OKdoc
The Okdoc solution has been devised to bring Primary Healthcare provision to
all levels of the population. It has been engineered to bring a standards-based, secure, centralised, customer-centric Healthcare platform. By utilising the next generation communications platforms, OKdoc can bring primary healthcare systems to the patient regardless of their location thus making it easier for people to access care where and when they need it.Most patients in emerging markets have problems getting access to primary healthcare screening as the provison of these services are usually based in urban areas away from where the treatment is needed. By deploying the OKdoc Ecosystem, this care can be brought closer to those in need in a standard format thus enabling all agencies involved in the care chain the right information where it is needed in a timely manner.
With over 1.4Bn global citizens (would be patients) not receiving any primary healthcare, and only an estimated 10M healthcare professionals in the developing countries of Africa, the Caribbean and the greater sub-continent, RD4A believe that by providing real-time access to primary healthcare, at a low cost to an organisation or entity, be it government, NGO, corporate socially responsible companies and other community representatives at a very low cost, healthcare can be provided free to the underprivileged individuals that are currently the underserved and the most needy.
Not only can money be generated to enhance the service, by offering additional value-added options through the versatile app, but critically it will make a difference in the lives of populations by providing a standards-based, patient centric healthcare ecosystem delivered by any certified and available healthcare provider worldwide. (First responder/ community healthcare worker, nurse, doctor, specialist etc). In macro terms, the RD4A solution subscribes to the mantra that healthy populations equate to healthy economies.
Uniquely with RD4A, the patient/user retains their personal health records allowing each individual to benefit from moving their record by agreement to any chosen healthcare provider instantly.
In terms of a conservative rollout, RD4A have estimated that the serviceable initial market is in excess of 70M users (which is about 5% of the TAM). In the financial forecasts, even a small portion of that market will generate in excess of $100M per annum.
Major global organisations such as the WEF and the WHO agree that Primary Healthcare Systems are lacking in developing markets and that there is a critical need for solutions that can enhance the quality of life, and real-life expectancy in those severely underserved markets.
By being able to provide real-time, clinical quality, primary healthcare over a
cloud-based infrastructure will enable any patient to be connected with a
healthcare specialist, wherever they may be and conducted by semiskilled
healthcare workers on the ground. This means that the patient and the
healthcare worker can see each other in their local environment thus cutting
down expensive travel and time necessary to do the most basic services. By
using next generation connectivity solutions, these services can be delivered
regardless of location using satellite from the remote location to anywhere in
the world. The doctor (based in any location) conducts a ‘physical examination’ as well as having proper medical pointers from different portable medical equipment operated in the remote location by the front line healthcare worker.

The OKdoc ecosystem has been designed for all touchpoints in the provision of healthcare provision at all levels of the market. The four main pillars are
1 Secure Sign-on with full audit trail on the blockchain
2 Encrypted document management system underpinning the Patient Record
3 Secure Communications Platform that encompasses Voice, Video and Chat functions with transcription and translation services where necessary
4 Real-time Medical Device Telemetry Information directly recorded into the platform and held in the Patient Record
We feel that we are truly the first customer centric healthcare platform catering for developing markets
Over 50% of the world population doesnt have access to Primary Healthcare Services and thats the market that OKdoc is aiming at, those people in emerging markets.
With over 1.4Bn citizens (patients), and in excess of 10M healthcare
professionals in the developing countries in Africa, Carribean and
the sub-continent, RD4A believe that by keeping the costs low and
giving the solution to the end-user for free, that not only can money
be generated to enhance the service (and service the shareholders),
but it will also make a difference in the lives of the population by
providing a standards based, patient centric healthcare ecosystem.
RD4A have conservatively estimated that the Serviceable market is
in excess of 70M users (which is about 5% of the TAM), and in the
financial forecasts, even a portion of that market will generate in
excess of $100M per annum.
