ANGELS OF HOPE SPECIAL CHILDREN`S CENTRE
Improving communication between care givers and children with moderate intellectual disability with aim of reducing sexual abuse and preventing early teen age pregnancies.
Research done by UNFPA shows that person with disability below the age of 18 years are four times to be victims of violence and abuse young person with intellectual disabilities especially girls are at the risk .
ANGELS OF HOPE SPECIAL CHILDREN`S CENTRE took the initiative to dig dipper in the settlement of Mathare and to our finding 200 children with intellectual disability have inadequate knowledge on sexual reproductive health and are victims of sexual abuse. with this information we look dipper and identified that communication was a major problem because they was limited awareness on how to pass information on sexual education and prevent sexual abuse . they feel left out and mis understood.
One of our team member named FLORENCE DOREEN specialized in community development she was able to target 3 special schools and out of the three schools five intellectual teen fall to be a victim of sexual abuse and 89% of the student are not aware of sexual education .
we work to impact the moderate intellectual children with this life skills sexual education to help them be aware on their sexual reproductive health and rights. More to that we would love to boost the relationship between care givers to enable them interact freely with the society around them.
ANGELS OF HOPE SPECIAL CHILDREN`S CENTRE has come up with a communication channel known as the FABULOUS training model this model helps the care givers to communicate effectively with moderate intellectual children with the aim of reducing sexual abuse and preventing teen pregnancies .
