We are committed to solving the dysfunctional aspects of civilians and leaders as well as the relationship between them in which keeps countries running optimally. Our solution utilizes technology in the form of an app including AI to unite citizens with their government officials in a seamless, mutually beneficial manner. If this solution were to be scaled globally we would be able to see millions participating in helping aid government on decisions regarding transportation, housing, and any other civic problems that need community support.
We are addressing the problem within this challenge that correlates to the dysfunctional relationship between citizens and their leaders as well as their lack of care for finding solutions to civic problems such as transportation, housing, and so on. In the community we live there is severe backlash towards government officials and lack of trust from citizens which, in turn makes leaders less efficient in solving problems which creates a cycle of distrust and noncooperation. Society has become less involved in solving civic problems and coming up with new innovative ways to advance our society but rather focused on their own personal lives such as trying to get the nicest house and car. This is seen globally and is becoming more of a problem as people become less interested in attempting to come up with solutions to such worldly problems. According to Pew Research Center, "Public trust in the government remains near historic lows. Only 17% of Americans today say they can trust the government in Washington to do what is right". This goes to show that there is a serious problem that exists and that if not addressed can be catastrophic for this country.
We intend to apply our solution to the United States at first and if it proves itself successful then we will expand it to be used in other countries that are also in need of technological aid for balancing the levels of trust between government and civilians. As of now we have been taking polls to see the interest in an app where civilians could participate in advancing their society with governmental support and so far the polls have been very in favor of the technology. The major problem from what we have been collecting is that people don't try to participate in solving civic problems because they either don't think they're voice will be heard or they think that the problems don't directly concern them. Our solution will allow citizens to directly see their impact on civic problems as well as see which governmental leaders put the solution to action which will give citizens the sense of satisfaction that they're contribution lead to an action from government which will increase trust both ways.
This will be an app where government leaders, AI, and ourselves may post several problems in society with possible solutions and let the citizens choose how to fix it in the form of a poll. Once the choice is made the government can act upon that with the app displaying full details of their process to the public. Citizens will then have the option to rate the leader or team of leaders based on their success of solving the problem. We also intend to integrate online voting for users to make it more convenient and accessible. It will also provide ratings of the nominees based off of AI analyzation as well as citizen ratings from the app itself. All together this will keep government striving to keep innovating and solving problems for citizens since they will be monitored by AI and citizen approval ratings which could either help or hurt their career. Either way it will better society and help keep civic advancements coming. So far we are utilizing modern day app development methods along with an AI program that can be used by each individual app user to give them tips on what the AI believes to be the best solution or who the best candidate to vote for would be based off of their political interests. The AI will of course be unbiased towards any party, race, gender, and eccetera whilst having the main goal to help make decisions that will benefit the overall well being of the population. In addition, citizens who come up with their own solutions to a major problem can be posted and analyzed by the AI before deciding whether there solution is better than the ones proposed. If so, then the citizen will be rewarded a cash prize for their effort to better society.
- Support communities in designing and determining solutions around critical services
- Make government and other institutions more accountable, transparent, and responsive to citizen feedback
- Concept
- New application of an existing technology
Right now civilians are poorly informed about governmental candidates and vote irrationally based off of one thing they disliked about the candidate that they saw on social media. With this technology citizens will be able to have all the knowledge they require to make the right decision as well as help from AI to give suggestions on the best plan of action. This technology will also allow citizens to participate directly in civic problem solution finding. This will be the first ever platform that allows users to participate in such actions and will be the first ever utilization of AI to help strengthen our country through helping citizens make informed choices of who to put in charge in our government. Not only will it keep citizens engaged in politics but it will keep the government accountable, transparent, and more responsive to feedback since their careers will be more dependent on it if citizens see all what they have done to better society and vote straight off of the app.
Our solution includes an app that that can relate in a way to social media. However we intend to introduce AI to the mix and utilize it's ability to be unbiased, unemotional, and it's ability to research every known fact and aspect on a subject to make the most knowledgeable decision possible that will better society.
- Artificial Intelligence
- Big Data
- Internet of Things
- Behavioral Design
- Social Networks
Our app will directly tackle the problem since it gives citizens and government a way to interact in a mutually beneficial manner and it will allow citizens participate in solving civic problems. It will also keep government transparent, accountable, and responsive to feedback since the users that vote straight from the app will be more likely to vote for an official that has a higher rating. Thus keeping the relationship between government and citizens in balance.

