GREEETH
A platform that solves carbon emission in Africa by allowing individuals and industries to exhaustively calculate their carbon footprint, reduce it, and offset their footprint by planting trees.
The change with industrial revolution and the rise of human emission of carbon dioxide from burning fossil fuel which leads to global warming and a change in climate that causes extreme weather event (Loss of specie, hotter temperatures, more severe storms, increase drought, health risk, poverty and displacement and lot more) which affects human, biodiversity, and the environment.
Global warming occurs when carbon dioxide and other pollutants accumulate in the atmosphere. Carbon dioxide (CO2) is a primary greenhouse gas (GHG) emission and makes up the vast majority of it.
Each year, we discover more about the consequences of global warming through evidence of its worrisome impact on the planet and its inhabitants.
Everyone around the world feels the effects of climate change. The most vulnerable are people living in the world's poorest countries. Increasingly unpredictable weather patterns, shifting seasons, and natural disasters disproportionately threaten these populations, endangering their livelihoods and increasing their risk of poverty and hunger.
Human daily activities cause carbon emissions from burning fossil fuels for electricity, heat, and transportation. Human activities currently release 30 billion tons of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere every year. This climate change in turn affects humans, biodiversity, and the environment.
Africa is the most vulnerable continent to climate change impacts under all climate scenarios above 1.5 degrees Celsius.
Seven of the 10 countries that are most vulnerable to climate change are in Africa, despite having contributed the least to global warming and having the lowest emissions, Africa faces exponential collateral damage, posing systemic risks to its economies, infrastructure investments, water and food systems, public health, agriculture, and livelihoods, threatening to undo its modest development gains and slip into higher levels of extreme poverty.
If we don’t reduce our global emissions, climate change could cause the deaths of additionally 250,000 people globally and annually from climate-sensitive diseases (heat stress, malnutrition, dengue and malaria). In countries that already have high levels of suffering and poverty, this could have disastrous effects that we cannot afford to risk.
These devastating effects will likely also force 100 million people into extreme poverty by 2030.
Nine out of ten companies globally fail to comprehensively measure their total carbon emissions).
Greeeth wants to solve carbon emissions in African countries by creating a platform that allows individuals and organizations to exhaustively calculate their carbon footprint automatically using machine learning and big data, give reduction recommendations, and offset their footprint by planting trees, which is the easiest and most efficient way to sequester carbon emissions.
We have developed a carbon footprint calculator that will use machine learning and big data. For individuals, the majority of daily activities generate carbon footprints ranging from transportation, energy use (KW), product purchases, food, and much more.
To calculate the carbon footprint for industries we will use the GreenHouse Gas (GHG) Emission Scope.
After the equivalent carbon footprint is gotten then we give numbers of trees needed to offset the carbon emission.
We have two methods of planting which is planting by farmers and autonomous seed-firing drones which are are 25 times faster and can plant up to 5,000 seedpods per flight. The planting process makes use of tree geotagging to get on-field data such as the GPS coordinate, the timestamp and the image of the tree for validation.
Africa houses 303 million Smartphone Users in Sub-Saharan Africa while 60% of African's are farmer. Planting by farmers allows businesses to connect with farmer by sending the planting location through smartphone to plant trees and the farmers get paid for their time and effort.
With the carbon footprint report gotten from Greeeth, consultant can give recommendation for companies on how to reduce their footprint.

85% of the human population and 11,000 species in the world faces extreme weather event primarily caused by Carbon emission which leads to a change in climate and causes to health risk, threatened of species, poverty and displacement and lot more.
With our solution, we can reduce the impact of climate change, which has had lots of effects on humans, biodiversity, and the environment at large.
In the last 3 years floods in Africa destroyed over 20,000 homes and affected over 3 million people caused by climate change.
The impact of industries and individual day to day activities in the country as bring about carbon emission and most of them have not been able to provide a clean environment.
African Region was home to 96% of Malaria deaths. Children under 5 accounted for 80% of all malaria death in the region caused by increase temperature and rainfall, which contributed to the outbreak.
World Health Organization report shows that 250,000 additional deaths from climate sensitive diseases (heat stress, malnutrition, dengue, and malaria) is set to start from 2030 onward.
With Greeeth we will build habitat for biodiversity to live and survive by planting trees. Exhaustively calculation carbon footprint, recycling waste, and reducing it will drastically reduce the impact of climate change on human and the environment.

To validate our project, our team did research on global carbon emission and saw the increase in industrial emission and the way they are trying to reduce it but not effective. We also went through papers on carbon emission, climate change from different countries and government trying to fight climate change.
After we have gotten the problem, we meet with some potential users on how will they would like to reduce their carbon footprint, both on the individuals and the industries emit carbon. For the individuals, we did a test with our prototype where they calculate their footprint for the month, and they know the aggregate CO2 emission, the effect and how to offset it by planting trees.
We meet with sustainable department of 4 industries in Nigeria and spoke about the great project with them which we explained how it will work. Most of the challenges they faced for carbon sequestration is not having an adequate report on the tree planted and on the farmer's part. While some of them to get to have accurate data of their carbon emission as it is done manually which confirms the research by Boston Consulting group which shows that ''Nine out of ten companies globally fail to comprehensively measure their total carbon emissions.''

