Solar Chimney
Solar Radiations falls makes the hot air rises up and cold air falls down makes turbine rotates.
Energy and powered devices are an integral part of society. Humanity's earliest days saw the
discovery of fire through wood combustion, and the use of charcoal for smelting metals dates
back as early as 5000 BC. Powered devices using natural energy sources such as water and
wind were introduced by the Ancient Greeks and were commonly used until the 18 th
century steam engine revolutionized the way devices could be powered. Various natural oils
were used for a range of purposes, such as whale oil for lamps. The Industrial Revolution led
to the massive use of coal as fuel, and the extraction of petroleum and various other oils
became extremely important with the advent of internal combustion engines. Electrical
power, also based on fossil fuels, became widespread at the end of the 19 th century but it is
one of the sources that cause pollution and great damage to the environment, and the
frequent use of these sources, this will also lead to its depletion and thus its depletion.
Therefore, we must start finding new ideas for energy production from clean renewable
sources that do not harm the environment and cannot be exhausted by nature, such as the
exploitation of solar energy, temperature, movement of air or water, etc. Therefore, our
project aims to exploit solar energy, heat, wind speed, and pressure to generate electricity
from cheap raw materials instead of using expensive raw materials that require high
technology such as solar cells. Our project aims to achieve the greatest benefit from the sun's
rays at different times and seasons to produce the largest amount of electricity by using
inexpensive materials such as glass or transparent plastic to preserve the heat generated
from the sun's rays and a change in the wind temperature under the glass or transparent
plastic and thus a decrease in its density, which leads to It enters the pipe in the middle of
the project and generates the turbine and that all has many advantages like
1
. The ground (soil) underneath the collector of a solar chimney power plant acts as a natural
energy storage mechanism.
2
. Construction materials for such a plant are relatively inexpensive and readily
3
. The plant operates using simple technology. Except for, possibly, the turbo generator, the
technology of a solar chimney power plant will not become outdated easily.
4
. The plant does not require any non renewable fuels
5
. At suitable plant sites such as desert areas, solar radiation is a very reliable input energy
source.
6
. The plant has a long operating life (at least 80 to 100 years).
7
. Solar chimney power plants do not require any cooling water.
8
. Low maintenance cost.
but like anything, it also has drawbacks like
1
They must be built on a very large scale. Due to their size, the capital cost is high.
2
The power output is not constant throughout the day or year. Further development may
however reduce or even eliminate these disadvantages.
3
The construction of the plant requires huge quantities of materials.
Our solution is the solar powered chimney which is the best alternative source of energy to their cells because it gives near results to the results of the traditional solar cells with
less cost than it.
solar powered chimneys are emerging as a commonly utilized building design element
that works to build up comfortable environments inside an infrastructure. A chimney power plant is a passive solar heating and cooling structure.
The process of heating a space using a solar chimney is simple. When solar radiation hits the side of the chimney, the column of air inside the chimney is heated. If the top exterior vents of the chimney are closed, the heated air is forced back into the living space. This provides a type of convective air heating. Here are some key advantages of a chimney power plant over conventional systems:
–
Easier to design
–
Lower cost of power generation
–
More reliable & lesser running components
–
Easier maintenance and overhaul
–
No environmental pollution
Our project is very important for human beings because of the important role of electricity in
our life, and because it s a perfect alternative source of electricity to traditional solar cells.
Humans can use our project on a large scale and benefit from its outputs as electricity at a
very low cost compared to the traditional electricity in our homes.
Our prototype can be applied as we have seen in the previous sections as we built it according
to a drawing scale which is ( 1:10 ), and we can build it at places having high temperatures or
sunny places in general.
And, we have concluded that by increasing the dimensions of the prototype the results
become more perfect.
As we all know climate change is one of the most dangerous challenges that faces the whole world especially Egypt . So, we got a solution for this problem to try to solve it . All of the members have a vital role and all of them considered to be very important for our team work. all of us has experience in team work as our school make our entire life like this and encourage us to be co-operative with each other. All of our team members have a good experience in voluntary work as we all participated in many charities like ( life makers , Resala)
There is no doubt that Egypt suffers from energy problems which makes it incapable of producing electricity, running cars, travelling and all these things which depend on energy sources.
All of us know that life is impossible without energy because our daily life depends on the electricity, heat and light energy.
The needs of the population we want to serve?
- We can serve people by applying our prototype in large scale to produce electricity.
- We can serve people in the point of financial because our solution which is solar chimney is cheaper than traditional solar cells which makes us save money.
- Solar cells work in day only and at sunny conditions, But our prototype works in day and at night by adding the liquid below the prototype which stores the heat energy in it and release it at nigh which makes it works approximately all over the day.
- Our solution can be applied as a large scale and we ca depend on it as a main source of energy even there is sun light.
- Improving financial and economic opportunities for all (Economic Prosperity)
- Prototype: A venture or organization building and testing its product, service, or business model
The problem, in short, is that permanent, clean solar energy is not exploited in various forms and is exploited only through the solar cell to produce electricity. Therefore, we thought of an innovative way to exploit it, and we reached our solution, which is the solar chimney that relies on solar radiation to produce electricity in large quantities, at a cheap price, and with a wide range and long-term. Therefore, we see that the idea of our project will change the orientation of countries to produce electricity from solar energy through solar cells to the idea of a solar chimney that will provide electricity at a cheap price, which will change the market activity in investing in energy production projects.
In the next year, we plan to search for an investor or a competent authority to finance our project with the funds required to build the project on a large scale, which guarantees the success of the project. We must change some raw materials with stronger, high-efficiency and cheaper ones in price, and this makes the project have a longer term and much higher efficiency. There is a second plan besides the first. It is adding modifications to the project, such as adding water or oil tanks to absorb heat during the day and release it at night to make the project work during the day depending on sunlight, temperature and wind speed, and at night it works depending on the heat coming out of the water or oil tanks, and this increases the efficiency of the project and the amount of electricity generated.
Till now, our project still by only simple equipment and does not rely on technology, as we said before our aim is to serve the poor countries that suffer from a shortage of resources and shortage of energy so we thought about something that generates energy with good and enough amounts and also with relatively low price, but our next plan when our project reach advanced stages and a lot of countries start to use our project we will alternate something like turbine or make some sensors to control the movement of air inside the pipe and also facilitate the process and make it easy, but till now approximately we do not use any technology because we need our project to be with the lowest price as we can.
- Big Data
- GIS and Geospatial Technology
- Manufacturing Technology
- Materials Science
- Egypt, Arab Rep.
Right now our aim is only to serve people or countries such as arid areas or areas that have difficulty getting anything and also have a shortage in energy resources, but we expect that next year we will serve a lot of countries in Africa and poor areas also the big countries can benefit from this project to increase their resources.
First, when we thought about this innovative idea for the project, we agreed that this project would only be applied to a small field, but when we saw the great results achieved by the project with small dimensions, just a few centimeters, then we thought to develop our idea on a wide field to be applied across countries, and we wanted to apply it in Egypt these days. Because the direction of Egypt in this period is focused on rationalizing energy and how to exploit simple materials to generate large amounts of energy in order to meet the needs of the country with a large area, but we are facing some problems because we want to build this model with very large dimensions and see the actual results at that time, but the cost of the project that will be built on an area It costs a bit too much for the four of us in the team to pay. We hope next year to have a good sponsoring company that will finance and support the project so that we can set up a large-scale project and see the actual results of this project.
