COMMSERVE - Igniting Passion into Action
A community based initiative that empowers underserved youth by identifying and nurturing passions, developing entrepreneurship skills and improving their communities through profitable projects and businesses
The problem of being underserved among youth in disadvantaged communities is multi-faceted and affects many aspects of their lives. These young people often face poverty, lack of access to education and training, and limited social and economic opportunities. These challenges lead to high rates of school dropout, unemployment, and poverty among young people in these communities. They also lack the passion, purpose, and skills necessary to succeed. This can lead to feelings of hopelessness and despair, early marriages, drug abuse, lack of civic engagement and wasted potential. Commserve addresses these issues by providing young people with the tools and support they need to identify and nurture their passions, develop their entrepreneurship skills, and create profitable projects and businesses that can improve their communities.
Additionally, being underserved also leads to a lack of responsible citizens as young people may not have the proper guidance and support to understand their roles and responsibilities in their communities. This can result in a lack of civic engagement and a lack of participation in community activities, which can further exacerbate the problems faced by disadvantaged communities.
Furthermore, being underserved also widens the gap of undiscovered potentials among young people as they may not have the opportunity to explore their talents and passions, resulting in a waste of potential and untapped resources. This can have a detrimental effect on both the individual and the community as a whole, as these young people may not be able to reach their full potential and contribute to the growth and development of their communities.
To sum up, the problem of being underserved among youth in disadvantaged communities is a complex and multifaceted issue that affects a wide range of individuals and communities. It leads to lack of passion and purpose, lack of entrepreneurship skills and opportunities, early marriages, drug abuse, lack of civic engagement, wasted potential and a lack of responsible citizens. These negative outcomes have a significant impact on both the individual and the community as a whole. Commserve addresses these issues by providing young people with the tools and support they need to identify and nurture their passions, develop their entrepreneurship skills, and create profitable projects and businesses that can improve their communities.
Commserve is a community-based initiative that empowers underserved youth by identifying and nurturing their passions, developing their entrepreneurship skills and creating profitable projects and businesses that can improve their communities. Our program addresses various negative outcomes of being underserved such as lack of passion and purpose, lack of entrepreneurship skills and opportunities, early marriages, drug abuse, lack of civic engagement, wasted potential and lack of responsible citizens.
We use a three-step approach: Passion Identification, Mindset Transformation and Entrepreneurship Skills Development. First, we help young people identify their passions, interests and talents, which is a key step in helping them find purpose and direction in their lives. Then, we help them develop a growth mindset and overcome limiting beliefs, which can be an obstacle to achieving their goals. Finally, we provide them with practical skills and resources to start their own businesses or create sustainable projects that can generate income and help improve their communities.
Our program utilizes mentoring, training, and resources to deliver its services. We also focus on sustainability, monitoring and evaluation, scalability, community engagement, online and offline delivery, and follow-up support. We form partnerships with local businesses, organizations, and government agencies to provide additional resources and support for the program, as well as provide valuable networking opportunities for the young people involved.
Commserve serves the underserved youth between the ages of 15 and 29 who either dropped out from school or lacked the chance to do anything using their passions. These young people come from disadvantaged communities, where they face a range of challenges such as poverty, lack of educational and economic opportunities, and limited access to resources and support.
The target population of Commserve is currently underserved in multiple ways. They may lack the guidance and support they need to identify and nurture their passions, develop their entrepreneurship skills, and create profitable projects and businesses that can improve their communities. Additionally, they may face barriers to accessing education and economic opportunities, which can lead to a lack of civic engagement and a lack of participation in community activities.
The solution of Commserve addresses the needs of this population by providing them with the tools and support they need to identify and nurture their passions, develop their entrepreneurship skills, and create profitable projects and businesses that can improve their communities. The program utilizes a variety of techniques and technologies to deliver its services, such as mentoring, training, and resources. The mentoring sessions are designed to provide young people with guidance and support as they navigate the challenges of starting their own businesses and creating sustainable projects. The training sessions are designed to teach young people the skills and knowledge they need to succeed in business, including financial management, marketing, and customer service. The resources provided by the program include access to funding, business support services, and networking opportunities.
The solution of Commserve will have a direct and meaningful impact on the lives of the target population by providing them with the opportunity to identify and nurture their passions, develop their entrepreneurship skills, and create profitable projects and businesses that can improve their communities. This will help them find purpose and direction in their lives, overcome limiting beliefs, and become self-sufficient and responsible citizens. It will also help them to improve their communities through their profitable projects and businesses.

We have taken several steps to understand the needs of the population we want to serve. Our target population is the underserved youth between the ages of 15 and 29 who either dropped out from school or lacked the chance to do anything using their passions, and come from disadvantaged communities.
To understand their needs, we conducted a survey and a pilot program in 5 wards within the Iringa region. We also shared our idea with Small Industries Domestic Organization (SIDO) and community development officers. Through this survey and pilot program, we were able to gain valuable insights into the needs of the target population, such as lack of guidance and support to identify and nurture their passions, lack of entrepreneurship skills and opportunities, early marriages, drug abuse, lack of civic engagement, wasted potential and lack of responsible citizens.
