Education opportunity for older Americans

Brain Health

As Americans, we can do ourselves enormous good by realizing that most of us would like to learn something we do not know before we die.  We can say to each other “Let’s do ourselves a favor.  Each person over some age, say 55 or 60, maybe 65 or 70, has the right to go back to school and learn so that the person may fulfill more of the person’s potential before the person dies.  We, as a society, will pay the tuition and basic living needs so that each of us may have this opportunity in life.”  The argument against this is that it would be expensive.  It would.  But we spent over a trillion dollars in Iraq alone and America got nothing out of it; America may be worse for it.  We spent hundreds of billions on other wars recently, which got America nothing.  We spend trillions of dollars on football stadiums and other entertainments.  We have the money.  Going back to school, in person or online or both, will improve the brain health of Americans once they reach the age to qualify .  In addition to improving our emotions, it will actually change the structure of our brains.  Terrible brain decay happens to all of us.  Education would be a great benefit.
