BLACKSPEN
Africa is undoubtedly the new destination for most investors across the globe. It's described as an emerging market. There is one key problem that exist among Africans and blacks at large. The issues of ignorance on our culture and history. For this reason UNESCO has gathered all Africa's history into collections called the general history of Africa. Though about nine volumes of these historical information remains available to the general public, most Africans are still ignorant about their ancestry and heritage. The most pressing issues being the fact that major part of Africa are not well educated. Meanwhile, lots of graduates complete universities and are unable to find jobs. Again also, Africa is used to oral way of story telling from childhood training. This makes it difficult for even elites to read our history.
BLACKSPEN is therefore a peer to peer social for Africans to share their history and culture with the rest of the world. We do this in four unique ways:
1. An online social for everyone with smartphone to easily learn about Africa's history
2. We develop UNESCO GHA into bite-sized 60secs videos that can easily be consumed on the platform
3. Develop 30mins episodes of African history and cultural Documentaries which we share with communities with limited access to internet. These communities include orphanages, refugee camps and remote villages. In Africa especially Ghana, the night is usually bed time story for people in remote communities. We are in to help them tell their story with ease.
We currently target Africa youth with initial focus on Ghana. We also target refugee camps, orphanages and remote communities. For people living in other countries, cultural shock is something that can easily be anticipated but with exposure to history and cultural Documentaries we hope to bring life to people in refugee camps as well as people who might be missing out in bed time stories in the orphanages.
I'm Benjamin Britwum from Ghana and the CTO also from Ghana, developing the web and mobile apps has been made easier since we anggaeegd them in every step of the way. In fact when we won sponsorship to attend the intra Africa trade fair in Durban, South Africa, our major focus was market validation and we were happy with the feedback from people we interacted with.
Personally, I have worked with NGOs over the past 5years in delivering religious movies to rural communities of Ghana and I was astonished to see the number of people who turned up for every show whether it was new to them or a repetition.
