Smart Poultry Farming Solutions (SPOFS)

 Providing services to poultry farmers through a devices that detects temperature in poultry house, scan stool, bacteria and skin infection and track progress of chickens providing results through an app. 

Its a known fact that poultry farmers face challenges and once of the most challenging part in a high mortality rate. Farmers face this challenge without a way of them to reduce it. This is were smart poultry farming comes in, to help address this challenge. This problem has affected a lot poultry farmers whether small, medium or large scale farmers in my community, make losses because of high mortality rate. This is due a number of factors: 1. To high or low temperature in the poultry house. Excessive heat and cold are very harmful for poultry birds and reduce their productivity. SPOFS will help poultry farmers handle this problem with the device to detect temperature in the poultry house by notifying the farmer when its too cold or hot through the app and it will notify the cooler in the poultry house (the cooler will help reduce the when it hot and increase the heat when its cold) . 2. Unknown disease and parasites  may cause considerable damage and great losses to poultry farmer. SPOFS has a solution to this, the device is able to scan stool and parasites and skin infections, then provide results through the application. 3.lack full knowledge on poultry farming, Some people just rush into poultry farming system without the proper information, while some got information from the wrong source. Getting the right information will help you in all area of your farm and you will get the reward on time. With this challenge SPOFS will provide knowledge to the farmers through the app in section called knowledge bank and also a forum where farmers share tips, with monitoring from an Agronomist.

A device that uses AI to detect temperature in poultry house. Detecting whether the temperature is too high, okay or too low for the chickens at each stage they are in. because during the first two weeks of the chickens they need perfect heat not too high not too low. And after they have started growing feathers, the chicks don’t need too much heat. and during the hot season it contributes to the heat it’s important that pottery have this information to help reduce mortality rate of the chickens. 
The device will also be able to scan the stool for the chickens to check if the chickens have any infections or bacteria’s and give the results.
The device will be connected to an app on the phone so this app will have a chicken progress tracker. How the tracker works is that, when a poultry famer brings the chicks, they will be two buttons with a question are the chickens in YES or NO if yes then the tracker will start tracking the progress of the chicks they are grown chickens and also at different stages giving notifications when the chickens are supposed to take their vaccines, what of feed they are supposed to eat. The app has forum for for farmers to share their experiences and knowledge bank

My solution is targeting all poultry farmers small ,medium and large poultry farmers. My solution will help grow my country economy, in a way that when poultry farmers make more profit tan losses, they will be able to sustain themselves.

My team comprises of a powerful force with similar minds working together to solve the challenge at hand. In my team we have me UI/UX designer, web developer. We have App developer and an expert in robotics and AI. Since the solution is on ideation stage , we still growing as team.

Having my mother as a small poultry farmer, I have being taught the skills of  poultry farming. I have understood the needs and I have taken the initiative to join poultry farming groups on Facebook to understand and listen to the problems poultry farmers are facing.  

My solution is solving challenges in poultry farming that they face. my solution is providing this new approach to help poultry farmers make more profits. its unfortunate that poultry farmers would find chicken dead because it was too hot or cold. and they had no idea getting a notification when such is happing will be beneficial to the poultry farmers. with this solution more poultry farmers will join because they have a guidance a their finger tips.

My goal is too see people in my city and community becoming part of the poultry business through SPOFS and also to help already existing poultry farmers grow chickens with easy. 

Our solution is a combination of a number of technologies put together to build one centralized solution, it is an IoT device that is using imaging and sensors to detect the condition of the room where chickens are, the sensors pick up the temperature in the room which works strictly with AI to tell whether the temperature is conducive for the chickens, if not it immediately sends an alert to the farmer and also changes the temperature of the room room to the one conducive for the chickens (makes it cool if it's too hot & makes it warm if it's too cold), additionally uses imaging to capture chicken droppings and advise the farmer if a deficiency is recognized, advising them on the necessary action that they should take to protect the well-being of the chickens.

Currently as we are still idea ting & testing, only 5 people are using it, but we are hoping to take it out there by march this year for piloting where we are targeting at least a 100 users to test it and give their feedback, by next year we have a target of serving at least 1000 poultry farmers

Some of the barriers that might hinder our goals for next year are:

Lack of enough resources needed to develop the technology, 

Lack of business expertise specifically client engagement

And finally limited technical skills for the development of the solution

Our business model is providing farmers with an easy to use risk management, cost optimization and remote management to tool that tracks progress of their chickens giving them good profits and enough time to do other things

As we are starting we will sustain the innovation through donations and grants from well-wishers and organisations that see the value of our solution and the impact it will be able to make , later will be able to sustain the business through monthly subscription charges to our farmers
