Sound Health
The US health system loses more than $290B to non-adherence and 125,000 deaths yearly. non-adherence causes an increased risk of hospital readmissions, emergency admissions, and associated costs. In addition, there are health conditions that are going to be a challenge to our health care system with the growing aging population. Between 2020 and 2030, the number of adults aged 65 and older is projected to increase by almost 18 million. By 2030, 1 in 5 Americans is projected to be aged 65 and older. Alzheimer's for example is tripling in the next 40years, and approximately 60,000 Americans are going to be diagnosed with PD each year. Through these statistics, we see a clear need to focus on value-based care and health data analytics.
Our solution is designed to address the quadruple aim of healthcare (1) improving the patient experience, (2) improving overall population health, (3) reducing overall costs while (4) supporting clinical experience to prevent the reported burnout.
For health providers who seek to monitor patient adherence, Sound Health by Point Motion is an interactive digital health platform that collects data on patient engagement and performance towards goals. Unlike traditional health videos, our content is powered by motion capture technology that is centered in patient physical interaction and real-time tracking of motor and cognitive functions.
We applied the benefit of music on regaining, improving, and maintaining physical and cognitive functions: movements performed by patients are translated to musical sounds that serve as a reward for the patient. The cause-effect mechanism allows for higher patient engagement and adherence.
Physical therapists and Occupational Therapists assign specific care plans for their patients and track their performance over time from anywhere through the cloud while data is collected automatically. Our platform does not require any handheld or wearables and is instantly accessed worldwide. This makes healthcare resources remotely accessible and objectively reproducible while acting on the importance of patient engagement, therapist empowerment, and overall wellness.
Our customers are health systems, that realize the importance of Health data analytics. Non-adherent patients lead to higher costs for health systems as it increases emergency admissions, hospital readmissions, and overall costs. Having a platform that provides patient data allows health systems to develop proactive care models by being able to predict the number of therapists needed, cost of hospital readmissions, overall population needs, and more.
Our solution serves end-users with neurodegenerative conditions: Parkinson's disease, Alzheimer's, Dementia... in a timely, effective, safe way. Decreasing the time of travel for this population to see a doctor in person, or relying on caregiver subjective reporting is the current way to report performance over time. We believe in a world where our seniors can access interactive music-movement-based experiences that collect data for their doctors and help them get proactive care. Our solution is accessible as it doesn't require any additional wearables or devices: it is accessed anywhere in the world from a camera-enabled device i.e. laptop, tablet, phone.
My team and I are very customer-centric. I am certified in design thinking from Stanford Graduate School of Business. My team shares the same passion from human-centered design, iterative design, and agile development.
Initially, we started this after a family member had a spinal cord injury that left him paralyzed. We saw that his adherence to therapy wasn't consistent, that he lied to his doctors about exercising at home, and that was because of his physical and psychological deterioration that his doctor couldn't monitor remotely. When we looked at populations in need we found lots of chronic diseases related to movement/ motor functions as well as cognitive functions, within the most growing population: aging population, and needed to do something about it.
I serve as the first millennial on Novant Health Board, and I have a particular interest in providing technological solutions that bridge the gap between care and access to care. We are also part of their innovation lab where we get to shadow therapists, learn more about seniors' challenges and test our solutions.
- Identify, monitor, and reduce bias in healthcare systems, including in medical research and at the point of care

