ImSafeNow
Physical and verbal assaults against women and children are globally endemic across all regions and socio-economic strata. Historically, this is a very complex problem and has been addressed on multiple levels: legislatively, socially, and through law & order agencies. The existing solutions are still grossly inadequate. Today software and integrated smart digital technologies enable personal empowerment of women and children that can make them even safer.
lmSafeNow is an integrated hardware/software platform providing a complete safety solution for women and children. The lmSafeNow platform assembles a socially networked "Community of Helpers" ready to assist when called upon.
• Small wearable device wirelessly connects to a smartphone
• Phone-based software App communicates for help
• Software Platform enables "Network of Helpers"
- Access to identified Counselors from the Network of Helpers for "chat"
TrustLaw, a news service run by Thomson Reuters, has ranked India as the worst G20 country in which to be a woman. I was born in India and yes, in my growing up years; most of us were assaulted in the streets and in the public transportation we took. We all learnt to live with it and did not even complaint. What I am shocked is to learn that nothing much has changed for past 3 decades! Women still feel very unsafe and are not free to wear what they want or go anywhere at night. With more than 24,000 reported cases in 2011, rape registered a 9.2% rise over the previous year. More than half (54.7%) of the victims were aged between 18 and 30. Delhi accounted for over 17% of the total number of rape cases in the country.
lmSafeNow initial target is University and High School system for phased rollout:
• Student safety is a driving concern
• Demographically at-very high risk.
• High social media utilization
• Rapid technology uptake
Universities provide a target population of 21M domestically and 27M in India. Safety within the lmSafeNow network will be ensured by access only by invitation. Revenues are generated through a one-time device cost and small monthly subscription fee.
• Accessibility: Pilot in USA and India - key bellwether markets.
• Scalability: Create a platform for communities
• Affordability: Leverage existing technology to minimize device cost.
EASY SETUP
- User first pairs the ‘ImSafeNow’ button with the ‘ImSafeNow’ app
- User can add up to 10 personalized contacts of his or her choice in the app.
- User then answers a couple of more questions on:
- Would they like to join the ‘Network of Helpers’
- If they are in distress, are they ok to get help from the ‘Network of Helpers’
ACTION when in Physical distress
- When User is in physical distress he or she presses the button
- This triggers the ImSafeNow App to send a special text message to the 10 contacts added
- It also sends the GPS location of the User
- If the User had opted to get help from the nearest helper
- per Geo fence constraints, the software looks for closest helper from the ‘Network of Helpers’
- and sends a txt message and the GPS location.
ACTION when in emotional distress
- When User is in emotional distress he or she opens the App and looks for available counselors
- Counselors can accept the ‘chat’ request
- Counselor gives the appropriate help to de-stress the user
- Support communities in designing and determining solutions around critical services
- Create or advance equitable and inclusive economic growth

- Access to identified counselors for chat when in need
We are going to use IoT combined with software developed natively for both IOS and Android. Our plan includes using AI initially when a user needs to chat with a counselor.
- Artificial Intelligence
- Internet of Things
- Social Networks
We think our solution is going to work as we have used human psychology to develop not just the software application but the IoT form factor too. As we want to make our solution ubiquitous, we are pricing our solution at a very affordable point.
- Women & Girls
- Children and Adolescents
- Elderly
- Peri-Urban Residents
- Urban Residents
- Middle-Income
- Persons with Disabilities
We have not launched the solution yet. But by end of 2020 we expect to serve 34000 and by end of 4 years we estimate to serve 1 million people.
Our goal is really simple:
1. Reach out to at least 300000 people so that we get 33000 users.
2. Add another region
Our barrier is marketing, just reaching out to more and more people will be our biggest challenge.
We are planning to use Influencers via social media to broadcast our message.
