GETAIKI
The Problem
In Nigeria, 34.9 million are unemployed or underemployed and 1.1 million out of the 1.5 million that apply for tertiary institutions yearly cannot get in. Illiteracy and Unemployment are at an alarming rise in developing countries, affecting the youth.
Our Solution
Getaiki trains and hires underprivileged young people to provide technical support to homes and businesses that require ongoing technical support. As well as large corporations that will be more effective in outsourcing non-core technical aspects of their business.
Description of the problem within the challenge
Illiteracy denies a disadvantaged group of people access to education, information, digital literacy, and services. This educational barrier is epidemic and prevalent in developing countries. In Nigeria, tertiary institutions cannot admit about 1.1 million out of the 1.5 million that apply yearly. According to the United Nations Development Programme, 80 million, constituting 30.9% of Nigerians are uneducated. 781 million of the world’s population are illiterate. Levels of education and skills remain low, most especially amongst African youths of working age which makes them unemployable.
Unemployment constitutes economic inequality which excludes youths from active economic participation and prosperity. In Nigeria, 34.9 million are unemployed and underemployed and over 192 million people are unemployed in the world.
Contributing factors to our solution
Access to education and employable skills for disadvantaged youths through technical training.
Encourage and spur equal opportunity for inclusive participation and economic growth amongst youths by connecting them to technical support jobs around the world. We believe that everyone deserves the right to a decent livelihood notwithstanding their social or economic background.
Who we are serving
1. Our impact is designed for underprivileged youths who lack employable skills and formal education due to the competitiveness and difficulty of getting a college degree in Nigeria.
2. Individuals and businesses in need of technical support around the world.
How we are working with them
1. We take the youths through a pre-enrollment interview to identify which technical skill they are suited for, then enrollment and training in the area we find fit. We further help them through the process of deciding whether they would prefer to join our team of technicians at Getaiki or secure a job outside Getaiki network.
2. Individuals and businesses request tech support through our website and get paired with a suitable technician.
How the solution helps
At the end of the training, the trainees have retained employable technical skills and a great deal of self-esteem to impact their communities with their knowledge. They may choose to work within our network and get paid per technical support service rendered or we help them seek employment outside our network.
The solution
We are building an alternative to college education system that trains unemployed youths in technical support skills. We designed a 3-dimensional approach; Getaiki Champion, Getaiki Beta and Getaiki Global. Depending on the mode of training and contract between Getaiki and the trainees. Getaiki Champion and Beta go through a blended curriculum; our online courses and community learning hub. After being trained, Getaiki Champion joins our network of technicians and earn 70% on each service request assigned while Getaiki Beta secures employment outside the Getaiki network with our help and for a period of two years, we take 20% of their salary. Getaiki Global go through our online courses and get charged an optional premium fee of $0.99 for support and certification. This 3-dimensional approach helps to scale impact and revenue.

We then take them through an intensive training exercise.
