Millions of Nigerian students in rural and remote areas remain underserved in the field of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). despite efforts by government and non-governmental agencies to make basic education accessible to all. This is because many schools in underserved communities do not have laboratories and access to internet services that are needed for teaching STEM courses. Even where laboratories are available, there is no equipment/apparatus for carrying out experiments, neither are chemicals and reagents readily available for students’ use. Thus, teachers are forced to entirely leave out conducting required experiments, thereby making students graduate from high school without receiving adequate training in STEM subjects. KIOSTEM CLOUD LEARNING INITIATIVE provides online/offline mobile virtual laboratories for teachers and students, in Chemistry, Physics, Robotics, Electronics, Biology, and Mathematics. Our solution has more than 400 different online/offline mobile virtual laboratories experiments.
Even in the absence of physical laboratories, KIOSTEM CLOUD LEARNING INITIATIVE gives students in underserved rural areas the unique opportunity to perform practical tasks in STEM subjects, using internet-enabled devices. With the help of such devices, teachers can easily share links to recommended readings of practical sessions with their students in advance, along with necessary tutorials and instructions using KIOSTEM CLOUD LEARNING INITIATIVE learning management system (LMS). While some experiments are strictly possible with internet access, there are many others that students can perform offline, at their own pace and convenience. To ensure that experimental sessions are interactive, teachers would include classroom activities such as quizzes and discussions
Submission of completed experiments by students is done online. To enable students to do this, selected schools in rural communities in the South-South and North-West regions of Nigeria would be provided with internet services, using VSAT technology. KIO STEMCADEMY LIMITED is already in collaboration with an internet service provider company in Nigeria that would facilitate this. Teachers would thereafter be able to evaluate and follow up on the students’ progress using KIOSTEM CLOUD LEARNING INITIATIVE learning management system (LMS).
KIOSTEM CLOUD LEARNING INITIATIVE is designed in such a way that even persons with limited ICT skills can easily navigate and use the platform.
