Kirpi project
We solve the problem of plastic pollution by recycling plastic into street benches.
Population of Bishkek city is over 1 million people. Waste is not sorted in Bishkek. All rubbish is thrown into the landfill. This landfill burns all year round, polluting the earth's atmosphere, groundwater and soil. Plastic takes up one-fifth of all landfill waste. Once in the landfill, plastic is doomed to burn with the rest of the garbage, instead of being reused. Every year the consumption of plastic only increases.
We install bins to collect plastic around the city. Regularly empty the filled bins. The plastic is taken to a plastic recycling plant. Some of the plastic is recycled into outdoor benches. We crush plastic through a shredder. The crushed plastic is melted through an extruder and poured into a lath shape. We cool the rail. We collect the cooled slats in a finished bench.
Our project helps the residents of Bishkek. We are beautifying the city by giving them benches. We prevent pollution, maintain a favorable environment for human life. In addition, we buy some of the plastic from people who earn money by collecting waste. Basically, these are low-income people, the homeless. In addition, we work with people and hold events to promote an eco-friendly lifestyle.
Our project exists for 3 years. In the beginning, we opened recycling points. We helped the beneficiary open a recycling center in the city of Tokmok. Then we started to develop a recycling project. Now we have a workshop. Students and schoolchildren work in our team. We conduct trainings at schools, universities, arrange cleaning of territories around the city. We are active members of the social entrepreneurship ecosystem in our country. We carry out urban interventions.
We investigated the situation with landfills in the northern territory of Kyrgyzstan. There are many garbage dumps, they are constantly increasing in size. People living near the landfill complain about air quality.

In Kyrgyzstan, plastic is mostly not recycled. They only crush plastic and sell recyclables abroad. We do not produce anything from recycled materials. Our project is innovative, as we propose to start recycling plastic in Kyrgyzstan. This will improve the industry in our country and open up new jobs. In addition, no one made outdoor benches from recycled plastic. This may cause a newsworthy promotion of waste sorting.
