Tanzania Intellectual network program (TINP).
It as been a long time now, since inclusive modelling of teaching students with disabilities introduced in Tanzania and The national examination results in an inclusive schools from primary to secondary level shows that students with different kinds of disabilities have grown academically backward. A large percentage of students with various disabilities especially those with intellectual impairments fail to move in next level academically thus repetition of classes. Children with intellectual impartments may take 3 up to 4 years to move in another class level, despite of being slow learners mostly theses children have their own born abilities in different things like puzzle games, unfortunately teachers and parents unable to discover those abilities. The situation caused by many factors among those are poor education curriculum, incompetence of teachers and lack of monitoring of children's development. Parents together with Teachers fail to monitor the development of each child as the result we couldn't get the progress of our students and children development.
Tanzania Intellectual network program is online documentation services through TherapGlobal technology that supporting teachers, parents and guardians tracing their children educational progress, health services, physical ability and vocational skills. Documentation services will be very confidential and record demographic information of 500 learners with intellectual impairments and their medical information together with learners mobility.
Using the services Teachers will be able to organize notes by categorization including health, education, skills and physical ability. Teachers and parents by using Tanzania Intellectual network program will be able to trace the development of each learner, parents will monitor their children even though their far from them. The process will allow teachers to evaluate students progress where they can from, where they are now and where they are going.
With Tanzania Intellectual network apps teachers and parents who are staff can daily login with their mobile phones, laptops and iPads. Teachers will be allowed to view and enter progress notes of each learners while Parents will be allowed to view the progress of their own children.
Learners with intellectual impairment have certain limitations in mental functioning's and in skills such as communicating, taking care of themselves and social skills. these limitations can cause a child to learn and develop more slowly than a typical child. These children are likely to have trouble learning in school, they will learn but it will take them longer time and there may be some things they cannot learn.
Learners with intellectual impairment do no get attention they need to assist them getting the same education as other children get. These children need to be given more attention in every aspect as education, health and socialization. As not paying attention to them can leads to serious health, mental and behavioral problems. These problems are like spread of bad habit and weaken of their body.
Through Tanzania Intellectual networking program, services providers of these children including parents, guardians and teachers will be gathered to trace development of their children. The services will give them opportunity to monitor their children's progress so that they will be able to identify the positive and negative changes of their children more quickly, again the approach will help the teacher of these children to understand the dynamics and development of children at home.
OSNET is the voice for people with disabilities in Tanzania, is an organization made up of special education teachers as well as people with special needs. Since 2014 we have been working hard to ensure that children with disabilities get their rights including quality education like other children.
OSNET provides services in collaboration with various special education stakeholders including parents and guardians of children with disabilities, teachers, members of different organizations concerning people with disabilities as well as communities around us.
On 2020 OSNET participated in the implementation of TherapGlobal in Tanzania. where by up to now OSNET serves 200 students with disabilities through therapglobal. Therefore, due to the needs and uniqueness of children with intellectual impairment we need to plant the technology which will focus attention of parents and teachers for the benefits of these children.
- Facilitate meaningful social-emotional learning among underserved young people.
- Pilot
OSNET is small organization encounter kinds of barriers during implementation of it's project. Organization involved in launched of the application known TherapGlobal in Tanzania, where all information concerning learners with disabilities are daily recorded. The application is very wider and the demands of learners with intellectual impairments increasing.
currently OSNET needs to launch similar application which will mainly focus with intellectual impairment learners. In order to fulfill this goal we need legal and technological support from Solve. Providing with this support we will be able to implement our solution to the challenges students with disabilities encounter.
We need to have an application which is accessible in androids and software applications an application which is easy to document data, have a accurate data and through it government may get data from it.
- Technology (e.g. software or hardware, web development/design, data analysis, etc.)
TherapGlobal was introduced for electronic documentation for all learners with disabilities. Techers were given chances to record their students progress and send the report to parents. Disabilities is a very broader concept it includes all kinds of disabilities. Among this group there are learners who are very special with their learning needs and attention. Learners with Intellectual impairment have much difficulties in learning process compare with learners with deafness or blindness.
By looking for their needs Osnet come up with idea of improving the TherapGlobal program for the purpose of helping learners with Intellectual impairment to achieve their quality education.
Tanzania Intellectual network program with IEP will shows three developmental stages for these learners, there physical's abilities, health situations and vocational trainings.
Tanzania Intellectual network program is very much improved from the TherapGlobal. It's a network that will simplify how to track learner's progress in ensuring they receive a quality education. the network will use the latest technology and ensure every teacher and parents can access it in their mobile phones.
This program will bring parents and teachers together, teachers will be able to trace learners development during holidays and the program will remained parents about the daily needs of their children and they should put records of their children daily. For a child to have quality education efforts of both teachers and parents are needed. In this way we will be able to trace development of each children.
SHORT TERM IMPACTS
- Parents involvement in the education development of their children.
Enabling parents to report their children's progress at home during the holidays will bring parents closer to their children. The responsibility of helping the child to get a quality education is not only the responsibility of the teacher but also the responsibility of the parent.
2. Mental and Physical development of individual child.
By examining the development of individual children, teachers and parents will be able to identify where a child have problems and where he/she needs most help. Service providers will ensure each child get what they need to fill the gaps of their development.
LONG TERM IMPACT
1. A large percentage of children with intellectual impairment enrolled to school at their early age.
A large percentage of children with intellectual impairment are late to be enrolled to school this is due to fear parents have for safety of their children and prejudice about disabilities. through TINP parents of children with intellectual impairment will become good speakers for their children's conditions. There fore parents who hide their children at home because of fear and wrong path they will be persuaded to enroll their children in school early.
2. Quality education for learners with intellectual impairment.
At the end we seek to have quality and inclusive education for learners, education which will focus on the full and effective participation, accessibility, attendance and achievement of all learners.
1. Number of service providers using the application.
Having the large number of teachers and parents using application to record the progress of their children shows how big the application is applicable, During the implementation of TherapGlobal program we trace the inclusion of parent in the development of their children by looking to the number of parents demands for the report of their children.
2. Number of learners with intellectual impairment registered in TINP.
We trace the number of enrolled learners in every year by looking to the number of learners registered in TINP. what we need is to make sure children with disabilities are enrolled at their early age, TINP with IEP we give us a way to see where we are heading.
3. Rate of daily Data records of each learners.
high rate of data record for each children shows the active of each service provider. Parents and teachers putting records of learners defines the active participation for both of them. And by this we are sure these parents will share their experience with others.
4. New parents registered in TINP.
After getting the experiences from TINP experienced parents, other parents who have children with same disabilities joined the application and enrolled their children.
5. Number of learns move to the next stage of learning development over a year.
The program will include three stages of development for a child with intellectual impairment, where by in this area movement of child will be recorded daily. having the large number of learners to move on next stage will determine the child mental development.
Parent are very busy with their work they even couldn't get time for their children, they exclude themselves in their children development. But now days people use their mobile phones not only for communication but also in buying and selling.
OSNET will introduce the mobile app accessible through the link where parent and teachers will be able to trace and record the development of a child. The app will allow parents who are very busy with work to trace their children development online.
Mobile application many people referred as an app, is a software designed to run on a mobile device such as smartphone or tablet. These apps re divided into two broader categories which are native apps and web apps.
Our TINP is a web app where by only those provided with web page can access it. The app is for learners with intellectual impairment only parents and teachers will be given web page to access it.
