The Ultimate Waste Reclaimer

Waste reclaimers are currently insufficiently supported. They collect waste on their own initiative with minimal resources. The waste they collect is limited to PET bottles, Cardboards, Glass bottles - easy to pick material that can also be easily traded or resold. Their work circumstances are very unhyginic and the income they make is very small. The waste collection effort is wasteful in the sense that it is too based on trial and error - a waste collector is not sure how much recyclable waste they will collect per collection run. Because the reclaimers are limited in what they can collect, the cake is not growing as fast as those that consume it. Soon there will be waste wars, literally.

The Wastedump solution aims to make available a waste ehailing system whereby waste generators make requests for recyclable waste collections and the reclaimers respond to these requests. This solution will ensure that

- collections are efficient as each waste reclaimer knows how much waste they will collect

- The reclaimers will collect more waste, and by far

- The income of the reclaimers will increase tenfold

- There will be no need for foraging waste bins and landfills in an attempt to recover recyclable waste, waste is collected directly from source and is already separated

- Waste generators will get a percentage share of the revenues from the resale of the waste so that they continue participating in separating the waste and bringing it into the value chain

- Waste reclaimers will undergo verification so that in case there are issues individual responsibility is possible

The Wastedump solution aims to create a portal where waste generators and waste reclaimers are in a coalition to share both the responsibility for collecting waste as well as the benefits that arise therefrom.

Without this coalition, waste reclaimers are left without enough capacity to do the job effectively, efficiently, and comprehensively. Although their effort is commendable, they are picking a pittance of the waste because, by the time they reclaim the waste, it is already mixed up and thus contaminated.

Picking up separated waste avoids contamination and more waste would be collected, quickly and hygienically so.

Because the reclaimers, under the Wastedump system, will be responding to specific requests for collection, their efforts are pointed and there is no waste of resources in trial and error.

Since the waste is difficult to collect at present, due to contamination, each waste reclaimer is collecting so little, not enough to create a tangible path out of poverty. The Wastedump solution aims to target a minimum income for the waste reclaimers and through cross-subsidization, support those reclaimers that are not yet meeting the minimum collections per period.

The Wastedump solution is aware that the income to be derived by waste generators is quite small per collection. The answer to this challenge is to organize individuals into groups, commonly known in South Africa, as Stokvels. In essence, individually I may have contributed a small amount to the group, say R200 per month, but collectively, we have saved a total of say R500 000 in that month. Our estimation is that individual waste generators will be able to share about R400 Million per year when the project is in full swing. Though individually they will not be rich, collectively they will be wealthy, and that is the difference.

Region sponsors, who provide upfront capital to enable the set up of the expansive infrastructure required to support both waste reclaimers and generators, will be rewarded with a 5% share of the income from the sale of the recyclable waste. A region sponsor is someone who buys rights to a 12-month share of income in, say the Johannesburg area. Every time the reclaimers collect waste from this region, the waste sponsor is paid a 5% share. Our estimation and goal is that region sponsors make a minimum 100% return on their investment per annum. This is possible because of the efficient collection and the enormous additional waste that is currently not recycled at all.

The Wastedump Solution is ideal for the following

- Everyone who generates waste, individuals, Holdholds, Commercial businesses, Industrial businesses, Government Departments, event organizers, and Public institutions, such as (schools, universities, and prisons)

- Waste reclaimers are often unemployed persons who resort to reclaiming waste because there are no opportunities for work. With the pittance of income, they derive from the constrained waste reclaiming, they live hand to mouth, literally. Because they pick waste from dust bins and illegally from landfills, their health suffers progressively, away from scrutiny. The waste reclaimers are often young desperate people who will only feel the effects of deteriorating health when they enter old age. The Wastedump solution solves this problem in a couple of ways. 

   - The manner of collections is hygienically safe

   - Waste reclaimers will now have benefits such as funeral cover, Annuity, Pensions, and medical aid cover

   - Waste reclaimers will be expected to attend mandatory training workshops that will cover all aspects of their career or business progression and also the welfare in general

   - Because of verifications and vetting, each collection will be assigned a trusted individual, and the high risk of crime prevalent currently, is drastically mitigated.

Region Sponsors are general public individuals who have spare cash to invest. The returns we aim to deliver for this group are very competitive so we assure the availability of the capital required to grow the ecosystem.

- As more waste is picked up and systematically so, we expect offshoots of opportunities, particularly in recycling more.

- Waste recyclers, to whom the waste is sold, will have a much more consistent supply of feedstock that can be forecasted with a measure of accuracy. They will thus no longer be circumspect in their expansion plans when they have a system that reliably guarantees supply. 

The team is currently the founder and the potential website and mobile application developer.

Three potential developers have been identified. Their quotes have been classified as Reasonable, Moderate, and Very expensive respectively.

The reasonable quote fits our budgetary outlook of R500 K.

When the application is complete, a workforce of 63 to 1,000 headcount will be put in place with various responsibilities to ensure delivery of the strategy.

Our solution is a concept yet to be developed. In full swing, it will impact more than 1,000,000 people in various capacities, direct or indirectly

The Wastedump solution is a necessary intervention in our effort to correct the destruction of the environment from our civilization. Any tentative interventions or apathy will come at a heavy price for future generations. We have to be bold and act decisively, albeit incrementally.

Wastedump does not have the resources necessary to develop the required technology that addresses reclaiming absolutely. Support from region sponsors is only expected to flourish when reputable offices are set up and investors can trust that this project is credible.

The Wastedump solution embraces technology as a necessary enabler is solving current and future problems. The ehailing of waste is novel in this region and addresses squarely the shortcomings of the waste reclaiming models which, at best, will not reach a significant collection milestone (comprehensively), because of structural design limitations. Our solution removes all the inhibitions and unleashes opportunities that could never have been imagined.

- Employ more than 1,000 staff members with decent salaries

We have run a mock survey to test the interest in the Wastedump solutions. We got a remarkable interest from current and potential waste reclaimers. A few companies have expressed appreciation at the prospect of getting some return from their waste as opposed to the current cost item. This suggests to us that when we have set up appropriate structures and do the necessary marketing, the impact will be exponential.

When these stakeholders collaborate as planned, more waste will be collected. More waste will be recycled. More opportunities for employment and business will unfold.

The income levels particularly the waste reclaimers will improve drastically. 

Waste generators get no reward at all from the current recycling value chain, In the waste dump system, waste generators will derive income so that they perpetually participate in the program 

The financial health of Wastedump is underpinned by

- Raising capital to complete the website and mobile application

- Wastedump will have sponsors who purchase regions in advance for a return of 5% share of any waste collected from the region for a period of 12 months

- Wastedump will share 15% of the recyclable waste sales

- Wastedump embeds Google ads on its platforms as there will be a lot of audiences who use the application daily

- Wastedump will develop a da6tabase that offers accurate waste information which can be queried in detail and various forms

Though we have established interest in our project, credibility has been a stumbling block, particularly with regional sponsors. With no identifiable infrastructure and know active address with identifiable employees, we have not been able to set Wwastedump apart from the regular imposters on the internet.

All efforts to drive income have been halted until we have the website and mobile application.
