Health is wealth
The specific problem within the challenge is providing appropriate treatment options for the syndromes of rare diseases like Down syndromes.People living with rare diseases are neglected locally and globally, hence, our solutions aim to improve the well-being of these patients.
Scale of the problem is 1 in 800 to 1 in 865 live babies in Nigeria, and 1 in 1000 to 1 in 1100 live births globally.
Factors contributing to the problem include genetic and environmental factors
Our solutions involve technology like genetic engineering to correct genetic disorder at the pre-natal stage. This would prevent these rare diseases like Down syndrome.
In addition, preventive measures should be put in place to stop and prevent environmental hazards like radiations(Gamma ray, ultraviolet etc) and pollution the can cause mutation in fetus leading to development of rare diseases.
New technology should be introduced to replace the use of nuclear materials, plastics, fossil fuel which are the sources of these lethal radiations and pollution.
Our target population include live babies, infants, youths and adults living with rare diseases, including the marginalized and underserved groups of the patients.
They are currently underserved by being neglected by both the governments and communities. They are denied access to quality education, health services and relevant technology to help them cope with their health conditions.
The solution will address their need healthwise, socially, physically and mentally.
My team and I intensify efforts to identify and meet these patients with rare diseases, including their families to let them aware of ways of improving their conditions to enable them live a better live.
- Optimize holistic care for people with rare diseases—including physical, mental, social, and legal support
- Support daily care management for patients and/or their caregivers
- Mitigate barriers to accessing medical care after diagnosis which disproportionately affect disinvested communities and historically underrepresented identity groups
- Enhance coordination of care and strengthen data sharing between health care professionals, specialty services, and patients
- Empower patients with quality information about their conditions to fight stigma associated with rare diseases
- Promote community and connection among rare disease patients and their advocates
- Scale
We apply to this challenge to get a grant to enable my team and I address the challenges of people living with rare diseases. These challenges include recruiting/hiring of medical personnel, relevant medical devices, approval and support of the government,education/awareness creation the communities, logistics, utilities and staff salaries.
Our solution is innovative as it advocates scientific researches into technology to design effective devices to supporting people living with rare diseases, prevention and treatment of mutation and genetic disorders during the pre-natal stage.
Our impact goals for the next year and the next five years are to prevent and reduce the occurrence of rare diseases, help people living with rare diseases achieve financial, social, mental and legal freedom.
I work with my team and check our project regularly. We take the statistics of our beneficiaries, conduct surveys and get feedback from the communities members.
Our theory of change states educating the patients and their relatives on our mission to mitigate the symptoms of their rare diseases to enable be ready and comply with our treatment options.
The technology that powers our solution include social media, public address system, computers and internet,SMS and medical devices.
We use social media, public address system,SMS to make our project known to the people and communicate with them effectively.
We employ medical devices to diagnose the responded beneficiaries.