We are currently serving zero people since the app has not been fully developed. However with proper funding we intend to serve roughly 1 million Americans upon the first year of creation. Through the next five years we anticipate the number of Americans that will be using it will be roughly 80 million or higher.
Within the next year we hope to have a prototype of the app ready for publishing and within the next five years we intend to release it to certain states until it becomes popular enough to release to the entire country. Millions of lives will be changed in the long run because with this app our country will be able to run smoother and more efficiently. We as a country will be able to unite to solve problems such as global warming, fossil fuel depletion, transportation issues, overpopulation, and you name it with our government working right beside us.
As of now we have two barriers. One of which is the fact that in some states voting online is not allowed which is a critical component to solving the challenge. The second problem we have come across is the lack of funding we would need to construct the app with all of the features we would need inbuilt.
We intend to overcome the first barrier by first making our app available only in certain states then once the app proves itself successful we will persuade government to lift restrictions on the other states. For funding we will find donors or win this challenge in which case our solution grant money should be adequate enough to construct the app.

Just myself as of now however will be partnering up with my former programming classmates and professor.
My team and I are best placed to deliver the solution since we are all natural born problem solvers. We are incredible at locating the precise problem in any system and applying the perfect solution to the problem to keep everything running smooth and efficiently. We all have an extensive programming background and have experience in app development.
We are not partnered with any organizations currently however we look to partner with Hanson Robotics in the near future.
The populations that I will serve will be greatly benefited by the fact that they get to participate first hand in developing their country and solving civic problems. This app will allow their voice to be heard directly. As for government officials they will now know the best ways to help their citizens meaningfully and they will be able to get direct feedback for their actions without the media getting in between and distorting peoples views on issues. The app which we will provide for government and citizen usage will unite the two in a harmonic, mutually beneficial manner.
To get money to construct the app we will start with private investors, donations, and grants that we may get from winning this challenge. In the long run we plan to make the app have a yearly subscription price solely for government officials for which we will take a percentage of that to be used for maintaining our organization whilst the rest being given out as rewards to selected individuals who come up with the best solutions to the proposed problems.
I am applying to solve in the hopes of being able to make the world a better place through the release of this solution. If my solution were to win Solve it would be a very large asset in terms of gaining funds and popularity for people to download and use the app. The main reason why winning Solve would be beneficial for us would be because we would be able to get advice and mentorship from very intelligent people from both Solve and MIT. With this our app would be a guaranteed success.

Partnering with Hanson Robotics would be greatly beneficial for us since we would be able to get a little bit of insight on how the best way to integrate AI into our app would be as well as mentorship through the entire process.
If we were to win the AI innovations prize the money would be directly spent on integrating the AI into our app since it will be the most difficult and costly process for our solution. With this money we would be able to construct a team of top of the line programmers to carry out the instructions for how we need the AI to function.
The prize money we would get from this would be applied to prizes for those who come up with the best solutions for the major problems that have been listed by the government, ourselves, or the AI.
This prize would be applied to increase the cash prize amount for women who come up with the best solutions for the major problems that have been listed by the government, ourselves, or the AI.
This prize would be applied to increase the cash prize amount for refugees who come up with the best solutions for the major problems that have been listed by the government, ourselves, or the AI.
The prize money we receive from this would be applied to perfecting the AI and making it accessible to every citizen with the app rather than having one single AI system for just the general app system as a whole. We'd use the prize to expand the size of the AI and make it more versatile.
The money we would receive from this prize would be spent on expanding the app to other countries to help innovate and transform their communities as well.
