Smart Water Purification System
A water tank that purifies unsanitary/dirty/salty water from any water source(i.e. Wells, rivers).
In my community, majorly in rural districts, there is limited clean water supply therefore people resort to using water from the Zambezi river and Wells. This water tends to be very salty/unsanitary and sometimes becomes unbearable to drink.
Global statistics
Cholera- According to https://www.cdc.gov, cholera is still a significant cause of illness and death in many African countries and its estimated that 1.3 to 4 million people world wide get cholera each year and 21,000 to 143,000 die from it.
Cameroon is among several countries in west and central Africa experiencing recurrent cholera outbreaks. Between October 2021 and April 2022,a total of 6,652 suspected cases including 134 deaths were reported. https://www.who.int
Hepatitis A(HAV)- an estimate of 1.5million cases of Hepatitis A virus infections every year worldwide, with low socio-economic profiles and lack of access to clean drinking water being the primary contributing factor. Https://jglobalbiosecurity.com
The user has an option to choose how many litres they need(to conserve water) on the switchboard powered by solar, once they choose a valve opens allowing water to flow from the source(unsanitary water). As the water goes into the tank, it passes through various filtering components(sediments(pebbles), gravel, activated charcoal, biologically activated soil, cotton mesh. respectively). Once the filtering is done the user can then open the tap and get clean(filtered) water.
Rural residents because they have to drink salty/ unsanitary water.
Farmers because they have limited to no access of quality water for their livestock and some of their crops.
I am perfect for delivering this solution because I’ve experienced it first hand therefore am very passionate and have an understanding on how this product will positively impact the people in my community and other countries that face the same issues(waterborne diseases and unsanitary water supply).
I have Volunteered for redcross therefore I can attest that I have good people skills and I have a drive for change for my community.
I have done adequate research and the potential users played an important part in my product development and how to make it easier to use and in what ways I can make the device affordable hence it uses more organic and much simpler methods of filtering. The potential users have immensely made this device so much better than the original concept(am super grateful for that)
- Improving healthcare access and health outcomes; and reducing and ultimately eliminating health disparities (Health)
- Concept: An idea being explored for its feasibility to build a product, service, or business model based on that idea.
My concept is innovative because its something new that can make a positive impact on an issue that is often overlooked.
I want to makes things better for my community and hopefully worldwide aswell. I want to see change in health statistics. If I don't get this opportunity I wish to find and create something even much better.
The technology is low tech but I think it could be advanced as it grows and expands(more can be done to it).
- Software and Mobile Applications
- Namibia
I expect my device to atleast reach 100+ people when launching.
financial and technical
I will immensely change the health standards of the people or communities I will serve.
These communities will need clean water that can be consumed without harm and it will be all natural Purifification that won't have any negative impact on their health.
I plan to get as many sponsorships or donations(as much as I can). Find potential and good investors who have the vision and have an understanding of how this changes the community and maybe globally.
