The Flournoy Foundation
- Nonprofit
The Flournoy Foundation is a multipurpose nonprofit that helps specific groups in the community. This corporation plans to serve its community by bridging the gap between people living in poverty and the resources that are available. It has charities established and the program that is the focus of our proposed LEAP project is called James Proctor Youth Association. The program that is the focus of our proposed LEAP project is our Hope Center for Children and Youth.
The youths we are targeting or those who are underprivileged in the geographic area. The age range for the youth association is 12 to 18 years old. The James Proctor Youth Association is going to provide resources to underprivileged youth that includes but are not limited to children's shelters, foster care, alternative schools, and the juvenile detention center. Donations will be made to groups like the Boys and Girls Club and The Children’s Shelter. Within this program; we are also providing services such as Mentorship Programs and Back to School Programs. Through our mentorship programs, we are increasing technology to promote high-speed internet. Through our back-to-school programs, we will be purchasing laptops and tablets for college students to increase technology use. We will also be focused on providing school supplies as resources to teachers to assist with education.

The mission of The Flournoy Foundation is to support underprivileged youth. The James Proctor Youth Association is going to target the troubled youth that is in foster care, alternative schools, and juvenile detention center. We have established this community because there are so many youths in the area that have less than they should in order to prosper in life. We are trying to reduce poverty and continue to help those who are underserved. We see the issues that they are currently having to deal with. This is how we have designed our programs and services to benefit and provide a solution to our target market in the best way possible.
We are looking to make drastic changes in the lives of our beneficiaries. We are aware that their surroundings are not the best and they do not have access to school supplies, bookbags, laptops, and tablets. We want to ensure we are having enough school supply drives to provide these items to them. With the needed technology, these youths will have a better opportunity to become successful in life while being successful in obtaining an education. We want these youths to graduate high school and then enroll in college. This way they will be able to graduate with degrees and different trades to ensure generational wealth in the years to come. we want to set them up for success and not failure.
We are using the evidence gathered within our theory of change to constantly enhance our services, programs, and projects for our target market. We want to know the entire scope of the areas that we are looking to target and this is why we are partnering with other nonprofits that have similar interests. The nonprofits include but are not limited to the following: Urban League of the Upstate, Butterfly Foundation, Spartanburg Academic Movement, Hope Remains Youth Ranch, Speaking Down Barriers, Hope Center for Children, Boys and Girls club, and Soteria Inc. We want to assist as many youths as possible and to do this we must fully understand the statement of need. We look over every area and department of the poverty spectrum so we can fully obtain as much knowledge needed to accurately enhance the lives of the young girls and boys we intend to assist.
We are currently tracking and measuring our solution's impact by the number of youth we are physically able to assist. We know that there are multiple youths who are in need of assistance so the more we are able to help with our giveaways and mentoring - the better the chances of making a larger impact in the communities. We also keep up with the number of attendees and the number of items that are provided.
This project intends to service those underserved youths with technology and school supplies in order to prosper.
- Growth
The research question we would want LEAP Fellows to help us answer is how many youths in the communities have an actual chance at graduating high school by being offered the proper resources? We are aware that not all youths want to learn and leave the environments that they are comfortable living in. We want to ensure that the youths we are targeting will be susceptible to assistance.
We would just like to receive any deliverables possible that would allow us to give more to the target market while setting them up for success in the future.
A successful outcome of this project would be to provide those youth with increased technology to promote all areas that they have been lacking. We want to provide more school supplies so the stress of not having items needed will not fill their minds. We want them to be able to focus on their education and not the multiple stressors that surround living in poverty and being underserved. The LEAP program would enhance our 5-year goal by allowing us to carry out more resources to those who are in dire need. We have hopes to build a transitional house for underprivileged youth and we believe with your help - we can make that happen.
The goal is to help the underserved by reducing poverty and crime rates. For this to occur, we are needing funding to purchase the transitional house and supply staff to manage the house and the responsibilities surrounding it. However, for us to achieve this feat, we have come up with several competitive strategies that will allow us to favorably compete against our competitors. We have done our feasibility study and market research, we have been able to know our competitors, we have identified their strength and their weakness, and we will be ready to tackle them with their weaknesses, by using the right source, acquiring new customers through ads and influencer marketing, website promotion and increasing the reliability of operations by investing in more resources and services.
