Suunbox

600 million Africans live without access to electricity, $ 32 billion/year spent on charging and lighting by African households, and Only 35% of people have access to an internet connection in Africa. all these issues prove that access to connectivity and energy and the preservation of the environment are major challenges for urban cities in Africa. So we invented the Suunbox which is a connected solar charging station for mobile phones, which provides free energy, internet and local information. Our connected terminals also have built-in sensors for collecting and analyzing atmospheric data. Suunbox connected solar kiosks provide free Internet and green energy to outdoor public spaces that people visit daily, thus enhancing urban living by making cities smarter and more sustainable. Our mission is to improve people's experience in public spaces and provide them with energy and connectivity on the move.

Our project guarantees free access to sustainable energy and the internet. 600 million Africans live without access to electricity, $ 32 billion/year spent on charging and lighting by African households, and Only 35% of people have access to an internet connection in Africa. Connectivity and energy are at the heart of the 21st century economy. Suunbox invests in civic innovation by bringing utility to the urban landscape. Suunbox is totally free for cities, taxpayers and users. Our project is in line with the Sustainable Development Goals, which aims to ensure universal access to modern energy services, improve energy efficiency and increase the use of renewable energy sources.

Our project targets mobile phone users in Africa. 

Mobile in Africa is more than just a communication channel. It is also a tool for working, managing financial transactions, entertainment, etc. Mobile usage continues to grow in Africa. The GSMA tells us, for example, that the continent had nearly 468.9 million mobile subscribers in 2018, while Wearesocial for its part told us in January 2018 that we had 1.040 billion mobile connections.
Africa is positioning itself as a continent with one of the strongest mobile usage rates (almost 80%) with a market growth rate estimated at + 4% compared to 2017.

The need for energy and the internet is crucial in Africa for all these populations and our project helps to fight the digital divide and offer free access to clean energy.

Suunbox is a connected solar charging station for mobile phones, which provides free energy, internet and local information. Our connected kiosks also have built-in sensors for collecting and analyzing atmospheric data. 

CHARGING SERVICE: Telephones and various types of portable devices can be charged 24/7, with integrated universal cables using only solar energy.

WIFI HOTSPOT: The Suunbox kiosk is a wifi hotspot that provides free internet connection. 

LOCAL INFORMATION: thanks to its LED screens the terminals can display useful local information for citizens

ENVIRONMENTAL SENSOR: The terminal collects relevant data via integrated sensors (environment, gas, particles, meters), to have an overall image of the city's air, the ambient quality and the movement of people.

Suunbox kiosks help reduce the digital divide by providing free internet access, providing clean energy for free, and collecting and retrieving environmental data.

Our solution of solar connected terminals allows the populations to access a clean energy and the Internet and that without having to pay thanks to our business model based on advertising.

our solution uses photovoltaic technology to supply electrical energy to the terminal components and to recharge the telephones. Our solution uses the internet of things thanks to smart sensors integrated in the terminals to disseminate environmental data on our web platform and our mobile application.

with the prototype we could have a hundred regular monthly users; we expect to have a hundred thousand in one year and in the next few years we expect a million users

1) Grow to impact at least 0.5million families, educators and students in low-income, minority, immigrant populations in the US and beyond 

2) Engagement: TalkingPoints will facilitate 5 million conversations between schools/teachers and parents 

3) Product and technology: Fully build out the current prototype version of the multilingual engagement platform with personalized nudges and content for educators and teachers -- by refining the NLP and machine learning models on topics of conversation and personalization of content 

4) Content: Establish content partnerships for parent/teacher education materials 

the main barriers are financing and access to technological equipment

we will use crowdfunding platforms to access funding. and we will develop foreign or local partnerships to gain access to state-of-the-art technological equipment for our kiosks

our team is multi-disciplinary with expertise in design thinking, project management and innovation, expertise in solar energy, industrial design, and finance.

we have our partner ivoire messina who is in charge of manufacturing the hulls of our kiosks according to our specifications.

our ivory light partner is responsible for the supply and installation of all solar components in our kiosks

our business model is based on advertising, so we have entered into a partnership with an advertising agency that will find advertisers wanting to associate their image or broadcast their advertising on our terminals which are innovative marketing supports.

We have three sources of advertising revenue:

cladding of kioks to the identity and colors of the marks. 

Broadcast advertising spots on the LCD of the terminals.

 Internet connections are interspersed with advertising.

Through Solve’s global network, we want to learn more from and meet with potential partners. We're looking to grow and Solve's connections will be benefit to ensuring access to a broader pool of technical/financial/strategic resources.

we are looking for a partnership with companies manufacturing solar solutions: solar batteries, solar panels, regulators; We are looking for companies specializing in Internet of Things for sensors and software, companies to develop the cloud platform for the management of all terminal sensor data. We are also looking for companies operating in the field of intelligent internet routers

we plan to provide our terminals with AI technology for securing terminals, for the recognition and authentication of users of the terminals, for locking and unlocking lockers, for the dissemination of information on the screen according to the events to near the terminals

the price will allow us to install several solar terminals in public places to allow people to benefit from free information, internet and clean energy services
