The effect of air pollution is alarming. Around 91% of the world's population lives in places where air quality levels exceed WHO limits. Ambient air pollution, account for an estimated 4.2 million death per year due to stroke, heart disease, lung cancer, and chronic respiratory disease. Air pollution may be linked to an increase in COVID-19 severity and lethality through its impact on chronic diseases such as cardiopulmonary diseases and diabetes. Experimental studies have shown that exposure to air pollution leads to a decreased immune response, thus facilitating viral penetration and replication.
Substantial, evidence suggests that quality masks are highly effective against air pollution and in environments with a high risk of exposure to harmful airborne infections, such as shared, public places like grocery stores, construction sites e.t.c Air pollution and coronavirus have affected day to day life and is slowing down the global economy. The pandemic has affected millions of people, who are either sick or died due to the spread. Masks are effective in slowing and preventing the spread of covid19, but not all of us have adopted the preventive measure. Some masks are ill-fitting, uncomfortable, not breathable, and the most effective nose masks are often unavailable or expensive, and this is what motivated us to design a unique, efficient, affordable, and eco-friendly nose mask that is the first of its kind known as SMART WMX2 (Smart EMX).
Our rigorous solution is a great remedy touching the problems of air pollution and curbing the spread of covid19, which solutions include; preventing individuals from related air pollution, making recognition of infectious person early and easily, controlling the individual unconscious habit of touching their face, and providing ultimate comfortability of the mask when worn.
This arising effect of air pollution and the high spread rate of coronavirus ignites the idea of designing a device that will be more comfortable and effective, it will give a light indicator notification when the temperature of the person wearing it is above 37.5, and it will also control the act of touching the face.
We plan to make the product affordable, eco-friendly, effective, scalable, and last long. The concepts for the unique design are 1. Prevent one from air pollution disease. 2. To help prevent Hypoxia (inability to get enough oxygen) and control the buildup of exhaled heat which most masks do. 3. Help easy detection of a covid19 patient, since fever is of the symptom which increases one's temperature. 4. To warn individuals of washing their hands before touching their faces.
Smart EMX is targeted at solving problems dealing with air pollution. We have connected with various markets such as the mining/construction industry, chemical industry, hospital, fire, and emergency services. The use of our nose masks would not be limited to these sectors alone, as the Coronavirus has created a demand for nose masks globally.
We have done more research, successful surveys, and also conducted some successful tests. We have devoted time and put the best of our expertise to get the product to this stage.
We have organized effective cost structures, which are the Cost of production of our product(Smart EMX mask) and also the development of the mobile application, run time cost, and advert placement. Creating awareness of our product to the public is very important. We intend to promote more awareness of our product on various social media and marketing platforms.
We are actually in the third prototyping stage, and soon our product would enter the market.
The fund we seek would go into manufacturing the Smart mask on a better and large scale. We will also use the money to create awareness, create a website, company email address, and other necessary things.
We are proficient, focused, and work with team spirit in all we do, and this has successfully made us achieve some milestones. We are a few Smart minds running the company for now and planning to recruit more Smart minds and skilled individuals soon. Smart wmx2 is a reusable smart mask with unique features that provide ultimate comfortability of breathing in purified air, control the act of touching the face, and indicate when one temperature is above its normal. It is designed with cutting-edge and safe technology. It has a fan that sucks in a sufficient amount of air that passes through the n-95 filter type soaked with d-limonene(very efficient) and controls the exhaled build-up air during respiration. It also has two sensors embedded in it a proximity sensor that beams a sound when one hand gets closer to the face and a temperature sensor that indicates a red light when one temperature is above 38 degrees Celcius. It will help ease the search of an infectious person since fever is a symptom. It comes with a pack that uses UV light to sanitize the mask and store charge using a solar cell on the pack. This ensures that the mask is always active when needed. The App for communicating with the Smart mask possesses the following features for the main time: 1. It should give some information on the status and condition of the Smart Mask. Such as • The percentage of the battery and when it is needed to get charged. • A notification on when to change the filter. • A notification when the mask and the device on which the App is installed are a distance apart. At a range of 12 meters. 2. We hope to distribute numerous amounts of our product over many countries and believe that the alarming crisis of air pollution and the spread of diseases would reduce to the lowest.

JUSTIFICATION:
Air pollution is a complex mixture of gaseous and particulate constituents that vary both spatially and temporally. COVID-19-related epidemiological studies have so far investigated impacts based on particulate matter (PM) of two sizes, e.g. inhalable particles (particles with a 50% cut-off aerodynamic diameter of 10 µm (PM10)) and fine particles (particles with a 50% cut-off aerodynamic diameter of 2.5 µm (PM2.5)). It is also worthwhile mentioning here that both PM10 and PM2.5 are a proxy for ultrafine particles (diameter <0.1 µm). The size is important in determining the PM transportability and final destination within the respiratory tract or bloodstream. Depending on its source, PM can have different compositions. Carbonaceous PM from coal, fuel, or wood combustion is the most harmful and is responsible for many chronic diseases, including cardiopulmonary and metabolic diseases, neurodegenerative conditions, cancer, and low The gaseous pollutants investigated so far at the population level concerning COVID-19 and other respiratory viruses include nitrogen oxides (NOx) and ozone (O3). NO2 is a major air pollutant in urban environments, primarily arising from traffic, in particular from diesel cars, and has been associated with asthma, COPD, bronchiolitis, and cardiovascular.
Wearing a highly effective air pollution mask has been shown to help reduce the risk of exposure to PM2.5 and other airborne particulates, decreasing the chance of illness and death related to air pollution.
When you wear a single layer N95 mask (or a KN95 mask, which is the Chinese equivalent), it does protect you from that kind of exposure. Those masks do a pretty good job of filtering out the smallest particles.
When you move to the low-tech solutions—the cloth masks and bandanas, or surgical masks—these often have very little effect because the particles are so small, and they can pass right through those fibers in a surgical mask or that cloth mask. That doesn’t mean that they provide zero protection though.

