Agricom, we are addressing the critical issue of food waste, which amounts to approximately 2.6 trillion euros annually. This wasted food could feed the 815 million people facing hunger worldwide. Globalization, climate change, and economic unrest have led to high volatility and significant price fluctuations, resulting in a substantial gap between supply and demand for agricultural produce. Consequently, small farmers suffer the most, losing up to 1/3 of their harvest as surplus or imperfect produce.
The agriculture industry has lagged in digitization, with financial and knowledge barriers hindering farmers from making efficient, data-driven decisions. Existing solutions are isolated, expensive, and complex, rendering them inaccessible to farmers. There is an urgent need for an integrated agricultural planning solution that supports farmers throughout their crop growth cycles, reduces supply-demand mismatch, and enhances overall industry efficiency.
Today, more than 90% of farmers worldwide grow their crops without any scientific data, leading them to “guess” the various factors such the climatic conditions, amount of fertilizer or required water for irrigation etc which need to be accounted for before growing crops. This results in under/ excess utilization of resources leading to huge financial losses. Our solution helps farmers to grow their crops in a smart way and increase their profits by at least 30%. The solution utilizes IoT and AI-based technologies to bring transparency within the agriculture supply chain and help farmers get rid of exploitation by middlemen. Further, our innovation is concerned with different partners such as IoT companies, Irrigation companies, digital farming companies, NGOs and AgTech consultants that will provide a large network of farmers allowing scaleup of their agricultural productivity and gaining profits.
Every 20 years, the number of people relying on a single farmer doubles, emphasizing the necessity for vertically integrated solutions. The EU has implemented various directives to support farmers and boost productivity, including the Common Agricultural Policy, Rural Development Policy, Sustainable Use of Pesticides Directive, Animal Health and Welfare Directive, and Water Framework Directive.
Farmers face intensified challenges due to COVID-19, climate change, and increased production costs, prompting them to seek improved efficiency and profitability. Despite their willingness to adopt digital technologies, a gap between intention and implementation persists. To meet the rising global food demand and reduce the 40% of total production wasted each year (valued at 2.6 trillion euros), innovative solutions like Agricom are essential for tackling water and natural resource depletion while addressing climate change impacts.
