Creating employment for single mothers.
Unemployed single mothers with vulnerable children.
According to an assessment carried out in 2004 by the Single Parents Association of Uganda (SPAU), over 50% of families in Uganda are single parent households. It's overwhelming with the increasing rates of single motherhood in Kigwanya Village, Gomba district Uganda from the consequences of covid 19, with over 80% of families being affected.
Most of the single mothers live in poverty due to the casual and unpaid employment and yet they hold very many responsibilities. This is mainly due to their low levels of education and ignorance to start up sustainable business ventures in order to improve on their standards of living.
Meanwhile, these single mothers are breadwinners in their respective homes, they provide basic necessities and even sponsor their children to school. This turns out to be a very heavy burden for a poor woman to carry, the majority simply can’t manage, and that is how most families end up lacking life’s basic needs. This has equally stood out as one of the leading causes of early marriages especially to the vulnerable girl child, these have no option but to give in to the lascivious men and thus causing a generational cancer “children giving birth to children," where the young girls get pregnant and are later divorced hence bringing about single motherhood, this is automatically not okay.
Poultry power Uganda choses to empower women with knowledge and skills of modern poultry farming. This is through innovative skills and actions with a goal of curbing poverty through employment creation. Focusing at opening up our thoughts to create employment opportunities, train and skill, sensitize and boost the employment-education of vulnerable children starting from the grassroots (single mothers). We aim to empower single mothers with the modern skills and knowledge of rearing and selling of poultry products, training our beneficiaries to acquire basic knowledge in poultry rearing. We aim to train in quarterly phases where provision of a startup stock of chicks to single mothers for them to start up their poultry farms and our umbrella. Monitoring and evaluation of the performance of the farms based on their daily expenditure, revenues and other forms of accountabilities. We are looking at finding ready markets for our farmers' produce (products) such as eggs and chicken.

My name is Mujuni Posiano a young man aged 23 years, I am a graduate from Makerere University with the Bachelors of Business Administration I attach great interest in leadership and believe in young people being socially responsible.
From 2017 to 2018, I served at St Marks College Namagoma as a Liturgy Prefect (Catholics) which benefited me a lot in learning public speaking, listening, critical thinking and problem solving among others. I became a leader with the following skills.
Communication skills: I have the ability to communicate with different kinds of people.

Team work skills. I have ability to work together to accomplish task. This is very important for me and my team in process of implementing the idea.
However I grew up with Mother as my Father stayed away from home for long times. In that time that time, I experienced what my mother went through to raise our family, provide needs to us and take us (children) to school.
In our communities and other communities, many single mothers remain neglected and alone, I therefore together with the team (POULTRY POWER UGANDA) desire and aim at changing our communities by empowering single mothers in the rearing of poultry

Each day I live I become a more sharpened and improved leader who devotes and dedicates his time towards achieving and improving the livelihood of others. I know my own personality which makes me authentic in the way I engage with other people and the way I use authority. I communicate my values, and what I stand for . I have been motivated a lot by my past. What I have gone through from my childhood keeps me advocating and yarning to make a change in my community or wherever I am. Being born from economically disadvantaged family made me see what really people go through when they lack some of the basic needs in life, men have abandoned their families and some have taken their life due to too much stress and depression they go through just because they lack bred to feed their families so such experience and others factors keep me forced to advocate for social change.

Poultry Power Uganda aims to empower single mothers into the rearing of chicken in particular the Kuroiler breeds. We chose to rear Kuroiler breed of chicken due to their ability to grow faster with good care. Hens mature between two to four months and weigh between 2 to 3 kilograms, their ability to provide both meat and eggs for sale.
Other advantages that impelled us to rear Kuroilers, is their ability to resist diseases, ability to to be kept in free range and semi free range considering some of our farmers may fail to get good housing facilities to the birds.
More on Kuroiler hens is that they easily produce more eggs about 150-200 eggs per year, have more weight about double the body weight of the indegeneous counterparts and provide much more edible meat to our customer.
Poultry Power Uganda aims to train in quarterly phases where provision of the start-up stock of chicks to single mothers for them to start their own poultry farms under our umbrella. After every 3 months, we will recruit 30 single mothers as our new beneficiaries who go through the needed training and after the 3 months, we give them to start-up stock of chicks to start their poultry farms.
Monitoring and evaluation of the performance of the farms based on their daily expenditure, revenues and other forms of accountabilities. This will be possible through the trust we will build with our beneficiaries, regular visits and support.
We are looking at finding ready markets for our farmers' produce (products) such as eggs and chicken. Using our tool of collaboration with different selling media like supermarkets, online selling platforms such as Jumia, Jiji we will find for our farmers markets for their produce (products) such as eggs and chicken.
We will provide/train our farmer with financial literacy skills like record keeping, budgeting among others for them to to track their finances and good accountability during monitoring stage.

Additionally, other single mothers shall also get the opportunity to enter into the business.

As poultry power Uganda, our main goal is to empower single mothers. Our measures of success will be based on the following aspects.
1. Accomplishment of set targets.
We shall evaluate our success basing on the set targets and whether they are accomplished in the set time with no failure. This will help us know how efficient our programs will be. This will also enable us analyze our set targets in regarding to the achievement of our goals and set the necessary adjustments.
2. Cost analysis
This will help us in the evaluation of our spending. We shall be able to make comparisons between our budget and actual spending and earnings to identify the existing variations hence putting us in position to manage our expenditure and earnings in a better way.
3. Total output registered annually per single mother
We expect the number of output to increase per mother number for the success of our goals. We shall provide adjustable programs to these single mothers to ensure that their performance is in line with the achievement of the set goals. Since one of our goals is to financially empower women, their production has to be increasing annually to be able to reach out to other teenage mothers to generally impact women.
By having principles and rules that govern the business so that we achieve and accomplish of set targets.

We shall provide financial literacy services to these single mothers at zero cost or some times at a cost though it will be a low one . This is to impact them with knowledge and skills in managing their finances in the future. We shall also extend loans to the single mothers and the youths who will be part of our employees at a low interest rate to enable them to finance their activities. We shall also be selling the products of chickens to increase on the income. These single mothers will also be required to save a given percentage of their earning for further investments.
Additionally, we plan to process chickens and supply to restaurants, hotels and other related customers. This is to widen the source of income and extend services to other people.
We also hope to partner with other farms in the related area to widen on the market size and get more experience.
We hope to have trained at least
40 single mothers into successful poultry farmers (chickens) with the capability of running their business independently. These will then be allowed to operate independently of the venture, but will be entitled to training new members into the venture at a free cost as a give back to the venture and the community as well. This will help us reduce on the costs of training of new members.
We look forward to adopting local incubation methods which is blanket incubation to be trained to our beneficiaries such that the coats of operations are reduced once they start operating independent from the venture
