Renewable Power in Rural Areas
This is a simple way to bring power and electricity into rural areas.
The problem that this solution attempts to solve is that of lack of electricity in rural areas. India is a country with an abundance of natural resources but a large population has inhibited our overall development as a country. Many areas of our country still have no access to electricity or power. The people in these areas live in the dark, both figuratively and literally, isolated in a sense from the rest of the world. This solution attempts to provide a way to reduce this phenomenon in our country and bring some light into these people's lives.
Our solution is simple but varies with the topography of the village. In areas with flowing rivers and water supply, our solution aims at a small hydro-electric power generator connected to multiple houses throughout the neighborhood. The electricity will be funneled directly by the hydroelectric generator into the homes of the people for use in daily activities. In these situations, we aim to secure a turbine directly underneath the river flowing near the village. As the water pushes the rotational blades of the turbine, the generator will funnel electricity directly to villages. However, as this requires a lot of resources, our solution is such that the power generated is stored in a PSH. With time, the stored power will increase and can be drawn upon for use.
Our solution impacts the people living in impoverished areas of India. These people often have no access to water, electricity, or the basic amenities that us living in urban areas consider a normality. Our norm is their luxury and with our solution, we aim to, with time, help the rural poor.
Our team consists of 3 members. We have volunteered at several shelters and visited several villages to witness the suffering of these people firsthand. Our solution is not necessarily an innovative one but we are made unique by the fact that we truly care about the people we wish to serve. Our ultimate goal is to make electrical power readily accessible all people of India.
We have done extensive research online and met with several people in the villages affected by lack of electricity. We have engaged potential investors in our designs as well as talked with people who are affected about our solution and have been met with encouraging responses.
- Other: Addressing an unmet social, environmental, or economic need not covered in the four dimensions above.
- Concept: An idea being explored for its feasibility to build a product, service, or business model based on that idea.
What makes our solution innovative is its simplicity. It is not based on complex thoughts or ideas but is simple in its execution.
We hope to have prepared a working prototype by the end of this year.
Our solution's core technology relies on hydropower.

Our solution currently exists as a simple but well researched thought experiment. By the end of this year, we hope to be helping at least one village.
Financial barriers are the most dangerous to our solution, but we have found potential investors who might be willing to fund our projects.
We are currently not partnering with any organization.
