Self Sustaining Kennel

Self-sustaining kennel project in Latin America, which seeks to raise awareness in society to apply effective methods to control the canine population, and implement an effective adoption system.

The specific problem is the canine overpopulation; this problem has an enormous magnitude and scope since it covers many areas of Latin America. The main ones affected are children, since according to various studies, they are involved in 75% of all registered attacks, people with mental health problems, drug or alcohol problems, disabilities, the elderly, and people with low economic resources.

The factors that contribute to the fact that this problem has not been solved and that it continues to increase is due to the lack of education on the responsibility of pet ownership, since that is what allows people to understand the responsibility and commitment that it entails having a dog; Also another factor is the lack of interest and initiative on the part of the government agencies of each nation to reduce the growth of the canine population; Lastly, another factor is the campaigns carried out by the national or regional communities to present temporary solutions to this problem, which in the long term, instead of contributing to the reduction, contributes radically to the increase due to the lack of continuous financing.
The problems that arise as a consequence of canine overpopulation are various problems such as parasitic contamination by canine feces, noise pollution, frequent canine attacks on people (especially children) and even on other animals, damage to private property, and car traffic accidents, public space cleanliness problems, and the spread of animal-borne diseases such as rabies.

The creation of a self-sustaining kennel, which is a kennel that can generate profits that exceed its expenses, through the means described below:

         1. Due to the collection of dogs, various incomes can be obtained that will make it self-sustaining:
                     1.1 Captured dogs that have owners will pay a commission for the services rendered; These services include the temporary accommodation of the pet in the facilities or branches and the protection and care provided to the animal.
                     1.2 Captured dogs that do not have an owner will be prepared for an adoption position which will be free on the website that we will develop, but for this, people seeking to adopt will have to purchase an initial dog care kit, they will only pay for food and tools needed to care for a dog.
           2. Monthly, semi-annual or annual subscriptions of electronic dog collars; this will help in the creation of a database that will facilitate the search for lost registered dogs and their subsequent delivery to the owner.
           3. Donation system implemented on the website to help the cause, and on other pages that can provide us with that service, which can even be reflected in some benefits such as merchandising of all kinds, participation in raffles, discounts, emblems, etc.
           4. Find collaborators with private or public companies that can help us with the benefits and special events that we carry out.

In general, they are all the populations and communities that constitute Latin America, since they all present this problem, although in a first stage, it would be planned to focus on one city and then expand the idea and the execution process in other communities. Due to the fact that currently the cities of Latin America present an exorbitant increase in the canine population since the last decade. This solution will address the need to educate people to develop a sense of responsibility and respect towards their pets.

The members of the team feel well positioned to offer the solution due to our personal experiences since we live in a society where we could sadly witness the consequences of this problem, both personally and for our families. Additionally, we have participated in events in favor of dogs. which helped us to understand the real situation of the issue better, and personally, because I study professionally in the area of public health, I can understand the impact on Latin American society.

I have voluntarily participated in some beneficial activities for society that involve this problem, but mainly we have understood the needs of the population by identifying the central problem of all this and compiling information, data, and statistics that helped us to better visualize the problem to then analyze that information which allowed us to identify the consequences of this problem and thus consequently establish objectives and solutions. Additionally, part of my team has knowledge of software design and development that will allow us to implement our solutions.

Muchos de los procedimientos que describimos antes pueden ser ya un poco conocidos en algunos países que ya han resuelto este problema, pero dentro de las comunidades latinoamericanas los procedimientos llevados a cabo por los países desarrollados no estarían perfectamente adaptados a la realidad de las comunidades latinoamericanas, debido a que estos procedimientos conocidos han tenido que ser reformulados y se les ha dado un enfoque que tenga resultados eficientes e innovadores en estos nuevos Realidades.

Nuestros objetivos son mejorar la salud pública, reducir el número de accidentes automovilísticos en las calles y ataques de perros a humanos, creando un entorno seguro donde incluso los niños no corran el riesgo de ser atacados o mordidos al salir a las calles.
