Nicetyfarm Technologies
A centralized real-time system that is able to monitor crop needs, manage water resources, and crop stresses, and secure farmers' yield
Small and medium-scale farmers in rural areas are facing an uphill battle with limited resources, outdated methods, and a lack of real-time information, leading to crop and animal losses, decreased yields, and reduced profits. They struggle to predict weather patterns, manage water resources, control pests and diseases, secure their farms, and access financial services, making it difficult for them to sustain their livelihoods. As a result, these farmers are not only facing financial difficulties but also putting the food security and the future of the agricultural industry at risk. We all rely on a farmer for our meals, but yield in Agriculture has really gone down because of the effects of climate change on Agriculture. Over 70% of farmers in Africa rely on Rainy water for their agricultural activities, they do not know how to manage the other water resources they have, but with the change in weather, they are making very huge losses as they have low yields and lose a lot of resources. They do not know their soil and crop needs, hence they over-apply chemicals or water the chemicals aren't even the right chemicals the crop needs, suffocating the crops and also contaminating the soil, which in the end also contributes to greenhouse emissions and finally climate change. Not forgetting the pests and diseases that have come because of climate change (change in weather) and by the time they realize their crop has been infested, half of their crop/animals would have been destroyed already. As if that's not enough, even after getting low yields, thieves steal from them as their harvest & animals y are still looking for a market for it. Because of these challenges, farmers' yield is very low, hence most countries' food security has become weaker making it very difficult for an ordinary human being to access a meal which is why over 3 million children under the age of 5 die because of hunger and malnutrition every year in sub-Saharan Africa alone (WORLD FOOD PROGRAM). Farmers are making huge losses, the Governments are spending millions of money for relief, which is leading to the increase in poverty levels in countries in Africa and other countries out there. In Zambia, over 60% of families live under the international poverty line of 1.9USD/day
We at Nicetyfarm Technologies are redefining Sustainable Agriculture.

Our team is a youth team, that is very passionate about solving most challenges that the community is facing using technology and innovation. It is a team of which 75% of it are farmers that understands the challenges that farmers face. It is a really diverse team with expertise in Agronomy, Animal science, data science, Software engineering, product designing, and machine learning to mention a few. I personally who is a farmer, have worked for a Government organization (Food Reserve Agency -FRA) that is in charge of stabilizing the nation's food security and support citizens with food in critical times, where I got to work directly with my fellow farmers on a daily basis, getting to understand them well.
Justine Imasiku - Software/Hardware Engineer & Innovator (7 years experience)
Sharon Zulu - Product designer and Machine learning Expert (4 years experience)
Marriage Sikalume - Data scientist (4 years experience)
Enerst Inyambo - Agriculture specialist ( 6 years experience)
As mentioned above, 75% of the team members are farmers which gives an advantage in getting to know and understand our potential users. Even so, our solution is continuously being developed on a user feedback experience. We take it to the users, get feedback, based on their experience and results then improve it and this is a continuous process.
- Taking action to combat climate change and its impacts (Sustainability)
- Prototype: A venture or organization building and testing its product, service, or business model
The solution is very innovative looking at what is being given to the farmers in Africa currently. It is a centralized system that provides real-time information and monitoring tools to help farmers manage their crops and animals more effectively in the face of unpredictable weather patterns, Innovations that are providing data-driven farming are not in real-time a farmer has to wait for some time for them to know if their crop if infested or not and it's very expensive because these solutions rely on expensive devices which are expensive for them to adopt. Our solution is cheap & very accessible, as most farmers can just use their very mobile phone cameras to scan their crops and animals also acknowledging the fact that even those that are not literate can use it because it is in several languages that provide also audio output. And when it comes to the water system, it is automatic and does not inconvenience the farmer
Our goal for this year is to have not less than 5000 farmers that are proud and happy about their yield and farming style, them adapting to climate-smart agriculture techniques and technologies. Currently, farmers are complaining and saying they are only farming for survival, our goal is to change the narrative, making it possible that people to admire farming. And most importantly We aim to make food cheap and easily accessible for ordinary human beings reducing the mortality rate caused by hunger and malnutrition. We will achieve this through our continuous efforts to reach as many farmers with the solution which not only by ourselves but also by partnerships with various organisations that have the same mission of making a sustainable way of food production
Our solution is using a number of technologies that have been put together to provide one big solution to change the narrative in Agriculture. We are using drones for data collection and detection, but what makes them unique is that the drones are able to detect these pests and diseases in real-time, while they pass over the field capturing data, they are also detecting the crop stresses, similarly to the app when using phone camera as someone is scanning the system is also detecting in real-time. These work hand in hand with AI/Machine learning to be able to recognize diseases and finally we are using the IoT device to make sure that no one is left out, it is implemented in the devices that are part of the smart water system

Currently, we are having over 200 users that are benefitting from our solution, and we have a target of serving at least 3000 farmers by end of 2023 as we are still trying to enter the market but by next year we expect 10000+ users to benefit from our solution
The major challenge or barrier currently is our financial status, we lack enough financial resources that could help us reach a great milestone this is needed as most of our operating costs need money at the moment, lacking expertise in writing insightful and cultivating grants, stakeholder engagement as well as how to communicate with them, Finally we lacking business expertise in cost-optimization and marketing aspects that we hope through a business acceleration we want to take, will be addressed
We are currently only working with only one organization, Zambia Flying Labs, which is helping us with technical support and guidance, to develop a proper product for our users. Negotiations are also in the process to working with the Ministry of Agriculture in Zambia.
Our business model is providing a centralized real-time, cheap, and easy-to-use farming management system that helps to be specific small and medium-scale farmers in rural areas improve their yields, reduce losses, increase profits, and secure their farms. a marketplace for them to sell their produce. Farmers do need a sustainable way of farming that is profitable as they rely on it for their livelihood. Our solution is accessible in different languages with audio output meaning leaving no farmer behind
For the general public and agro-processors a market where they can easily get fresh produce at a good price. making food easily accessible for an ordinary human being
For agro-dealers a marketplace for them to sell Agri inputs to their customers
First of all, as we are growing we are and will bring money from grants from NGOs that have the same goal as ours which is helping farmers, farm in a sustainable and profitable manner as well as from Innovation challenges such as this one apart from this We have 4 revenue streams we are working towards and that is:
A service charge of 30 dollars/hectare for a one-time farm scan/servicing
A monthly subscription of 10 dollars for the app scanning/market/agro-dealers and expertise
50 dollars monthly subscription for the smart water irrigation system
3-5% commission for every agro-dealer product sold on the platform
