Farms2shelves
- Pre-Seed
Farms2shelves offers wholly organic food and beverages from fruits, vegetables and nuts that could have gone to waste before reaching the market because of inadequate storage facilities, inefficient distribution chain and broken market linkages using predominantly solar/green energy.
Our local food processing center offers farmers the opportunity to sell their produce to us for a competitive price, while we are able to take advantage of efficiency of buying right from the source rather than later on in the distribution chain. Farms2shelves is a social venture dedicated to decreasing food spoilage and increasing low scale farmers income by using predominantly renewable energy technologies like solar and biomass dehydrators, oil pressers, food processors, milling machine and food extruders.
Our vision is to replicate the project in strategic locations in the country thereby improving the efficiency of farmers while producing value added products from fruits, vegetables and nuts in the country, thereby building socially inclusive, economically productive and environmentally sustainable and resilient cities across the country.
My solution aims to build sustainable cities by promoting healthy nutrition, creating jobs, improving income for low income farmers, reducing food waste and promoting the use of renewable energy technologies. Food spoilage is a serious problem in Nigeria, up to 40% of all fruits and vegetables spoil before being sold at the market. This is as a result of long and inefficient distribution chain as well as lack of proper food storage during the distribution process.
We are in a business relationship with not less that 8 farmers, we deal directly with farmers to make sure impact reaches them and their families. The idea of middle men doesn't help farmers get value for their products. We hope to increase our staff strength with the growth of the venture and establish more lasting partnerships with the members of the community. We are passionate about social issues and running campaigns urging people to take action and embrace sustainable systems and healthy nutrition especially in women and children.
Our vision is to create a chain of food processing centres that promote renewable energy application in agricultural practices across the nation so that we can have an impact on every part of the country, we buy local and process locally, to reduce the amount of food waste. We produce food and beverages from fruits, vegetables and nuts using predominantly solar/green energy. Our products are natural and full of nature's goodness. We aim to decrease food spoilage and increase farmers income by at least 2% every year.

Similar type of project to address farmers loss of income has not been established earlier in Nigeria. Related similar work has been reported in other developing countries has been reported in countries like India and huge success has been achieved. The project can help us achieve zero hunger and improved nutrition in the country.
The technology we use solve issues of poor storage facilities, poor processing technologies and its simple enough to use and understand.
By establishing food processing centers at every state of the federation or at least every geo-political zone. We buy local and process local. we can reach a lot of farmers that way and have a good impact in their businesses.

Originally, revenue generated from one center was supposed to be used to open another center in another location, but this will slow our progress and impact will be minimal, so we propose expanding our current center by getting a bigger office space and buying more machinery like the spray dryer for the processing of tigernuts, other fruits and tamarind into ready to drink granules, and our own packaging machine so we dont have to outsource and opening another 2 centers in 2 other strategic states.
1. Accessibility: we can only serve areas where we have a center
2. Funding: we will need money to expand and grow.
3. Improved machinery and capacity building, we need more exposure to find more technologies that will work for us.