- Prototype: A venture or organization building and testing its product, service, or business model
CARBON FOOTPRINT
All trees planted either by humans or autonomous drones will be geotagged. By geotagging, we will be able to get the tree's GPS coordinates, timestamp, and weather data, which will be registered on the cloud and visible on the interactive map. With this, we will have single forest data, transparency, traceability, no double counting, and accountability.
There will be a learning session where users can learn more about sustainability, climate change, and carbon sequestration.
Greeeth interactive geospatial map that allows users to view and analyze the carbon footprint, carbon offset, forestry, deforestation, wildfire, and much more related to climate change with the latest data, technology, and tools. Users can view how trees absorb CO2 and how greenhouse gas emissions cause climate change and its reduction using trees, as well as tree status (health, CO2 sequestration, location, age, tree type, etc.). All trees planted on Greeeth will be available on the Greeeth map.
Users can view the simulated results of vulnerable locations and countries that need a tree. This will demonstrate the simulated future effects of carbon emissions that are not offset.
RECYCLING
Greeeth offers the ability for end users to recycle their waste (plastic, glass, tin, and paper) when they are calculating their carbon footprint and sells it at a price for vendors or agents to buy it for recycling at companies that will recycle it.
TREE MAINTENANCE
Greeeth allows farmers to maintain trees by sending a maintenance notification to the farmer's smartphone using the Weather Data API. Planters do maintenance on the tree and routine checks.
The weather forecast is used to determine the weather condition of the tree planted (ultraviolet index, wind, humidity, and temperature).
Our platform monitors tree health and sends maintenance tasks to planters when needed.
TRACKING
Users can easily get tree data, track progress, and also see their impact and CO2 offset in real-time.
ILLEGAL TREE DEFORESTATION MONITORING
Farmers can flag an attempt for illegal deforestation in a particular location with evidence and report it to the nearest authority, and they get rewarded. Other members also confirm the attempt at illegal deforestation.
We will work with the government to avoid illegal deforestation.
LEGAL/PROPER DEFORESTATION
Merge deforestation time with the actual time needed for the tree to be planted.
Corporations that want to cut down the tree will have planted the same amount of substitute earlier, and before that, they will have captured and locked the carbon emitted closer to the tree that will be cut down.
We can control the growth, composition/structure, and quality of forests using Silviculture to meet values and needs, specifically timber production.
A tree planted can be used for corporate gifting for customers, employee engagement, a unique reward, a loyalty program for customers, corporate social responsibility (CSR), and special engagement.
With our solution, we will change the market for carbon offsetting instead of the traditional way where companies just hire a tree-planting company to plant trees for them without knowing their equivalent CO2 emissions for the number of trees that need to be planted, and the trees can't be monitored.
Also, individuals will have the opportunity to recycle their waste and sell it to vendors, who can then sell it back to the company to recycle the waste.
This will be changed by our solution, which will give users control over their carbon footprint and offset.
We will work with the Greeth project to achieve the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal for societal impact, which includes, but is not limited to:
1. No Poverty (Goal 1): 60% of Africans are farmers and planting tree and land restoration will create job and provide better shelter in the long run.
2. Climate Action (Goal 13): We are building a greener earth and we will help improve resiliency and lessen climate change effect in Africa by 1% which can save 1,320 number of people from death.
With Greeeth we will reduce the impact of death caused by malaria by 0.5% for the coming year.
Recycling ♻️ of waste will also remove CO2 .
3. Responsible Consumption and Production (SDG 12): Product purchased by our users can be recycled after used by using Greeeth platform to collect heir waste for recycling, waste management, prevention, reuse and recycling. This will remove the contribution of the waste on climate change.
4. Life on Land (Goal 15): The lung and heart of the terrestrial ecosystem are forest. It's a source habitat and food source for wildlife. We will create more home for biodiversity on Land which won't make them go extinct.
- Machine Learning
Machine learning model is used for carbon footprint calculator which uses big data to get lots of data in place to exhaustively calculate the footprint for industries and for individuals.
On the individual footprint calculator for waste, we can easily collect waste data that can be recycled for sale on our open recycle page when vendors can easily purchase it and sell it to companies.
For industries, a report of CO2 emissions will be generated, which can then be sent to consultants for advice on how to reduce the emissions.
- Mobile Application
We also use smartphones to communicate with farmers, as 60% of Africans are farmers, and we developed an application that can be easily used to send planting locations (coordinates) and a maintenance schedule to the farmer, both of which are automated using IBM Weather data API.
The mobile application technology behind it is:
Backend: Django, Python, Django rest framework, Digital ocean ubuntu vpc, Celery, Postgres, PostGis, IBM weather api, and Docker.
Frontend: Vercel, JavaScript, Vite, Styled components, React, Tailwind, and IBM Watson virtual assistant
Greeeth relies on technology to function, for every aspect of it.
- Geospatial Technology
We allow farmers and drones to geotag the tree that has been planted to get the GPS coordinates, timestamp, and weather data. This gives us the opportunity to monitor the tree's health with our technology.
The tree gesture was validated using a machine learning model that detects tree planting.
When the tree is geotagged, it will be available on a geospatial map.
- Geospatial map:
Greeeth interactive geospatial map will allow people to view and analyze carbon footprints, carbon offsets, forestry, deforestation, wildfires, and much more related to climate change with the latest data, technology, and tools across the globe.
We are using Arcgis and World Forest Watch for our Geospatial map (link of the GIS prototype: https://greeeth.com/map )
- Autonomous seed firing drone
Use of a drone to plant a tree:
The drone will be used to plant in locations that are not accessible by farmers or for mass planting. It's 25 times faster than planting by humans and can plant up to 5,000 seed pods per flight in 45 minutes.
The drone will support a 5G network for fast and accurate transmission of tree data to the Greenleaf database.
Terra-mapping (pre-planting) operation to get where the drone fires the seed pods Drone for precise planting site monitoring and analysis.Using a precision drone to get tree health information and detect disease
Companies willing to purchase the drone will partner with us to purchase it from the drone supply company we will be partnering with.
- Biodegradable nutrient seed pods
The drone seed pods are biodegradable and made of nutrients that aid the growth of the seed pods after they've been planted by the drone.
