Initiatives on Restoration of Hope for People with Disability (IRHPD) is a non-profit organization operating in Tanzania Mainland. IRHPD works to improve the social and economic welfare of people with disabilities in vulnerable environments. The organization provides training in agricultural, tailoring, and technology skills for individuals with disabilities to promote their independence and self-sufficiency.
Since its inception in 2910, Initiatives on Restoration of Hope for People with Disability has implemented a variety of approaches to empower people with disabilities to live independently and participate fully in all aspects of life as better citizens. In 2020 IRHPD began collaborating with our training partner, Mwanza Youth Centre (MYC) to equip children and youth with disabilities from vulnerable environments with relevant skills in digital literacy in Mwanza region – Tanzania.
IRHPD now seeks to expand the program with the addition of technology to meet the following objectives:
- To provide relevant digital literacy and skills through vocational training to marginalized children and youth
- To discover and nurture talents of marginalised children and youth with disabilities in digital literacy; and
- To create employment opportunities to youth with disabilities through digital technologies.
Research Question: How digital literacy and skills can effectively enhance self-reliance and sustainability to youth with disabilities?
Potential Deliverables:
- Demonstrated knowledge of digital literacy and skills among participants
- Demonstrated talents discovered and nurtured among participants
- Demonstrated employment opportunities created among participants
