SALUS
SALUS is a project which uses some hardware like lasers and a Raspberry Pi programmed in python to inform home or businesses owners when intruders enter their property.
The main aim of SALUS is to solve the problem of high crime rate and insecurity which is being faced in Nigeria and many other African and third world countries.
Insecurity is very rampant in my community and in Nigeria as a whole with Nigeria being ranked as 12th most dangerous country in the world in 2022 and as the 9th most dangerous country for tourists in Africa for tourists in 2022.
Tens of thousands of Nigerian and tourists are affected by crime in Nigeria annually and that number is expected to grow due to the upcoming elections in Nigeria and the economic recession the world is facing now
The factors contributing to to insecurity in Nigeria are the high population , illiteracy, unemployment, poverty, embezzlement of funds by government officials and lack of access to educational and technological resources
The consequences of insecurity in Nigeria are low life expectancy; low quality of life and even death unwillingness of foreign investors to come to or set up businesses in Nigeria and a loss of talented individuals due to high immigration rate.

My teammates are fortunate enough to not have been victims of violent crimes but our experiences and the goings on in our community have put this project together to create a better Nigeria for our generation and the ones to come
I have conducted several interviews with my mom who is a Corrections officer in a prison and my I have emailed the Nigerian private security outfits Technocrime Ltd and Synergy Guards to ask for an opportunity to tour their facilities and the problems they face in this field but I am yet to get a response
