Boomian
Problem: There is a general difficulty in engaging with mentors among African youth. This hinders direct exposure and prevents the youth from making right career decisions.
Solution: Boomian is a mobile application with the aim to expose the African youth to mentors/luminaries in fields they are attracted to. Boomian embodies the boomian scale machine learning algorithm that allow users to follow a limited number of mentors in fields of their interest. The boomian scale filters loyal active followers, reveals top mentees to mentors and predict a rewarding system for the mentees from the mentors.
Impact: With a focus on scalability and impact, boomian seeks to introduce this narrative of connecting and engaging the youth with mentors as early as possible. This exposure will guide and expose the youth to career paths, successful works of their luminaries and inspire them to make fulfilling career decisions and passionately impact their communities positively.
It is unfortunate that 1 out 20 of most African youths don't have mentors or luminaries whose works and successes inspire them. This is mainly due to the lack of exposure to the works of such mentors as well as difficult and unreliable means in reaching out to them.
The everyday youth is inadvertently affected by this when it comes to harnessing their capabilities to make impactful career decisions. A commonplace theme among African youth is to enroll in Universities or colleges despite not being accepted into the right major or program. The need to enroll in college displaces the importance of studying the major of interest. This in-turn leads to the graduation of students who have no passion for the what they studied and thus, affect the impact they can have on their communities.
At Boomian, we are looking at the long term future of African communities by exposing the youth to available mentorships now. The Boomian platform will connect the youth directly to mentors whom they can feed off inspirations from: either through the mentors' content, work, successes and others
African countries are developing at an unprecedented rate. A lot of opportunities in all fields have been predicted to rise in Africa in the coming decade. The African diaspora is making more impactful decisions and technology is advancing African countries at a very high rate.
Despite this, our youth needs direction, exposure and guidance at a very early stage as we look to inspire the next generation of African youth who will utilize the advancements coming to Africa to the brim.
African countries continue to develop and there is the need for our youth to be more self-aware of the paths they can follow, who and where to draw inspirations from and how to utilize such inspirations.
Boomian tackles this situation by providing a platform for the youth and mentors to connect efficiently and directly. However, providing a platform won't solve this problem by itself. Hence, the need for the Boomian Scale Machine Learning Algorithm which predicts a rewarding system for the users on the platform. Users earn Boomian Points which is an incentive for the rewarding system. Users activities on the platform involve "liking, "commenting" and "sharing" the content of their mentors.
The Boomian scale algorithm predicts users' activities on the platform, tip them with the boomian points and at a specific boomian point threshold, a mentee or user can redeem a guaranteed reward.
The rewards include but not restricted to:
- Ensured text conversation with the mentor via the Boomian app for a limited period
- Personalized reward from the mentor
Furthermore, Boomian has a limit to ensure that the platform does what it's intended to do. The criteria for the limit include:
- Limited number of mentors to follow ( This is to ensure specificity of interests) Moreover, the platform has a discover page that will match users to mentors based on their interests.
- Support communities in designing and determining solutions around critical services
- Create or advance equitable and inclusive economic growth
- Prototype
- New application of an existing technology
Our understanding of the market is unique and our approach to solving the problem of the mentorship gap is unconventional. The value we are providing is clear and straightforward. We want people to have smooth and almost uninterrupted interactions with their mentors with no bureaucracy.
According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, using social media Web sites is among the most common activity of today's children and adolescents.
In developing countries such as Ghana, Kenya and Nigeria, at least 1 out of every 5 middle aged women and men are active social media users. Undoubtedly, the fastest way to reach out to these classes of people is through the internet.
Social media is the most effective platform for stimulating audience engagement and two-way communication.
Boomian will therefore be efficient in making an important subject like mentor and or career guidance more widespread and entertaining. With the integration of sophisticated tracking and demographic / psychographic data, mentors can get to know their audiences on an almost intimate level. Boomian is giving the mentee a fast route to inspiration and guidance while mentors gets real time analytics of their content. Social media is the easiest and most effective way to blend the two without compromising value.

By 2030, approximately at least 1 billion more people will be added to the current number of internet users.
With a current number of internet users at 4 billion, 3.5 billion(up by 9% from previous year) of them use social media with 42% penetration rate.
Ghana, one of our major target countries is the 4th fastest growing country in terms of social media penetration according to Global social media research.
We see that the internet is a major way to democratize anything worthwhile but the internet in itself cannot be a solution if the manner and the approach the solvers are using are not attractive and efficient.
Boomian hence wants to use the social media style, targeting anyone who wants to be inspired and guided through a career path in entertainment, academia, health, sports, technology
as well as mentors and celebrities who need a reliable platform to assess fan loyalty and reward them.

We plan to patent the Boomian Scale Algorithm that will monitor fan involvement and activities and select them for reward. We intend to use this technology behind Boomian to venture into Agricultural Projects related to crop yield as well as create a blockchain platform for content creators in Africa to monetize their business.

We don't have any partners at the moment
We are placing value on the time prominent people who are seen as mentors spend on social and rewarding users who also promote content of their mentors. Boomian restricts users from following more than 10 verified mentors and direct messaging. Direct messaging is a one-time payable feature. The money paid to chat privately with a mentor is split between the platform and the mentor in question.
For now, we are looking at raising investment capital and bootstrapping simultaneously.
In-app purchases and ads will be the main revenue stream after we have had some traction.
Solve will give us exposure to Investors and may help inspire other people to create platforms that can help solve similar problems.