I have been part of many MIT events and entities, starting with hackathons in the MIT Media Lab (Reality Virtually, Awarded Collaborative Leader Prize in 2018), Hack for Inclusion at MIT Sloan, etc. And I don't doubt the support we can get once selected as a Solver. The most urgent need, for now, is Regulatory, as we aim to apply for FDA approval to become a medical device, as well as business development and continuing to refine our strategy and sales cycle (CAC and CLV as well).
- Business model (e.g. product-market fit, strategy & development)
For decades we noticed, researched, and validated the power of music on humans physiologically, psychologically, and behaviorally, as well as the importance of movement for humans. We combined music and movement to create engaging therapeutic activities for neurodegenerative populations: The movement of their bodies creates sounds. Through markerless motion capture software and AI and using any enabled camera device (i.e. laptop, tablet, phone) they access engaging musical therapeutic experiences that are monitored by their therapists even remotely through dashboards and data analytics. The automatic data collection on patient performance over time allows for objective data collection through remote patient monitoring.
This helps patients access care without buying any additional wearable devices, therapists can access patients' data remotely, reducing the cost of care and improving the quality of care.
In the next year, we will focus on iterating our solution alongside 6 Championing Health Systems. Through mentorship, and opportunities to shadow therapy leaders within both clinical and administrative positions we aim to reach product-market fit while calculating the value added to health systems through the utilization of our solution.
Reaching 6 Champions will allow us to reach our product milestone, while also aligning our KPIs to raise our Series A round in Q1 2023. As such, the funds raised will be used to expand our content library and complete FDA regulatory process which we already have in motion identifying product codes and potential reimbursement value.
In 5 years we aim to have a thriving ecosystem of content and accessible integrated tracking and rewards tools that result in the highest levels of patient adherence and engagement with their health plan. We aim to serve over 100,000 patients and further our research on a patented process to utilize Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence to conduct assistive diagnoses. This will allow anyone in the world with a neurodegenerative condition to be monitored and proactively supported if they reach a higher rate of risk according to their performance changes over time.
Measurements which to us indicate our progress towards impact goals are as follows:
- Adherence Rate (Targeting 30 minutes session, Atleast 16 of 30 days per month)
- # of Care Plans Setup by Providers
- Time Spent by Providers Reviewing Reports
- Miles of travel saved for patient or provider
- Rete of readmissions
- Rate of emergency hospitalization
- Reduce the number of global deaths and injuries from road traffic accidents
- Strengthen the capacity of all countries, in particular developing countries, for early warning, risk reduction and management of national and global health risks
Our theory of change connects to a deep shift within Healthcare policy: Value-Based Care Models.
Currently in the US, most health systems work with payers through Fee for Service based care models. While research has shown that healthcare costs are lower, and quality of care becomes higher when implemented properly, there is slow adoption due to the requirements for data reporting for therapists.
With the introduction of an accessible tool for patients which can be engaging and rewarding while collecting relevant physical and cognitive performance levels, doctors will be able to utilize codes available that rely on these metrics.
As a result, we can expect to see additional codes around value based care released. With the barrier for realizing that value reduced by simply giving a login to your patient to access from anywhere, more data will become available demonstrating the Value Based Care Model's benefits; making an important transformational shift in how we deliver healthcare.
We use Machine Learning, and Artificial Intelligence to leverage computer vision to create a solution that can be widely accessed using technology many people in the world already have.
While others choose to use hardware devices, we believe that the metrics providers need to track do not require a resolution higher than what can be achieved in trained computer vision models. In such, we can improve healthcare application productivity as setting up wearables or specialized devices can leave room for error and time waste.
We also utilize Big Data visualization and developed processes for analyzing interactions to compare patient population performance. In such, we will be able to further train and utilize our data to support providers through predictive diagnosis. An example of this would be to compare a patient newly diagnosed with Parkinson's to other data sets with similar characteristics. As the patient continues to adhere to and engage in therapy, data can be compared across populations to identify a rate of degeneration.

Point Motion operates through a B2B SaaS model. Health Systems being our key customers, purchase Sound Health to empower their providers serving populations with neurodegenerative conditions which in turn benefit patients themselves.
Working with specialists in telehealth and remote care reimbursement, we have identified CMS professional coding which allows Therapists to reimburse up to ~$80/month using our technology in sessions, as well as remotely. In such, our early adopters have been willing to pay $30/month/user as well as an annual onboarding and training fee.
Alongside access to our SoundHealth and specialized training to tailor fit coding and workflows based on the digital maturity of the health system, health systems also have the option to purchase specialized reports which offer great insight into population health, patient engagement, and overall efficiency.

Our business model is projected to be cashflow positive after reaching 500 users, which we project can be accomplished within our first 6 championed health systems.
We also look to compete for grants which can support our research and development, particularly to cover expensive costs for FDA submissions and related studies.
Up until now, Point Motion has depended heavily on funding raised through angel investment however look to conduct a series A round spring 2023 through Venture Capital.
We have received the Venture Winston Grant recently which is also championed by Novant Health. Through this grant we received $50,000 as well as mentorship from various levels of stakeholders at Novant Health.
We have also been a part of the WinstonStarts incubator which gives us access to affordable space and mentorship which help align our long-term vision for sustainability.
There have been a number of medical device specialized companies which would like to sell our product into their network of clinics and health systems. In such, upon reaching product-market fit we believe the product can be taken to the masses by establishing vendor networks.