All of the major global organisations such as the WEF and the WHO
agree that Primary Healthcare Systems are lacking in developing
markets and that there is a definite need for systems that can
enhance the quality of life in those markets.
Competitive
We have a very deep understanding of the African market as the directors have had many years of servicing these markets in other endeavours. This, coupled with the team that has been assembled, (most of which are from previously disadvantaged communities), means that we have a real understanding of the market we are trying to help. By working with local NGO, RD4A currently have two POCs running in South Africa in the most rural of locations to supply these services to the populations there. This is giving real insight as to the impact that can be gained by projects like this.
By partnering with associates in emerging market countries, we aim to customise the base platform to local conditions whilst maintaining a standard level of care across the platform. We hope that this will enable us to see trends in both disease and cures and looking at automating some of the basic healthcare functions thus freeing up the doctors to concentrate on more pressing issues
- Optimize holistic care for people with rare diseases—including physical, mental, social, and legal support
- Support daily care management for patients and/or their caregivers
- Mitigate barriers to accessing medical care after diagnosis which disproportionately affect disinvested communities and historically underrepresented identity groups
- Enhance coordination of care and strengthen data sharing between health care professionals, specialty services, and patients
- Empower patients with quality information about their conditions to fight stigma associated with rare diseases
- Promote community and connection among rare disease patients and their advocates
- Pilot
We have been developing the solution for 3 years and the founding team has bootstrapped the platform out of their own pockets. We are at the seed fund stage and obviously, the prize money will be welcomed, but also, by working with organisations like MIT, we feel that our technical capabilities will be enhanced thus improving the platform for all.
As discussed previously, we see the OKdoc platform as a truly customer centric healthcare system and as such, from 1 common platform we can cater for multiple classes of customer such as,
PatientsOkdoc provides patients, wherever they are in the world, with unmatched real-time, professional and free primary healthcare that protects their personal information and medical history and is easily accessed on any mobile device irrespective of network availability and connectivity challenges. In a word – ‘lifechanging’.
Healthcare ProfessionalsOkdoc frees-up valuable time for healthcare professionals allowing them to be more efficient and effective, manage greater patient numbers, minimise outdated paper-based record-keeping, and generate more value, utilising Okdoc’s patient management system including medical telemetry that provides a full view of the patient experience.
Corporate Clients / CSR / NGO / NPOEnabling and supporting the duty of care that large organisations must espouse to for their various stakeholders groups (employees and their dependants, the communities in which they operate and other influencers and opinion-makers) utilising Okdoc to raise their positive profile by using the healthcare value that Okdoc provides for all.
GovernmentBy providing Government with a standard platform, healthcare provision can be consistently applied across the country and by having detailed statistics about the overarching health of the population, more accurate decisions can be made and resources focused where necessary.
By the end of year 5, we would like to have a subscriber base of 20M
subscribers, which would mean that we would be helping to treat at
least 2M patients a year. In order to do this, we need to have
successful release of the platform in at least 3 countries, but would
like to see representative offices in 25 developing markets. We hope
that once the platform is proven throughout 2022, we will partner
with some of the major NGOs and CSR clients to gain access to their
networks, thus helping both organisations reach their goal.
We will also be very active in R&D for the CHW population in these
countries and would like to help with standards based education
programs that will enable the local populace to be self sustaining
when it comes to primary healthcare provision. We will be recruiting
professionals across all aspects of healthcare services for this
purpose.
The need for digital aggregation within healthcare is evident after the COVID pandemic. This has led to new processes and use cases to address the burgeoning task of communal healthcare. To date all emphasis has been placed on digitization of the primary healthcare environments. We have a talented , caring and focused team to address the need of developing world, grassroots digitization of healthcare solutions. Our plan and model focusses on achieving these goals and our team possesses the necessary experience and skillset to manage and drive these goals. The plan is action oriented and the team is agile enough to adapt to an ever disruptive market, bringing an identifiable solution to a real life problem.
