Access to potable water
According to Kano State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Kabiru Gesto, confirmed that the state has so far recorded 28 deaths between January and July last year. Gesto noted that 400 cases of acute watery diarrhea had been recorded, while 50 cases of cholera across 33 local government areas of the state were also confirmed.
Building of access to potable water will reduce the dependent on dam and other contaminated source of water from exposed pipe.Building a network of volunteers to raise awareness. A stationary hospital should be built in the community to respond to emergency situation.
There would be a decline in mortality rate because ignorance has caused the community to lose people in their prime of life.
Cholera outbreak in Kano State northwest Nigeria is not giving the desire awareness, the twenty-eight death,400 cases of acute watery diarrhea is a tip of the iceberg because most of the people in the community I encountered are not convinced on the necessity of going to western hospital. We are engaging the community on Cholera prevention and treatment and encourage them to see western hospital as a solution not an extension of western dominance.
We engage the stakeholders in the community for wider network by raising awareness on good health and well being; cholera outbreak is just a facet of my team contribution in the community. It's difficult to estimate the population because we travel to various community. It's important to note that about a hundred and three gave us their details for voluntary participation. Age bracket 19-29 are about 98% unfortunate we could not absorb them because our source of funding is personal savings.
We built a chain of communication and trust with the community which facilitate outreach. My team and I are advocate of Sustainable Development Goals, we focus on several goals according to our abilities. A glimpse of our outreach https://www.facebook.com/NYSCS...
- Support communities in designing and determining solutions around critical services
- Scale
- New business model or process
It's innovative and less expensive in wider community coverage because we maximize our skills, talent and passion to achieve result.
It's a new business model because we maximize the potential of members by segmenting the task ahead. We develop a pilot programmed on renewable energy and treatment of water for safe drinking but unfortunate finance was a major setback because our source of funding was strictly personal income.
- Social Networks
SDGs slogan leaving no one behind from research it's non-inclusive because most of the stakeholders in the field are focusing their attention in cities whereas the knowledge of a balance world is leaving them behind. Our visit to various community was impressive. The participants became enlighten on SDGs for the first time. Since we spoke extensively on cholera and prevention. Boiling as an alternative to water guide absent was encourage. It's difficult to conduct a research that include both sex participation because of religious and cultural barriers.
- Children and Adolescents
- Rural Residents
- Nigeria
- Nigeria
We are about twenty-one currently. With motivation and support it may scale up to two thousand people willing to volunteer within the next five years.
Currently I 'm not impress because the key stakeholders are politician who have little or no knowledge of SDGs. I wrote to the OSSAP-SDGs about our setback but they do not careless because the problem is not directly affecting them. At the moment, we have suspended our movement of change due to economic realities but with motivation and support we will continue with our vision to give our best in rural community development.
Lack of technical support; training, workshop etc. to help the team. With little finance we would be motivated despite Lapses from key stakeholders.
We've done our best by writing to OSSAP-SDG on the challenges of our members which include no meeting venue;our meetings are held under a tree, no financial and technical support etc. We have written to several NGO but their response is not encouraging.
- Other e.g. part of a larger organization (please explain below)
SDG Advocacy group Kano it's was created by OSSAP-SDGs. OSSAP-SDGs is an intervention programmed by the federal government to help young people, corps members ,volunteers in reaching out to the community through partnership with a vision of domesticating SDG in every social interaction.
Five people work Full-time while seventeen work par-time
My team talents or skills include: Medical section,Crafts, IT, advocacy etc. We research about a community and discuss strategy of entry. some members will visit the community, send their observation to the rest of the team then draft a topic and visit the community for sensitization. Please note that most of our outreach are not captured on our social media platform because the concept of reaching out is due to necessity and not human applause.
I'm currently a member of united nation information center with a vision to get them support our movement of a better and balance community.

- Funding and revenue model
- Monitoring and evaluation
