Advoc8
Youth participation in political and social justice advocacy is one of the more urgent concerns of our time. The pursuit of the resolution of this very important issue represents the highest aspirations of the governments of our world and is a commitment toward preparing the next generation of leaders for the arduous task of world-building and world-changing that lies ahead. Young people today are not committed to this aim and need to be motivated and encouraged to participate in social justice advocacy through a relatable and accessible means that makes advocacy accessible and appealing.
The Advoc8 Games are a set of board games designed to “help young people be inspired to take up metaphorical arms in the first for political and social justice”. Our prototype, the Advoc8 Climate Action Game, is being incubated in South Africa.
Advoc8 deviates from the norm of purely academic social justice advocacy education by providing a uniquely accessible, fun, sustainable, and Afrocentric board game that brings social and political issues to the field of view of young people without compromising on the quality of learning.
We have distributed the tasks according to our strengths. For instance, the CEO is in charge of partnerships, and collaborations. Our head of finance is the one who structures the costs and the revenues. Our design team work on designing, improving and upgrading the game.
- Facilitate meaningful social-emotional learning among underserved young people.

The team is currently working on developing and improving our reach. We aim to target African students and kids in rural areas. Yet, it is challenging to find efficient channels to reach them.
- Monitoring & Evaluation (e.g. collecting/using data, measuring impact)
Advoc8 deviates from the norm of purely academic social justice advocacy education by providing a uniquely accessible, fun, sustainable, and Afrocentric board game that brings social and political issues to the field of view of young people without compromising on the quality of learning. It also encourages recycling. For instance, we have developed a process of exchanging cards with our customers, to recycle them later. Though it is a physical game, we aim to make it as eco-friendly as possible. Advoc8 is also a one-stop and unique solution as it is the only board game that focuses on teaching children cognitive skills through playing.