We also engaged potential users in the design and development of our solution. We worked closely with community development officers and local government to reach and engage with the target population, and provided them with the opportunity to participate in the pilot program. Through this engagement, we were able to gain a better understanding of the needs of the target population and design our solution to better meet those needs.
Overall, we have taken a comprehensive approach to understand the needs of the population we want to serve. We have conducted research with potential users, engaged with existing organizations working on this problem, and actively sought input from potential users in the design and development of our solution.
- Other: Addressing an unmet social, environmental, or economic need not covered in the four dimensions above.
- Prototype: A venture or organization building and testing its product, service, or business model
Our solution, Commserve, is innovative in several ways. Firstly, our approach is holistic and addresses multiple negative outcomes that come from being underserved. Instead of focusing on a single issue, we provide young people with the tools and support they need to identify and nurture their passions, develop their entrepreneurship skills, and create profitable projects and businesses that can improve their communities. This comprehensive approach is designed to empower youth and create positive change in disadvantaged communities.
Secondly, our solution is community-based and focuses on community engagement. We encourage community engagement and participation in the program, both by the young people involved and by members of the community. This can help to build support for the program and ensure that it is meeting the needs of the community.
Thirdly, our solution is scalable, sustainable and includes follow-up support. We develop a plan to scale the program to reach more young people and communities, perhaps by replicating the program in other locations, regularly monitor and evaluate the progress and impact of the program to identify areas for improvement and ensure that the program is meeting its goals and objectives, and provide mentoring and coaching after the program's completion to help the youth to sustain and grow their businesses.
Overall, we believe that Commserve has the potential to be catalytic in several ways. It has the potential to change the market by providing a comprehensive solution that addresses multiple negative outcomes of being underserved, and empowers young people to become self-sufficient and responsible citizens who can improve their communities. By providing a community-based, sustainable, and scalable solution, we hope to enable broader positive impacts from others in this space by inspiring them to adopt similar approaches and replicate the program in other locations.
Our impact goal for the next year is to empower at least 100 underserved youth between the ages of 15 and 29 who either dropped out from school or lacked the chance to do anything using their passions in Iringa region, Tanzania. Through our program, we aim to provide them with the tools and support they need to identify and nurture their passions, develop their entrepreneurship skills, and create profitable projects and businesses that can improve their communities.
To achieve this goal, we plan to implement the following strategies:
Scale up our program by replicating it in more wards within Iringa region and other wards in Tanz This will increase our reach and enable us to empower more young people.
Establish partnerships with local businesses, organizations, and government agencies to provide additional resources and support for the program, as well as provide valuable networking opportunities for the young people involved.
Provide online and offline delivery options to the program to increase its accessibility and reachability.
Develop and implement a monitoring and evaluation system to measure the progress and impact of the program on the target population.
Provide follow-up support to the youth after the completion of the program to help them sustain and grow their businesses.
Continuously evaluate and adapt the program based on feedback from the youth and the community to ensure that it is meeting its goals and objectives.
We believe that by achieving this impact goal, we will empower 100 underserved youth to become self-sufficient and responsible citizens who can improve their communities, and have a transformational impact on their lives
The core technology that powers our solution is a combination of mentoring, training, and resources.
Mentoring is a key component of our solution, as it provides young people with guidance and support as they navigate the challenges of starting their own businesses and creating sustainable projects. Our mentoring program is designed to provide one-on-one support to the youth, and is led by experienced mentors who have successfully started their own businesses or have experience working with underserved youth.
Training is another key component of our solution. We provide training sessions that teach young people the skills and knowledge they need to succeed in business, such as financial management, marketing, and customer service. We also provide training on how to start and run a business and how to create sustainable projects.
Resources is the last key component of our solution. We provide young people with access to funding, business support services, and networking opportunities. This can help them to get their businesses and projects off the ground and ensure that they have the support they need to succeed.
Our solution also utilizes online and offline delivery options, which allows for flexibility in reaching the target population. Additionally, we develop and implement a monitoring and evaluation system to measure the progress and impact of the program on the target population, and provide follow-up support to the youth after the completion of the program to help them sustain and grow their businesses.
Overall, our solution relies on a combination of mentoring, training, and resources to empower the youth to identify and nurture their passions, develop their entrepreneurship skills, and create profitable projects and businesses that can improve their communities.

As we are in the testing phase, we started working with 10 youth, two from each ward with Iringa municipal. With the help of Community Development officer from other regions, they say its one of the b best initiative for the world to harness potentials of underserved youth. In the next year we are planning to work with 50 youth.
During the testing of our idea, we have come across with different barriers, as follows
- Cultural barriers, Parents have no faith to any organization that tends to help their children, as for Iringa they say 'Ndimgaya sida" which means I am full of everything I don't need your help, so to some points the parents with this belief creates a barrier for us to reach the targeted beneficiaries.
- Financial, As when we started testing our idea we used our pocket money, we found that its not only about paying the trainer but also buying food for beneficiaries and transport fare, also buying them tools and equipment's for practice
.Up to now we have one partner who is Small Industries Domestic Organization (SIDO), They offer us a free working space and business trainings
