able to conducted other livelihood activities instead of waiting on long lines at facilities for ANC services.

Quality and accessible Antenatal care-ANC is a right to every fertile mother that intends to deliver irrespective of their physical and psychological being. The fact that E-Maternity clinic shall provide ANC services to mothers with incapacitated movement will be a motivation and opportunity for such mothers to full enjoy their health and social rights during pregnancy. This shall without question impact such mothers for the best.
