The problem I am committed to solve is the continual waste of patient knowledge, thus lives, time, resources. I envision a civic tech that empowers the person in daily life with evidence and builds their social proof of knowledge and engagement in social action for better health. A network helping citizens and organizations to back up their action and translate their practice into social evidence for better treatments and services and keep governments and institutions more accountable, transparent and responsive to evidence-based citizen feedback.

I propose a grass-root network that help us find the information we need through the people we trust and build our own trusted micro-networks to engage in social action and address our real needs. A network designed by default to build social evidence and support civil engagement in designing and determining solutions around local and global health challenges. Imagine a civic powerhouse of social knowledge and change. 

Globally, humans living with a condition 24/7 and experiencing the insights of treatments, drugs, burdens, costs and systems in detail are not included in health system's amendment and their profound knowledge remains untapped. The system fails to learn from the prime health source, the patients and only includes feedback from the secondary and sometimes conflicted source, the health professionals. Who would you trust best asking for survival information in an unknown city, someone who lives there or someone who has read all about it and may promote it?

Statistics confirm the personal need for health research. Already 75% of citizens in UK and 48% in Europe are searching online for personalized health information, in total 420.500.000 citizens. Crowdwell gives citizens and communities the floor to identify local and global health needs and build grassroots networks and actively address them. We identify and address the need of the passionate but under-served volunteers working on access to healthcare and better treatments to engage the community and have an impact.

Crowdwell backs up active citizens with evidence of their action and engage them in real consultation and co-creation of health services keeping governments and providers more accountable, transparent, and responsive to citizen feedback. 

Crowdwell is focused on patient activists/advocates, the passionate but underestimated and under-served grassroots community knowing health systems and treatments in depth. Patient advocates are volunteers investing time & resources in voicing the rights of patients and fighting for transparency, fair drug pricing, access to medicine, ethical medicine, better designed treatments, affordable health systems. We are an international community participating in medical conferences, organizations and research projects around the globe. Crowdwell is an initiative of patient advocates community. I am 1 of the first 53 European patient advocates graduates of European Patients Academy (EUPATI) on medicine R & D. 

Anyone of us can become a patient advocate at any time of our life. You are a patient advocate the moment you face a challenging health issue and start searching information about it, or you compare treatments to decide for your life, when you search for available drugs and treatments, when you know their side-effects and support others like you sharing your experience. 

Informational technology has boost our knowledge and connectivity but still there aren't the sophisticated tools we deserve in order to find trusted health information the moment we need it and crowd-source the health experience.

The problem is the underestimated and wasted clinical knowledge of the patients and their support groups. Because of the scattering and the scale of the knowledge source we need a personalized tool. Everyone of us has a part of the knowledge puzzle, bigger or smaller. The only possible way to source the collective knowledge is to make a network of our skills and needs. In order to share health information we need a trusted and transparent environment. Industry needs citizen's in-depth knowledge of quality of care. Crowdwell proposes a safe, transparent, personal translator of health experience into action for better treatments and services. For example, what if we could crowd-source side effects of drugs in real time?

Mostly financial barriers. I have to combine jobs to survive and I cannot focus on crowdwell project 100% as I wish.

I will keep finding agile ways to continue. My passion for participatory medicine and better healthcare for all is my compass.

I am an engaged patient myself. My health collapsed in 2011 during Greek crisis. I learned medicine from scratch in order to survive. I started by googling whenever my doctors didn't agree or didn't communicate with me or with each other.

I learned so much for myself by myself that in 2014 the research community trains me and other, 49 people from all over Europe without formal medical background but with the 24/7 patient knowledge in working together on new drugs and treatments. We partnership with European Medicines Agency on research projects as advisors and co-researchers. For the first time now we, patients and caregivers are qualified partners, not subjects in research. We have the opportunity to bring our sound firsthand knowledge to the table and make better medicine. 

Having said that, we often do our advocacy and advisory work as volunteers in addition to our day job, health and financial limitations and do not have enough time or support to focus and deepen our impact. Unfortunately, our deep knowledge is scattered through many different channels, untapped, unsystematic. There is no place currently to bring us, patients and patient advocates safely together, harness our knowledge and share it with you. 

We are a grass-roots community with hands-on experience in medicine and health systems answering your questions about health.
