The Potato Empire
We are going to be solving world hunger, by potatoes! We shall implement greenhouses in Africa made for potato growth, and teach them everything one can do with them!
The problem, World hunger. It is said that in Africa, 226.7 million people are starving as we speak! This number might just be a statistic, however to the people living in Ethiopia and Sudan, that is not the case. It is said that 1 in 4 people suffers from hunger there. Even though this problem is far away from us, doesn’t mean it’s not important. People are dying from this. Dying. Sources say that this predicament came from a higher population growth, natural calamities and conflicts, and poverty in general. People in Somalia make an average of $500 a year! The average yearly cost of groceries is $7,700. That doesn’t add up.
The solution is simple, potatoes. Potato’s grow under a wide range of conditions, from on the equator to freezing cold temperatures, potatoes can survive. Here’s the idea, to combat hunger in Africa, We build potato greenhouses, buildings just to grow potatoes. After we build the greenhouses, we plant the potato buds, teach them how to grow them, and show them how everything works. We will set up an irrigation system so the people never have to water the potatoes, and then we will teach them every way that one can cook a potato. Within about a month, we can change the lives of numerous people, with a potato empire, the people in villages all over Sudan will now have a proper food source, and a better life.
The solution serves starving families in Sudan. The target populations is smaller villages in Sudan, I am also going to work alongside the Tigray Refugee Camp in Sudan to provide food, aka. potatoes for the people there. The people are currently underserved by getting rations each day, and there being not enough food to go around. Some don’t get to eat for weeks, and even then they get very little. They are refugees, or people below the poverty line. The potato empire is going to make sure all of the people are getting enough to eat, every single day, and for some people, that means everything.
I am known to have a green thumb. When I was 9, I grew my first mango by hand. I also volunteer to make sandwiches for the homeless shelter downtown. The people there are incredibly grateful for the food and some have even cried received a bagged lunch when everyone just passes them by. It makes them feel seen. Even the simplest thing, can change the life of a person forever.
Last year, I read a book, it was about a person in a refugee camp in Kenya. I have also engaged some friends of mine on the potato empire.
- Other: Addressing an unmet social, environmental, or economic need not covered in the four dimensions above.
- Concept: An idea being explored for its feasibility to build a product, service, or business model based on that idea.
The Potato Empire, the pinnacle of solutions to world hunger! This will change Africa for the better, forever! If the people in Africa are well fed, who knows what great innovations will come, a new kind of energy, flying cars.
In the next year, we will have a sustainable food source for at least 3 refugee camps all around Africa. Most of the villages in Sudan will have at least one greenhouse, and at least 100,000 people will know at least 3 ways to cook potatoes. By the time this is completed, at least 50% of people in Sudan will have enough food that they will never starve again. The food is forever sustainable. I will work towards these goals by creating a charity where people can freely donate for supplies, sponsoring mission trips for people who want to help out on our mission.
The technology that are going to be used are, collapsible greenhouses, water absorbent mats, and a sprinkler system attached to a well that will keep the potatoes nourished at all times. We will use seed technology to preserve the food and the quality of the seeds, aiding in the plant growth.

We expect to serve 54,750 people by next year, the number growing rapidly day by day.
The current setbacks include, the money to produce the potatoes and the greenhouses. Another barrier is my location, I currently live in Florida, so I will have to move to Sudan for a few months to accomplish my mission. School is not a setback however, for I can attend online school while in Sudan.
I do not currently parter with anyone, however I am open to any opportunities that come my way.
