Sustainable Agriculture
The specific problem we are working to solve is unemployment and poverty in the communities where we operate. This problem is widespread in Sierra Leone, where the unemployment rate is estimated at 15.9%, and poverty affects 53.8% of the population. The lack of job opportunities is particularly acute among youth and women, who face multiple barriers to accessing decent work. This situation is compounded by the COVID-19 pandemic, which has further disrupted economic activities and worsened living conditions for vulnerable groups. Our solution of cultivating coconut trees, producing coconut oil for cosmetic use and cooking, and converting the coconut meat to biscuits and coconut shells to charcoal briquettes aims to create sustainable jobs and income opportunities for local communities. By doing so, we hope to contribute to poverty reduction and social empowerment, particularly for youth and women.
Factors contributing to this problem include limited access to education and skills training, weak business infrastructure, and a lack of investment in the rural economy. Globally, unemployment and poverty are major development challenges, with an estimated 190 million people unemployed and 736 million people living in extreme poverty. Our solution aims to contribute to the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 1 (No Poverty), Goal 5 (Gender Equality), and Goal 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth).
Our company is committed to sustainability, waste reduction, and environmental protection. By cultivating coconut trees and buying from local farmers, we promote sustainable agriculture practices and help support local communities. We utilize every part of the coconut, from the fruit to the shells, by converting them into coconut oil, biscuits, and charcoal briquettes for biofuel. In doing so, we reduce waste and mitigate the environmental impact of deforestation and carbon emissions. Our products are healthy and nutritious, providing a range of health benefits to our customers. Additionally, our operations create jobs for local communities, providing economic opportunities and improving livelihoods. We believe that our commitment to sustainability, waste reduction, and environmental protection is not only good for the planet but also good for people and businesses.
The target population we are working to improve includes individuals in Sierra Leone who are looking for affordable, healthy, and sustainable products that are produced locally. This includes individuals who are interested in using coconut oil for cooking and cosmetic purposes, as well as those who are looking for a healthier alternative to traditional snacks such as biscuits. Our target population also includes individuals who are looking for an eco-friendly and affordable source of fuel for cooking and heating.
Our targeted populations are Farmers, Traders, Communities, NGOs, Government, industrials, restaurants, hotels, and end users.
Currently, many individuals in Sierra Leone rely on imported products that are often expensive and may not be sustainable or healthy. Additionally, there is a lack of job opportunities in many communities, particularly in rural areas. Our solution addresses these needs by providing affordable and locally-produced products that are healthy and sustainable. By creating jobs in the production and distribution of these products, we are also helping to improve economic opportunities for individuals in these communities.
Our team comprises various individuals who are born and raised in Sierra Leone in different regions and ethnic groups. Therefore, we know the needs of our various communities which we have been part of.
However, we had to conduct a survey of our various communities, they see the need to practice sustainable farming, which will provide sustainable income which is preferable to subsistence farming, which also helps them to cultivate coconut trees that protect their environment and also reduces carbon emissions by using agricultural waste has charcoal and also provide income for them.
The founder and CEO is well knowledgeable about issues in his country, I saw the lack of production in our country, we do not add value to our local products therefore we cannot export our goods elsewhere. Therefore, I set up the hope and joy investment to charge the negative narrative. I have numerous certificates in entrepreneurship.

Our initiative 'flips the script' by challenging the traditional linear model of agriculture and promoting a circular economy. Instead of discarding waste from the coconut tree, we utilize every part of it to create multiple products. This not only reduces waste but also creates a sustainable source of income for local farmers. Our initiative challenges the conventional belief that agriculture must involve wasteful practices and highlights the potential for sustainable and profitable alternatives. It has the power to create a new narrative of agriculture that is not only environmentally friendly but also economically viable for local communities.
