S.P.E.A.K
From our field understanding and research working closely with thousands of children intensely for over a year in Delhi-NCR, the following points of consideration need to be prioritized:
Mental Health Literacy
- Lack of awareness
- Lack of acceptance
- Lack of access
• Children have no prior knowledge about emotions and feelings
• The prevailing myths and taboos regarding mental health led to misinformation, posing as a hurdle for the advancement of knowledge.
• Existing social stigmas and cultural norms make children feel out of place.
• Absence of community platforms for children to inquire about mental health-related discomforts and disorders.
• Lack of trained and informed personnel who could be approached when in need.
For the above mentioned problem, You’re Wonderful Project ; launched its pilot program for schools in Delhi NCR, S.P.E.A.K. - School Program for Emotional Acceptance and Knowledge. The focus of the program is to start a discussion amongst school children about mental health and its significance, enabling the students to better understand and support themselves as well as their peers. The campaign includes conducting various workshops in which the following themes will be covered:
● Understanding how to optimize and maintain good mental health
● Understanding mental disorders and their treatments,
● Decreasing stigma, and
● Increasing health-seeking efficacy.
For monitoring, baseline assessment will be carried out and will be followed by a concurrent measurement approach to estimate the delivery of activities and subsequent fulfilment of desired outcomes and end goals. The data generated will be reviewed by program leadership and the data teams on a real-time basis to facilitate continuous improvements.
With this campaign, You're Wonderful Project; aims to reach out to more than 5 schools across the city, enabling conversations around mental health amongst more than 7,500 students, teachers and parents, as an extension.