Moonshot Goal 1
To cater for 15% of the underserviced market for PHC - 210M People
Moonshot Goal 2
To be active in 25 emerging markets (countries)
Moonshot Goal 3
OKdoc to be the NHI system of choice in our home country (South Africa)
We are firmly aligned with SDG 3,
Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all agesHow we are going to measure this is by the number of patients that are treated on our platform, as well as the number of Community Healthcare Workers we can train and support through the platform.
Along the way, we will obviously find other metrics that can be measured, but as we are at the start of our journey, we feel the biggest impact we can have is actually getting treatment to people
By enabling the Patient to have a valid record on the system, no-one is forgotten, and therefore better statistics can be obtained
For the PHC worker, the process will be streamlined and automated where possible, thus enabling them to treat more people, whilst giving a standard level of care
For the Doctor, they will be able to treat more people due to streamlined processes
For the Funder (NGOetc), they will understand where and how their funds are being used, giving a level of comfort
For Government, they will have a better idea of the underlying health of the population and can plan accordingly

The OKdoc platform has been built using standards based software that is hosted in the cloud. By utilising open standards, it is felt that the ecosystem can accomodate integration to existing clinical systems in place ensuring no data is lost.
The platform is composed of a web based app and a smartphone app for the end user. This is hosted on the Google Cloud and comprises a blockchain element for patient records and payment systems.
The medical devices are also digital and this means that all telemetry will be recorded directly into the platform thus negating any errors being recorded. Also by using "wearables", patients can be monitored remotely and any deviations of vital signs can be relayed to a healthcare worker for further investigation.
We have an open standards based communication system that is available and comprises VOIP, Video and Chat functions with automatic transcription.
In the roadmap, there is AI where we can start to machine learn and do some diagnosis without human intervention and this will enable more patients to be seen with less interactions from a very scarce resource which is the Healthcare worker.
Also by automating certain functions, we are hoping that less qualified personnel can be employed with back up from professionals thus creating employment and giving a greater standard of care.

We have a very cultural mix of the team, in fact most of the team are from previously disadvantaged communities.
As for the Gender mix, the team is split roughly 50/50 across the board in all aspects of delivery (in fact most of the dev team is female)
The platform will be offered as Software as a Service (SaaS)
There are at least 3 different income streams based on different
identified scenarios.
1. The service is offered free to the user with a PAYG model for
healthcare professionals, there is a charge of between $1-$1.50
(however in certain markets this will be a percentage of revenue).
2. The second revenue stream is from referrals and prescriptions.
3. The third is from sales of medical equipment to Community
Healthcare Workers. Allied to this, RD4A are providing their own
Token on the Ethereum Blockchain and that there will be a small
percentage of revenue in turning over of funds through the users’
wallet system which also allows third parties to top-up the wallet
from anywhere in the world.
Customer acquisition will be by a direct sales force in the initially
selected countries with appointments already
commenced, and this will be appended by online/ social media
marketing.
It is envisaged that 80% of revenue will be from patient
consultations, referrals, and word-of-mouth.
Over time , there can be seen to be other methods of revenue such as targeted advertising to groups of users. It is also seen that there will be a huge data lake with highly detailed data that can be anonymised and sold to interested parties such as NGO, Pharmaceutical companies and Governmental departments.
- Individual consumers or stakeholders (B2C)
We are currently in POC with two NGO and we feel that these projects will start producing revenue in Q322.
We are currently looking for seed funding to take us through the first two years with a view to being profitable in Year 3, and will be looking at both seed funding as well as various grants we can try and procure. As we are very active with both CSR and NGO organisations, we are hoping that we can get some funding through that route as well.
Currently the whole project has been backed by the founders and bootstrapped accordingly.
We hope that after the POCs are complete and we move into revenue generation, we will be able to secure funding moving forward.
To date, in excess of $500k has been supplied by the shareholders in terms of actual cash and salary sacrifices.
