Digital Flash media Agro innovations
digital Flash media Agro innovations was established by Martha Mache who is a daughter of a smallholder farmer based in Southern Africa Zambia. After graduation from the University of Zambia. the major challenge that DFM AGRO Innovations is solving is access to quality markets for smallholder farmers, education of the local farmers about sustainable agriculture, renewable energy in agriculture and gender inclusion in agriculture. currently about 65% of the workforce is employed by agriculture in Zambia, about 75% of the food is from smallholder farmers, therefore there is to focus on the investment in agriculture in order to solve the major challenges the country is facing such as hunger, abject poverty, lack of good health, gender inequality and many others. One of our solution includes to educate smallholder farmers on quality production and agriculture inclusion to allow equity. this will help the country's economy to grow and reduce on the importation of various agriculture produces .We plan to use digital technology in agriculture market linkage as it plays a crucial role in connecting smallholder farmers with market by providing access to information on market prices, demand, and supply. Farmers can use mobile phones, internet based platforms and other digital technologies to access this information, allowing them to make informed decisions about what crop to grow, when to harvest and where to sell there produce.
sustainable agriculture practices can also to market linkages by improving the quality and quantity of agriculture of agricultural products. by adopting sustainable farming practices, farmers can increase their yields, reduce post harvest losses and produce healthier and more nutritious crops. this can make their product more attractive to supermarkets, which are increasingly interested in sourcing sustainably produced food.
At DFM AGRO Innovations, we offer market linkages between smallholder farmers and the supermarkets through subscriptions by smallholder farmers who have different packages to select from and we also have a cooperative package to allow those who have teams to also access our services. the smallholder farmers have been put in sections depending on the type of farming being performed and are called satellite farmers who are in all the 10 provinces of Zambia. these satellite farmers supply the agriculture produce in bulk as they supply in groups in order to meet the demand of the markets and consistency. we have goat farmers, poultry, vegetables and many others. then the supermarkets pay a minimum amount as commissions to DFM to allow us to consistently supply. therefore DFM AGRO thrives on subscriptions and commissions. our farmers access market, trainings and Micro finance in order to grow the business. we have conducted a number of trainings since our inception which includes tomato production, poultry farming, goat farming, agriculture management, value addition and many others. this is done both online and physically in different camps in the rural areas of Zambia. we have therefore people who have grown their capacity to the position of being self sustainable farmers from our mentorship programs. we also have allowed agriculture students from different universities and colleges access field work experience with our smallholder farmers in order to experience practical experience and appreciate the gap in theoretical and practical experience. some have even found permanent jobs as farm managers in local communities. to meet the gap in gender we have made partnerships to train woman in value addition programs in agriculture
we are currently working with different smallholder farmers across Zambia and allot of lives have transformed. women have access to land, youths have growth opportunities in agriculture, we educate people on the value of agriculture technology and sustainability. DFM is indeed growing the number of smallholder farmers and entrepreneurs into world class business people.
We have also partnered with different organisations such as Agricoop Awards Zambia in order to award our smallholder farmers with focus on gender balance and provinces in order to encourage hard work and interest in agriculture. We look forward to more partnerships and funds to help train and improve the lives of many Zambians through agriculture, this will create an enabling policy environment that supports smallholder farmers and support sustainable agriculture.
Therefore digital technology and sustainable agriculture have the potential to transform agricultural market linkages in Zambia and create new opportunities for smallholder farmers to access markets and improve their livelihoods.