DEVELOPMENT:
Smart wmx2's first design was a dual device and was later modified to its best. Smart wmx2 is a reusable smart mask with unique features that provide ultimate comfortability of breathing in purified air, control the act of touching the face, indicate when one temperature is above its normal, provide information on the wearer's health status. It has a fan that sucks in a sufficient amount of air that passes through double N99 filters and also helps to control the exhaled build-up air during respiration. It also has sensors embedded in it; a proximity sensor that beams a sound when one hand gets closer to the face, a heartbeat sensor that gives information about the wearer's heartbeat, and a temperature sensor that indicates with a red light when one temperature is above 38 degrees Celsius, it will help ease the search of an infectious person since fever is of a symptom. It comes with a pack that uses UV light to sanitize the mask and also store charge using a solar cell on it and from electricity, which ensures that the mask is active when needed. As we stay focused on fighting air pollution and coronavirus, we are ready to partner with big companies to save lives with our present innovations coming.
METHOD USED FOR ITS REALIZATION:
As the pandemic gets tough, the shortage of masks and respirators was reported globally. It is imperative to act towards it with an affordable, scalable and effective solution. We exploit our survey and analysis research which we found very essential. Our solution was shared on Facebook, WhatsApp, and Twitter with open feedback and comments. We were able to discuss our design with 3D Africa, the youth for Technology foundation, 3D Hubs, and other associations. The feedback and comments will receive were tremendously encouraging and inspiring, stating that our solution will be of great benefit to slow down the spread of the Coronavirus and in other outbreaks and sectors.
For instance, in Nigeria over 70% of persons use PPE (MASK) because it was made mandatory. This can easily be supervised compared to other preventive technical.
The result from the interview we carried out states" I don't think cloth made masks are effective. I don't breathe normally and always pull off the mask to get fresh air doing so led me to touch my face unknowingly"
We strongly believe our solution will address these problems.
RESULT:
By using safe technology and materials which is efficient, affordable, and eco-friendly. We are proud to have found a solution to the big problem of the world. The smart mask (smart Emx) has been tested to be efficient and comfortable as the target of our design.
Tests were carried out and the observation was wonderfully outstanding to filter about 0.1macron to 0.3macron particles. It was also observed to be comfortable and give a better and unique result of checking one's health status. Our next modifications would be to minimize the weight to the very best. We have received positive praise from our survey, and it has won awards and recognition for its uniqueness and efficiency. Smart wmx2 will help prevent air pollution, and also can be used in a hazardous sectors.
CONCLUSION:
In conclusion, exposure to air pollution especially NO2 and PM2.5 may increase the susceptibility to infection and mortality from COVID-19. The available data also indicate that exposure to air pollution may influence COVID-19 transmission. Moreover, air pollution can cause adverse effects on the prognosis of patients affected by SARS-CoV-2 infection.
A similar trend has also been observed in the Czech Republic where a higher number of people have been diagnosed with COVID-19 in intensely polluted areas of Prague. Furthermore, a nationwide study in the USA demonstrated a significant association between long-term exposure to PM2.5 and the risk of death from COVID. This study showed that an increase of only 1 μg/m3 in PM2.5 exposure is associated with an 8% increase in the COVID-19 fatality rate and long-term exposure to air pollution largely increases the COVID-19 mortality rate
Besides, air pollutants, a positive correlation was also observed for the faster spread of COVID-19 with low temperature, lung cancer prevalence, smoking, low vitamin D levels, and UV index Therefore, besides the plausible mechanisms of airborne transmission, other transmission routes of the virus in humans need to be considered while interpreting the impact of air quality on the virus spread. It is also important to mention that findings from the recent studies are not new to highlight the substantial link between levels of air pollution and deaths from viral diseases. A previous study showed that patients affected by SARS, a virus similar to COVID-19, were about 84% more likely to die if they lived in a highly polluted area over time). Most of the available data indicate that COVID-19 infections and fatality rates are more frequent in highly polluted regions than elsewhere. maintaining air quality may be an important and effective approach to preventing COVID-19 transmission.

The functionality is unique and accurate with the focus to reduce the harm of air pollution on us, likewise the spread of Covid19, and to stop the reason for not wearing a mask. Smart mwx2 has a fan that provides a sufficient amount that is suitable for everyone passing through some filters soaked in limonene and dry which serves as antimicrobial and anxiety-reliever. This will filter the air one breathes from viruses and impurities of even the smallest sizes. And will also control the temperature of the buildup exhale air. The mask also has two sensors embedded in it, a temperature sensor that indicates with a light when the temperature of the person wearing it is above 38 degrees Celsius(104 degrees Fahrenheit), and a sensor that beams sound when the hand gets closer to the face. It comes with a pack that has a solar cell that provides a 24/7 source of energy to the mask and also sanitizes the mask. The app is designed to communicate with the mask by sending a signal through Bluetooth. it gives information about the status of the person wearing it. The brain of the mask is a microcontroller and it has a lithium battery of 8,900mah that will serve for 7hours on a full charge.
