As a team, we have taken a number of steps to understand the needs of the population we want to serve with our educational assistant, Msomi. One of the primary steps we have taken is conducting a survey with over 300 students to gather insights about their needs and preferences when it comes to educational assistance. The results of this survey have provided us with valuable information about what students are looking for in an educational assistant, and have helped us to identify areas where Msomi may be able to make a positive impact.
In addition to conducting a survey, we are also working with an organization that deals with education technology to gain access to additional resources and expertise. By collaborating with this organization, we have been able to benefit from their knowledge and experience in developing and delivering innovative education solutions.
Overall, our efforts to understand the needs of the population we want to serve have helped us to develop a better understanding of what students and educational stakeholders are looking for in an educational assistant, and have informed our development of Msomi to ensure that it meets these needs in an effective and meaningful way.

Msomi is currently in a private beta phase, serving a total of 15 students and 2 teachers. However, our plans for scaling up are well thought through. Our goal for mid-year is to pilot Msomi in 3 schools, reaching approximately 2,500 students. This will give us an idea of how the solution performs in real-world scenarios, and it will help us identify any issues that need to be addressed before a full launch.
Once we have successfully completed the pilot phase, our goal is to expand to 7 more schools early next year, reaching between 8,000 and 15,000 students and at least 300 educators. We believe that this is a realistic and achievable goal, and we have a solid plan in place to make it happen. We have already begun to establish relationships with schools, and we have a team in place to support the implementation of the solution.
As a platform Msomi could face the following challenges in accomplishing its goals for the next year
Financial barriers: Developing and launching a platform like Msomi can be a costly endeavor, and obtaining sufficient funding to cover the costs of research, development, staffing, and marketing may be a challenge. Additionally, there may be ongoing costs associated with maintaining and updating the system and its infrastructure.
Technical barriers: Msomi requires advanced technical expertise in areas such as natural language processing, machine learning, computer vision, Software, and AI engineering in general. Obtaining the necessary technical talent and resources to develop and launch the platform may be difficult.
Legal barriers: There are always legal and compliance issues to launching any system and not just Msomi in a country like Tanzania. For example, there are regulations around data privacy, intellectual property, liability, licenses, and a lot of paperwork that need to be considered and complied with.
Market barriers: There could be issues with the adoption of Msomi within the education market in Tanzania. For example, since there is a lack of proper awareness and understanding of the benefits of using such tools, schools may be reluctant to adopt the technology.

Msomi's business model is a combination of a freemium and a pay-per-use model. For individual students and instructors, the service will be free for general usage but features like feedback on assignments like essays will have a free limit benchmark. Users will have to pay if the set limit is exceeded. Service providers who wish to use and integrate Msomi with their services will have to pay per request to make the service available to their users.
This combination will allow Msomi to provide access to the core features of the service for free, which will help to attract a large user base and generate revenue from those who are willing to pay for additional services. Additionally, the pay-per-use model for service providers will enable Msomi to generate revenue from organizations that use the service on behalf of their users.
This business model is a flexible one, it allows Msomi to reach a wide range of users with different needs and budgets, and it allows it to generate revenue while providing access to its service to as many students and educators as possible.
Msomi's path to financial sustainability is to use a combination of different funding sources. Initially, Msomi aims to operate on sustained donations and grants. This will help to cover the costs of research, development, staffing, and marketing during the early stages of the project. This will help Msomi to establish itself and gain a foothold in the market while minimizing the need to generate revenue from the service.
As Msomi grows and becomes stable, it will shift to selling services to generate revenue. This could include offering a subscription-based model, a pay-per-use model, and/or a partnership-based model. This will allow Msomi to generate a steady stream of revenue and become financially self-sustaining over time.
This approach allows Msomi to focus on its mission in the initial stage while not compromising on the quality of service it provides, and as it grows and gets stable it will be able to generate revenue while maintaining its mission.
